Votan's Adaptive (Video-)Settings  Popular! (More than 5000 hits)
Version: 1.5.7
by: votan [More]
DependenciesDescription
This add-on adjusts the view- and particle distance to the current graphic load and context (normal, combat, UI hidden) to stabilize the framerate. If the view distance drops and drops, additional effects get disabled:
Distorsion, god rays and antialiasing. In this order.

And if the framerate raises again, e.g. because you left the crowded city, the view distance increases again. This way you can choose between quality and performance: Smooth fps in combat and best graphics otherwise.

Since 1.3.0: If you travel or use a door, the view distance is set back to the average between minimum and maximum. This is because:
  • You may leave a low GPU load zone and enter a heavy GPU load zone and do not hit a GPU burst wall.
  • You may leave a heavy GPU load zone and enter a low GPU load zone and would see the "nothing" where the opposite wall should be.

This add-on works with Shissu's PvP/Game Booster. The difference is:
  • Shissu's PvP/Game Booster is more effective, but also regonizable and active during combat/on demand only.
  • This add-on is less effective than Shissu's PvP/Game Booster, but more subtile and operates all the time.

If you want to see the add-on's activities, enable framerate performance indicator (/fps)

A "Thank You" to @dorrino and @Cabum for their feedback.

Remarks
  • Be fair to the system: If you use (adaptive) v-sync, like I do, keep the minimum framerate a few frames below limit (<60).
Otherwise the add-on can not detect under-load.
  • As higher your target framerate, as slower the view distance will increase again.

If you feel dissatisfied with the second main menu entry for "Addons", take a look at Harven's AS to LAM adapter.

Important!
If your view distance drops and keeps at minimum (your Minimum View Distance) you may have a problem with an add-on or need a new machine .

If in doubt, just don't use the add-on and you will see.

Beschreibung

AS to LAM adapter an.

Wichtig!
Wenn die Sichtweite auf Minimum (15) fällt und dort bleibt, besteht entweder ein Problem mit einem Addon oder Du brauchst ein neuen Rechner .
Im Zweifel, verwende das Addon einfach nicht und Du wirst sehen.

To Do
- Option to change view distance only. Keep particle distance untouched.

Gallery
All sceenshots made at 2560x1440 (WQHD) with "Supreme" texture quality.

Not the best moment to seek for the screenshot key, but hey 60fps

Just registered, to say: Thank you!
What a freaking amazing add-on. It was installed and the effect was immediately present and stunning.
Super smooth performance and non-noticeable adjusting of the graphics setting.
My system i7-6700k (stock), GTX 1070 (oc) and 32 GB RAM.
Again: Thank you!

Just wanted to say that this is probably the most essential add-on ever. I have no idea why it's not THE most dowloaded one on ESOUI.

My specs are i7-2600k, Gigabyte GTX 1060 WF2 6GB VRAM, 32 GB RAM and ESO is installed on a SSD. Without the add-on the game was in a constant state of "micro stutters" (on the other hand Fallout 4 on ultra specs with some grafic mods or Witcher 3 on highest settings run just fine...).

Since using Votan's Adaptive Settings the game runs absolutely smooth. I don't even notice the graphical changes in cities or combat.

I can also no more feel bad for those "PvP sucks because lag"-posts in the forum, cause this seems to be just a graphics issue. Even in Cyro i don't have any problems any more (i'm not sure if this is really the add-on making my PVP awesome. But hey, i'm happy )

TL;DR:
Awesome work, thank you!

@Cannablstr Delete that LibVotansAddonList folder. This lib is no longer bundled. That error is from an older version.

LAM2 Warning

[01:02] [LAM2] Setting a handler on a panel is not recommended. Use the global callback 'LAM-PanelControlsCreated' or 'LAM-PanelOpened' instead. (OnShow on Votan's Adaptive Settings)
Just noticed this in my chat box tonight. Also getting exact same message for Votan's Search Box and Votan's Minimap. Which addon is warning about which addon?

I believe it pops when I click Settings > Addons. I used to see another Addons entry, with just those three Votan addons, but don't anymore.

What is your "in-combat" minimum framerate? Set it to 55.
And what is your minimum view distance? Set it to 12 or even 7.
Do you allow to disable/touch "Distorsion"?

Maybe this helps or not: Google for "sg tcp optimizer". An app from speedguide.net
Read the FAQ for gaming.

Good luck.

Hello, please add the ability to display the view distance without reference to fps. Or add the ability to display the view distance along with latency.
And thanks for your mod.

Amazing...

This addon is a godsend, and the level of control you provide is flawless.

In a game like ESO which struggles with CPU bottlenecks even on cutting edge chips due to game engine limitations, having the most impactful CPU-related settings adjusted automatically to suit the situation is a dream come true. You can get as close as possible to the best of both worlds: Amazing distant views when target FPS allows and smooth gameplay when it matters most (like during combat when you probably aren't looking wistfully off into the distance anyway).

Simply outstanding, as always.

The addon compensates the frame drop over time until your reach minimum.
try without the addon, if you don't believe.
so can not solve it?
I do not know when I go through maps (instance) I see npc (mob) but I do not see a bar from the name of npc and I do not even know where I am, so I do not know whether it is npc friendly, neutral or hostile

I have a minor problem and it seems that the problem is caused by this addon
in the default set-video setting, view distance it set to 50, but after a while this value changes to 6 and I can not know anymore

A shame really. I kinda wanna use both. :s
Enabling or disabling "/latency" causes that, even without Adaptive Settings.
This addon still detects "Info Panel" correctly (just tested) and disables any performance meter modification. They do not have a conflict.

So it's a game bug?
Cause the Author of Info Panel says it's not his Addons fault.
No. Not a game bug.
PERFORMANCE_METERS:UpdateVisibility() does what is has to do. Info Panel does not change its behavior. So it re-arranges the controls has if Info Panel would not be installed.
How to fix it then?
Cause it worked fine before Wolfhunter. Something must have changed..
I made a bit of digging...

If I force your function for InfoPanel SetupMeterWithInfoPanel(), the view distance is never displayed in InfoPanel.

If I force your default function SetupMeter(), but with InfoPanel loaded, I do get the spacing bug.

My conclusion is :
- if self.InfoPanelLoaded is returning false even with InfoPanel loaded, which sound strange as it's the correct name you check out in the plugin list.
- Your plugin use the default injector as it don't detect InfoPanel
- Your code for InfoPanel have an issue as when activated, it shows nothing into the panel.

I hope it helped a bit. I'm not a LUA big fan neither I do know a lot about ESO API but I did a few test anyway.
