TamrielOnline Uploader (beta)
Version: 0.2
by: Ayantir [More]
TamrielOnline uploader is a tiny tool which automatically send data to TamrielOnline.net in order to build a shared space for Elder Scrolls Online knowledge.

It should be used whith TamrielOnline addon which will be released later.

It runs in background and only upload TamrielOnline.lua from your saved vars to the concerned server.
It also write a log in the application folder itself (%APPDATA%\TamrielOnline) and update a lua file in your addon folder to be correctly read by this same addon (or others).

This tool is writen in C#, installer with NSIS.
It's only released here in order to detect bugs and force myself to progress in this project too much delayed (started more than a year ago).
This tool require .NET Framework 4.5 on your computer. It is automatically installed on Vista/7/8/10. If you are on Windows XP or have any issue, try Windows Update first.

I already noticed few bugs :

You need to click twice on Exit in the taskbar to close the tool
Sometimes at boot, program crash because it cannot acccess to the Windows Mutex (Access forbidden).
Software consummes ~15Megs in ram, but after an upload, it raise to 23Megs. I guess a var isn't cleaned. I know, 15Megs is a lot, but it's C#, not C++.

Please be indulgent for other bugs, I never coded in this language before

Few 1sts Questions & Answers for a later usage :

  • Q- What do I need to run TamrielOnline Uploader ?
A- Windows Vista/7/8/10 and Microsoft .NET 4.5 ; If any error message is displayed at startup, you'll maybe need to update .NET with Windows Update.

  • Q- Does it upload while I'm playing ?
A- No, it start uploading 10s after game completly exited

  • Q- I don't want this software running in background but only doing "manual" uploads, how can I disable it from Windows ?
A- To disable TamrielOnline from startup, type "msconfig" in search bar of the Start Menu, launch the tool and go on the 4th tab (Startup). Uncheck TamrielOnline and press OK. Manual uploads will come later

  • Q- Do I need Admin privileges to run uploader ?
A- No, Uploader is executed with your user privileges, and installed only in your user account. If you share another account on this computer, software won't be installed on the other one.

  • Q- Are there any personnal data sent ?
A- For now, no personnal data is sent, in a near future, you could participate to share your build, achievements, or rank in worldwide leaderboards!

  • Q- How long upload takes , are there any logs ?
A- Upload speed is based on your internet bandwidth, for a DSL+ connection, it should not require more than 5 seconds. There is also a logfile in %APPDATA%\TamrielOnline (where the tool is installed).

  • Q- I don't have a lot of bandwith ..
A- Uploads are compressed first, and items already collected are marked for deletion after a sucessful upload, even if you grind/quest/loot a lot, file size shouldn't exceed more than 500KB for a serious player

  • Q- I have another question!
    A- Ask in esoui.com > TamrielOnline Uploader > Comments

The only one that I can think of is the UESP (Unofficial Elder Scrolls Pages) addon.
