AutoEmote  Popular! (More than 5000 hits)
Version: 1.2
by: Tajin [More]
AutoEmote lets you chat with more style.

Originally this addon was made to cope with the lack of chatbubbles by making talking players a bit more noticable (with emotes).

It has evolved from there and now features a wide variety of emotes that get triggered automatically when you chat and depending on what you say.

So no matter if you just want something that makes it easier for others to spot you when you're talking or if you want a nice tool to help your roleplaying, this might be just the addon for you.

Commands:
/autoemote - toggles the addon on/off

Default setup (per channel):
  • /say - Reacts to a wide range of generic keywords or checks for ! / ? at the end of the line if it couldn't find other keywords
  • /party - Uses the same filter as /say but only triggers when partymembers are nearby (needs testing)
  • /yell - Makes your character play the /shout emote
  • /emote - Uses a different filter that is tailored to toggle for different /emote keywords
  • For your own safety, AutoEmote will not trigger while you're in combat.
  • By default, AutoEmote is set to react to English and German keywords.

Here's an example :
/emote whistles happily
[Tajin] whistles happily
This will automatically trigger the /whistle emote.

Custom configuration:
If for any reason you aren't happy with my predefined filters, you can adjust them to your own needs. (though I'm always open for suggestions that I can include in the next update)
The filters are fully configurable.

To do so, open the "AutoEmoteFilter.lua" in a texteditor and make your changes. The basic layout is explained at the beginning of the file, but it should be fairly clear.
(if it isn't clear enough, then you probably shouldn't mess with it anyway)

Thanks for reading,
enjoy the addon.
v1.2 - 10.04.2014
  • Fixed a bug with the namefilter - emotes should now trigger only for your own chat, as intended.

v1.11 - 04.04.2014 - Quickfix
  • Fixed the default filter - /sitchair wrongfully occured too often

v1.1 - 04.04.2014
  • Rewrote filtering mechanism
  • Filter stored in separate file - easier to adjust
  • Some safety checks added - AE won't trigger in combat
  • All channels can be used (in theory)
  • Partychannel only triggers emotes when partymembers are in range (requires testing)
  • Default filters for /emote channel added

v1.0 - Initial release
  • listen to messages on /say
  • messages filtered "manually"
  • on/off trigger included
  • on/off state is saved

Hi,
I will fix it.
By all means feel free, but if you don't want to mess with it, per requests posted on the forums I already wrote a new addon for them from scratch that does the same thing: EmoteIt
hahahah I wasted my time.

I should read the follow up comments.

I left the addon active.. I guess to see if anyone tests it and if I actually fixed it

On this addon, I linked directly to yours.

I don't know if this will help, but there's a thread on the official ESO forums in which an addon author is trying to figure out the Escape bug, and then posts a github link with the solution they arrived at: http://forums.elderscrollsonline.com...eaking-esc-key

Exclamation ESC and UI freezing

MAN I had a hard time finding of which of my installed addons were causing the ESC and UI to stop responding. Finally found it. I was blaming other addons

I do hope the author is going to be able to sort out the Esc problem, it's a great plugin, and I was really enjoying it before the update, but since the update this plugin was causing my Esc to stop working after a while, so I had to constantly reloadui. I found it was this plugin by a process of elimination.

Edit: I spoke too soon. After those changes, the bug stopped happening as often, but it still occurs sometimes. I am testing it more thoroughly now to attempt to determine what triggers it.

Edit: Splitting stacks while in the Bank UI seems to break the escape button.

I was having this problem with Escape menus as well, but after I made the changes that SkOODaT suggested, the escape menus started working properly again for me.

I changed this:
Code:
	if saved.active ~= true then return end -- is AutoEmote deactivated?
	if IsUnitInCombat("player") then return end -- no emotes when we fight!
	if IsPlayerMoving() then return end -- no emotes when we move around!
	if fromName ~= GetUnitName("player") then return end -- is chatmessage sent by someone else?
To this:
Code:
	if IsUnitInCombat("player") then return end -- no emotes when we fight!
	if saved.active ~= true then return end -- is AutoEmote deactivated?
	if IsPlayerMoving() then return end -- no emotes when we move around!
	if fromName ~= GetUnitName("player") then return end -- is chatmessage sent by someone else?

to fix the startup/reload error on line 51 move

Code:
if saved.active ~= true then return end
to line 54, just a quick copy and paste

seems ESO doesnt always like saved vars when it reloads the UI, ive found with my addons just to put an API function in b4 it checks vars in this case

Code:
if IsUnitInCombat("player") then return end
works to fix the error

I put this on the code at the end:

[CHAT_CHANNEL_GUILD_1] = {
{
1,
{""},
{"/write"}
}
}

it don't do anything when I talk in the channel guild1, what I've done wrong ?

Really excited to get home and try out this add-on! I'm also happy to report (in case you haven't heard aready lol) that Zenimax plans to add chat bubbles in game soon! It might be too early to tell yet, but do you think that coding for your autoemote add-on might conflict with the coding for the game engine's chat bubbles? /knowsnothingaboutcoding

Yeh, I've noticed that too. I'll see if I can fix that on the next version, it shouldn't have any impact on functionality though.
