Price Tracker  Popular! (More than 5000 hits)
Version: 2.4
by: Barvazon [More]
General Info

Price Tracker is a simple addon that scans all your guild banks and tracks items and their prices. It then calculates and shows a suggested price in the item tooltip, as well as the minimum and maximum prices and the number of times the item was seen in the stores.

The suggested price can be calculated in several ways (which can be selected in the settings menu):
  • Weighted average: The average price of all items, with stack sizes taken into account. For example, a stack of 10 items will be counted 10 times when calculating the average price.
  • Median price: The price value for which half of the items cost more and half cost less.
  • Most popular price: The most common price value.[/color]

How to Use

Initially, all the guild stores have to be inspected in order for the addon to work properly. Simply go to a banker, open the Guild Store menu and click on the 'Scan Prices' button on the left-hand side. This will take a while, depending on how many guild stores are available, and how many items are listed in each guild store. During the scanning process, the 'Scan Prices' button will be disabled. It will be reenabled once all the guild stores have been scanned.

After that, simply select an item in your bag, and if the item is listed in a guild store, it will show the suggested price.

Updating Prices

Occasionally, click on the 'Scan Prices' button again to update the price list with newly listed items.

Database Update

Notice that starting v1.7 changes the way items are indexed and retrieved. From now on, instead of using the item name, Price Tracker uses the item ID, which is a lot more accurate. It also accounts for the item's level when comparing prices. For example, Leather Boots of Stamina can come in level 15, 35 or 50. When comparing prices, only items that match the level of the selected Leather Boots of Stamina will be taken into account.

Having said that, I am aware that, for some reason, certain items come in more than one level, where that does not seem to make any sense. Recipes, ingredients, and certain items will report to have different levels, even though no discernible difference can be found. I do not know why that is the case. Only ZO can answer that question.

Lastly, as a result of this change, all saved items will be dropped, and a new database will be created. Please do not forget to click on the 'Scan Items' button to rescan the stores.

Thanks for letting me now. It's a feature I've never used. I'll add it to my todo list.

Currently, it only uses current prices. I would like to add sales data too, and give it a higher priority, as it is more accurate, but I haven't had the time to add this features yet.
Thanks for the response.

[Idea] Show total items in store

I have a small idea. Sometimes it's very interesting to know how many items are listed in a guild store in total, for example when you are trying to decide on which guild trader to bid and how much, or when you want to check how many items are listed in your trading guild.

Your addon should know this after doing Scan Prices anyway, could you pop this info into the chat? It could be in the form of a success message: "Guild store XY successfully scanned. PriceTracker found a total of YZ items."

Keep up the great work, it's a great addon!

Missing prices

I just noticed I am missing prices on several items that I once had numerous scans for, such as Baker's Flour and Crawlers, as well as others. Could this be the result of increasing my .lua memory causing these memory leaks I keep reading about? I'm not sure if deactivating price tracker had anything to do with it either but I do know this happened after I turned it off and then back on again.

Re: Possible addon idea?

At this point I do not plan on connecting this addon to an online database. It would take too much of my non existent time to maintain it. Sorry.

Possible addon idea?

Is there any way you could create something that would allow us to upload our prices onto a master database somehow? Since I would really like to see prices on things that I can't get enough scans on and wouldn't want to have to keep starting over all the time because not only will I lose scans on less frequently seen items but it looks like I might have to delete my .lua file every two weeks or so even with my .lua memory set to 128.

There is a World of Warcraft addon found on Wowuction.com which collected data from players' auction house scans (I think) and then all you would do is update it each day to get the latest prices from the site's master database. Something like this could bypass the .lua limitation problem as well as give far more accurate prices which then could be seen on our item's tooltips.

Edit: I didn't realize when posting this that something like this was already attempted before.

In order to reset saved data type the following command to the chat:
/pt reset

I must admit, I haven't experimented much with guild traders yet. I will get to it, but it may take a few weeks.

Suggestion Request

With the new vendors can bid on for your Guild's Store I think it would be nice to be able to store all guilds info by scanning guilds that I'm not in by visiting their vendor and scanning their data.

I agree, various consumables share the same properties. However, there is no guarantee that they will continue to share those properties, nor is there a way to automatically link between those items, other than going over every item and checking if the properties match. At this point I am not planning to do so, since those do constitute separate, unrelated items. Sorry.
