AlphaGear 2  Updated less than 3 days ago!  Popular! (More than 5000 hits)
Version: 6.4.0 beta1
by: mesota [More]
Anything you need to manage your skills and gear.

I've adopted this great AddOn from AlphaLemming and changed the name to "AlphaGear 2" for the version that I maintain.

AlphaGear 2 lets you create up to 16 builds that may be activated with a single button press. Each build consists of
  • 7 pieces of armor
  • 3 pieces of jewelry
  • 2 weapon bars including poison
  • 2 skill bars
  • 1 outfit

Use cases
  • Switch between different roles
  • Switch between PvE and PvP environment
  • Create two (or more) builds with the same equipment, but different skill bars to create situational skill setups (solo, group, etc...)

New and noteworthy in 6.4.0
  • ESO 4.1 (Wolfhunter)
  • For more information see change log

How To...
  • Open the AlphaGear main window
    • Execute "/alphagear"

Known Issues
  • Updating a version prior 6.x with minion doesn't seem to work. Workaround: Delete the .../AddOns/AlphaGear directory and reinstall AlphaGear 2. Don't delete anything from .../SavedVariables. AlphaGear 2 will reuse your already created sets.

Credit goes to...
  • Marify for Japanese translation
  • adrienmoorea for French translation
  • Hoft for Russian translation
  • Snow and many others for valuable feedback
  • UESP for the list of skill ids prior to Summerset

Found a Bug? Missing Feature?
Just post a comment. I'll add (almost) any request to the wish list.

AlphaGear 2 Version Numbers

I use the following semantics for AlpahGear 2 version numbers:
<Major>.<Minor>.<Patch> <Qualifier>

Major: Always "6" for the branch that I maintain
Minor: Increases with every new ESO version: 3.1 = "0", 3.2 = "1", 3.3 = "2", "4.0" = "3", "4.1" = "4"
Patch: Increases with every fixed bug or enhancement within a minor version.
Qualifier: Arbitrary labels like "alpha", "beta" to indicate a version which is not ready for production ;).

Wishlist
  • Arbitrary number of profiles with 16 build/gear/skill-slots each
  • Make AlphaGear icon visible only in the inventory screen
  • Auto-repair armor using repair-kits
  • Auto-repair armor in bag (not only worn)
  • Tooltips for settings
  • Slot for costume
  • Add configurable transparency for all the parts of the mod
  • Add colored icons/change icon colors individually
  • Add different icon sizes (smaller and larger than now)
  • Add means to write changes to the disk without logout (trigger /reloadui)
  • Add indicator for light, medium and heavy armor to BAG_WORN
  • Add set indicator to bank item
  • Split current-set icon into two separate icons
  • Copy/Paste for sets (like copy/paste for gear and skills)
  • Better integration for gamepad mode (skill, inventory, banking)
  • Add a one-button create-build-from-what-i'm-wearing function
  • Integration of stiles (skins, costumes, guild tabard, hat, hair style, etc.)
  • Automatically open AG window if skills window is opened

I think there is something to this - since last ESO update the setbuttons disappear when out of combat and reappear when in combat.

Edit: appearing on more and more chars :_/

Also, work in progress on the "tabs" for Alphagear / ALphagear 3 or is it now worth waiting for?

I can confirm that the unequipping is buggy. I usually put my DD gear into bank before I log out, so I press unequip once. I see: Still a weapon equipped - press again. (Sometimes still the other weap equipped - press again).

Yet, as mentioned, multiple presses of the keybind key never removes the entire set even after multiple presses.
Strange. Works for me as expected. I'll have a look into the code...

I did more testing tonight. I uninstalled the addon, deleted saved variables, and reinstalled. I did not work with skills, only armor. I saved armor and weapons, then added it to a set.

Using a keybind for "Unequip Entire Gear"- it would NEVER remove any weapons or jewelry, only armor. Even then, it typically would leave one or two pieces of armor equipped.

Using the UI icons... the Unequip Entire Gear icon typically leaves most weapons and jewelry and one or two pieces of armor. Only once out of the 20+ times I tried did it remove the entire set.

Using the Unequip Armor icon... does not always remove every piece of armor, many times leaving one or two pieces.

I also found when equipping and unequipping that it sometimes mixed up my Agility rings... it would put one ring in the wrong saved location and then say that it could not find an Agility ring. Well, it couldn't find it because it put the wrong ring in the wrong slot and then could not equip the other ring because it would put it in the wrong saved slot. This only seemed to happened when rapidly trying to unequip and equip.

It makes me wonder if the server/game itself has some sort of cooldown or 'delay' and this is what is causing these type of problems? Perhaps there are too many requests all at once to unequip/equip and it confuses the server. Just a thought.

I'm not convinced...

AG tries to swap both: equipment and skills in one "transaction". If gear is swapped and skills are not, the root cause can't be that IsUnitInCombat() returns true. If you like, have a look at line 1183 in AlphaGear.lua.

If you don't mind you could turn on tracing and provide me with some additional output. Maybe this helps nailing down the problem. Tracing is enabled in line 92 of AlphaGear.lua: just change "false" to "true".

The skills never change when I try the same or other sets using AG2 until I initiate combat and leave combat normally. I can manually drag my skills using the in-game UI. I think you hit on the solution though:

Re: Re: Re: Unable to swap skills when incorrectly *thinks* i'm in combat.

Another strange behavior, I've never seen before.

That's what AG does:
When you request to swap the build, AG checks with "IsUnitInCombat()" whether the character is in combat or not. This is ESO API and I can't influence it. If this function returns "true", the request to change the build is queued and executed as soon as you leave combat. In this case a message printed to the chat. If the function returns "false" the change is executed immediately.

As yo can see, AG itself doesn't "track" whether you in combat or not.

If gear is changed and skills are not, there might be a timing issue, that I'm not aware of. If you try to equip the same build again, does AG change the skills at the second attempt?

If the game has you recorded as "in combat", it would be impossible to have this happen: the functions required to change equipment, etc, are classified as "protected". That means that the ESO client will block any attempt by the addon to use them while in combat.

1. Open Alphagear 2 based on which UI you have open. For example, open alphagear 2 when I open my skills window.
2. Simplified set making. One click should fill in currently used gear and skill sets. (Unless I missed this!)
3. Transparency setting for the alphagear 2 UI elements.

First two are features from Dressing Room while last one is personal preference to match the rest of my UI setup.

Thank you again for this. Works great
I'll add #1 to the wish list. Not sure if I'd like AG2 to pop up every time, I open the skills window. Have to think about it.
#2 and #3 are already on the wish list.

Dressing room allows you pick which UI element the addon UI would open with; open with skills window, open with inv. window, etc. Nothing crazy just a small QoL feature for people like me who use all avail. barsets and mess with them time to time.

Another small feature I'd like is a small white border around the UI element that tells you which set you have equipped. Another indicator around the number or box would do. Or even recoloring the number box.

Love the addon; makes the game way more playable. Thank you.

For example, to build up a healing "offset" bunch of skills, it would be nice to have them get quest XP when I don't particularly want them on my bar full time.

I can use hotkeys to switch, but honestly, I'm ... not good at remembering to do that. I'm sure y'all can relate.

So, two questions:

1. Would you consider adding a feature, if possible, to make that switch automatically?
2. Is there an API that I can use to have a separate addon switch profile with AG2, so I maintain the hard parts, and just use your switching logic?
I'm not sure I understand.
You want to activate a special "leveling action bar" wich is only active while you complete a quest?
Yes, that is correct. Skills on the bar gain experience while active at quest completion, so putting things I want to level (eg: off-heal or off-tank skills) there and they will gain some experience. Skills on my "normal" bars will gain it in combat, etc.

However I have some simple feature request/feedback

One thing that would be nice to have is that while levelling up, to assign a skill set for the things I want to focus on at this time, without having to have them on my front bar -- or my back one.
