Never miss an important message!


We all have discovered a weakness in Elder Scrolls Online... the ingame chat management.
Nearly everyone of us has missed a whisper because we were in combat or distracted by anything special.
Seconds later the chat has faded out or shifted up by messages (and spam) so we never take notice about.

This now comes to an end!
TOM - the Tamriel Online Messenger will keep your messages and set you on alert.

It doesn't matter if there is a whisper, a call from the guild or a party message that arrives... TOM will keep an eye to all channels until your return
Depending on your setup, TOM will open automatically or you will be noticed by a flashing sign if anything has happen while you was away - let TOM take the responibility not to miss anything important.

For guild masters and active guild members there are now many guild functions implemented as display status, jump to guildmember, mail to guild member and more other

Within the catacombs of TOM you may store Scrolls of your own text and post them to the chat - great for roleplay (or trade and mail)

Hint: For sure you will have to open or close TOM often in future - so i would recommend you to create a keybinding for this action (i would suggest the F12 key i.e). Guild masters would bind another key (F11) to the guild functions... and a third one for the catacombs?


What are the features?

At this time there is implemented:
- separated channel recordings (party, zone, guild)
- separated speech channel (say, yell, emote)
- separated tab for each whisper (one per person/account)
- self-prepared messages for roleplay or trade (catacombs)
- magic messages (dynamic channels with messages selected by keywords from ALL channels)
- every channel can be set to alert if a message arrives (default is whisper/party only)
- you may setup ToM to open automatically if an important message arrives
- TOM will close immediately if you are entering combat
- you may answer a channel by a simple click (answering via chat window because addons are forbidden to talk itself)
- messages will survive a UI reload or relog (even if you are disconnected by the server)
- resizeable window
- guildmaster functions now implemented within a separated guild function window
- display status, jump to guildmember, mail to guild member, whisper to guild member, dismiss guild member implemented
- all guilds separated shown in the guild functions window
- a target scanner and mail functions helps to simplify guild advertisements
- localized for german and english clients

(Someone will notice a similarity to TIM... yes, TOM is a smarter, completely re-coded version of this Pre-Orsinium Tool - enjoy)
btw.: If you was using TIM for a long time and there are thousands of scrolls within the catacombs... feel free to use the "/tom import" command to get this scrolls into TOM ;-)

Beinahe jeder von uns hat schon einmal eine wichtige Flüsternachricht verpasst, weil er gerade im Kampf oder anderweitig abgelenkt war.
Einige Sekunden später sind diese wichtigen Zeilen verschwunden oder durch Spam nach oben in die Unsichtbarkeit geschoben.

Dies hat nun ein Ende!
TOM - der Tamriel Online Messenger bewahrt Deine Nachrichten auf und wird Dich alarmieren.

Es ist egal ob eine Flüsternachricht, ein Gildenchat oder eine Gruppennachricht eintrifft, TOM hat bis zu Deiner Rückkehr ein Auge auf alle Nachrichtenkanäle.
Je nach Deiner Konfiguration wird sich TOM automatisch öffnen oder ein blinkendes Symbol zeigen, wenn während Deiner Abwesenheit etwas Wichtiges hereingekommen ist - überlasse TOM die Verantwortung, wachsam zu sein.

Gildenmeister und aktive Gildenmitglieder verfügen nunmehr über implementierte Gildenfunktionen wie Status anzeigen, Sprung zum Gildenmitglied, Guildennachricht senden, Gildenmitglied anflüstern und mehr

In den Katakomben von TOM kannst Du Deine eigenen Schriften (Nachrichten) für das Roleplay oder den Handel aufbewahren

Ein Tip: Ihr werdet sicher TOM öfters oeffnen oder schliessen wollen - legt Euch hierfür eine Schnelltaste über die Steuerungseinstellungen an - ich empfehle z.B. F12. Gildenmeister werden die Gildenfunktionen an eine weitere Taste (F11) binden wollen... und vielleicht eine dritte für die Katakomben?


Was ist bereits alles möglich?

Implementiert ist derzeit:
- Getrennte Kanäle (Gruppe, Zone, Gilde)
- Getrennte Sprachkanäle (sprechen, rufen, emotes)
- Getrennte Tabs für jedes Gespräch (einer pro Person/Account)
- selbsterstellte Nachrichten für das Roleplay oder den Handel (Katakomben)
- Magische Nachrichten (dynamische Kanäle mit Nachrichten, welche über Schlagworte aus ALLEN Kanälen ausgewählt werden)
- alle Kanäle können den Alarm bei Nachrichteneingang setzen, wenn sie so konfiguriert sind
- TOM wird sofort schliessen, wenn der Spieler in einen Kampf eintritt
- Antworten funktioniert mit einem einzigen Klick - allerdings via Chat (da AddONs keine Nachrichten senden dürfen)
- gespeicherte Nachrichten überdauern auch einen UI Reload oder gar Relog (sogar, wenn der Server die Verbindung trennt)
- Fenstergrösse einstellbar
- Gildenmeister Funktionen sind jetzt über ein eigenes Fenster implementiert
- Status anzeigen, zum Gildenmitglied reisen, Post an Gildenmitglieder senden, Gildenmitglieder anflüstern und der Gilde verweisen sind jetzt implementiert
- alle möglichen 5 Gilden sind in den Gildenfunktionen separat gehalten
- Ein Spieler-Scanner mit Mailunterstützung helfen bei der Gildenwerbung
- Lokalisierung derzeit verfügbar für deutsch und englisch


(Einige von Euch werden eine gewisse Ähnlichkeit zu TIM bemerken... ja, TOM ist die elegantere, komplett neu programmierte Version dieses Pre-Orsinium Tools - viel Spass damit)
btw.: Wenn ihr tausende von Schriftrollen in den Katakomben abgespeichert habt - versucht das Kommando "/tom import", um diese nach TOM zu bringen ;-)

It's never my intention to ask for alterations that affect everyone but benefit no one but me. If that is the case here then I will make do unless my LUA and API skill improves enough that I can make a private fork. I admit that even for me this is of minor benefit; I don't know that I will need to use it constantly. Truth be told, that Enter key suggestion would have a far greater improvement to my gameplay, so if I had to choose one as a gift it would be the latter.

The same goes for my other suggestion, though. If others don't chime in and say, "yeah, that's a great idea" then it remains to me to satisfy my peculiar need. The greater good is what matters. Yes, an American is saying that. :-)

hmmm... yes, i see that the right-click function on this special icon is dangerous a little.
I have switched the function to the leftmost one, so an unintended use does not harm anything.
You may re-download and try this out here.

I am also with you, that it would be best to have the buttons near the channel names, but implementing this within a scrolling list is nothing to do within 5 minutes.
So i see that you are not able to mute channels selectively - but i think this mute function is used rarely by most players so i would like to ask you to mute all channels together (with one right-click) or to reduce the alert level selectively within the addon setup.

Thank you for the quick implementation. I did picture the buttons as red circles with lines through them (in one state). However, adding a mute function to that particular button worries me: an unintended left-click on that same button will delete the whole channel and its stored contents! I am intending to use TOM as my own sort of social eidetic memory, and have configured it to store some dialog for an entire year; losing it to an accidental mis-click would be upsetting. There's already a possibility of that happening, of course, but giving the button a second purpose makes it much more likely.

I also had another unarticulated reason for suggesting buttons alongside the channels: it's a visual reminder of which channels are configured with an alert. I also had it in mind that the buttons themselves would change appearance in some fashion to indicate the change in state, whether muted or not; having individual buttons that change state makes it easy to see which channel alerts are muted.

My particular approach to solving it is motivated by my exceptionally poor memory and hand-eye coordination. I could offer examples, but that would be TMI. Is the dual use of that button a worry just for me because of my own limitations? Would others face the same potential accident? I know it's a much easier solution than what I proposed. I will be making cautious use of it regardless.

hmmm... yes, i see the problem and are with you.

Please download TOM version 4.0.1 from here
Within this version i have placed a do-not-disturb option... you may toggle it with a right-click onto the third icon from the lower left.
If you right-click it, TOM will no longer popup alerts until you click it again (or reload the game).

Maybe this will help - please keep me informed.

Another Suggestion Box idea that has been percolating lately is for TOM to hook the chat [Enter] key action and force it to default to posting a new message automatically to whatever channel(?) is selected or highlighted in the TOM frame. This is an evolution of the existing means of having to click the left-most button in the frame or right-click the channel itself: since either [Enter] or [.] must have already been pressed to obtain the mouse cursor and then the cursor must be navigated into the TOM frame to left- or right-click something, eliminating the mousing is a considerable time- and distraction-saver. Of course this could or should be a configurable option in case it conflicts with how some prefer to use TOM. For me, it would substantially improve my "social efficiency" in the game.

My use of TOM would benefit from having mute buttons, or some equivalent, available conveniently placed next to any saved "channels" that are configured to 3 - Alert when new posts arrive. The purpose would of course be to temporarily mute the alert activity; this is especially helpful when TOM has been configured to pop its frame when any alert is triggered. Such buttons would be present only for those channels which have alerts configured.

I have TOM configured that way, and I have alerts set for whispers, groups, and my primary guild. Today I was in a game situation where I needed full visual situational focus, and just then my guild erupted with a sustained barrage of chatter. I have the TOM frame hotkeyed, and I kept closing the window to hide the chatter, but as the chatter continued the TOM frame kept popping in response to the alert. I finally had to enter the settings and disable the guild alert for a time; that action itself was further distraction on top of the unwanted guild chatter. In nearly all situations I do in fact want to be alerted of chatter in that guild, but there are those occasions when I need to override that choice for a time.

If an alert mute button had existed, both distractions would have quickly been eliminated. I think the idea is straightforward and unambiguous, but please ask if anything is unclear. I think the implementation would be fairly simple. Regardless, if anyone else using TOM thinks such mute buttons are superfluous or would pose a problem, please explain; I would expect this to benefit others beside myself.

sorry, but i am unable to reproduce your issue here.
Do you have some information (error number and line) for me? Does the problem occur with TOM as first and only AddOn installed?

This addon is crashing live for me, currently. It comes up with a number of different ways to crash, but after testing - is only doing it with TOM installed, and only after the newest version.

an addOn is able to crash the client to desktop? Strange things happen to the worlds of phantasy .
I am sure that this is a PTS bug and will be fixed by bethesda before Summerset is released.

Nevertheless with TOM version 1.46 i am about to upload a fix to address this issue.

Additional functionality?

First off, thank you for all the work you've done on this mod, Sternentau!

Is it possible to have "ignore/save/alert" options for each officer chat as well, or does the API not allow separating to that level of specificity?

yes, its exactly that: a language to speak from TOM to TOM to surprise other players who are unable to read it
(to answer a message simply hit ENTER or use the "answer current group" icon if you have switched groups)

So if the group in Chat window is different from the one in TOM (where I want to answer) I need to use the mouse? :-/ That feels a bit uncomfortable.
Maybe you could implement that the TOMish can be switched on/off by clicking on the TOM-text

Not sure whether it is a feature I dont understand or a bug:

If I want to reply via TOM, I enter some text behind the (TOMish and hit enter.

I thought it was supposed to input it into the chat text column, but what arrives is not what I entered :-/

"Testing TOM" in zone chat got me: (TOMish Sirsomf SUL

T->, r->s, n->m, g->f, e->i, i->o, O->U
So consonants went 1 step back in the alphabet, and vocals became the next vocal on in alphabet

Edit:
Okay, so it's a feature, bc TOM is showing it right... but how do I write to ppl not using TOM ?

unfortunately i am unable to reproduce your error here on my system and from the line number you told me i fear that your saved variables file is corrupt.
As the line targets to the LOM messages, maybe only this variable is affected - lets give them a try.

Within your saved variables directory locate and open the "tom.lua" file, find the variable "lomCount" and set it to zero:
