Writcraft  Popular! (More than 5000 hits)
Version: 1.0.0
by: haggen [More]

How many times have you wondered "what was I supposed to craft for this writ"?

Well, those times are over. Writcraft shows your current focused quest while on a crafting station!
You can even cycle to the next quest without leaving the bench!

Yes there's a myriad of other add-ons that helps with that, many all fancy with custom interface and extra information.

This one's different though, it leverages the native UI of the game, simply moving, hiding or showing stuff at the right time. The overhead is the smallest possible - less code, fewer bugs - but still rich feature wise.

So if you don't want to change the game too much and likes to stay closer to the original intent this one's for you.

I used the upload patch from the link but it looks like it published a new add-on to the site. It even has its own page here: http://www.esoui.com/downloads/info1...API100018.html

Was that supposed to happen? It looks a bit weird when two different Writcraft addons come up if people search "Writcraft" so once you get a chance to download the file I uploaded let me know and I'll go and delete mine.

Re: Re: Bug fixes / enhancements

It turns out the latest update (100018) broke things again. The new furnishing crafting menu uses the same UI_SHORTCUT_QUATERNARY keybind I was using to cycle quests (ZOS is using it to preview furnishings), so the result is Lua errors when switching to the furnishing panel. As a quick workaround I've taken out the keybind strip functionality so only the quest tracker displays but you have to leave the crafting menu to cycle it / choose quest for now.

In the meantime I'll be trying to find a better solution. I don't want to just pick another UI_SHORTCUT_ since it's evident that ZOS can use those whenever they want. Maybe there is a way to add a custom UI_SHORTCUT_* keybind.

I've uploaded the temporary fix with the keybind for now. The only other change is the one I mentioned where the quest tracker is moved to the left side of the screen to avoid being covered up by tooltips.

EDIT: Figured out how to add a custom keybind so API updates will no longer break the keybind. Uploaded a new fix so ignore the first upload.

Bug fixes / enhancements

Greetings!

I really like the minimalist approach of this addon, and have made some bug fixes and minor enhancements for my own use. Would you be interested in taking a look at the changes to possibly update the uploaded version?

Here's a summary of the changes I made:

Bugfix 1: As of the latest API version 100017, the UI_SHORTCUT_CYCLE_FOCUSED_QUEST keybind that Writcraft uses no longer exists, so it shows up in the strip as "Not Bound". It seems ZOS has replaced it with a new generic "UI_SHORTCUT_QUATERNARY" keybinding, so I have updated the add-on to use the new keybinding.

Bugfix 2: The current method of updating the keybind strip using crafting station interaction events causes duplicate keybind conflicts when opening the Journal directly from a crafting station without closing the crafting UI first. I found that the built-in quest journal UI uses the same cycle quest keybind as Writcraft, but uses a different event to do its keybind modification ("StateChange"). My guess is the two types of events are fired out of order so that the built-in Journal tries to add its keybind before Writcraft can remove its own. I fixed this by changing Writcraft to modify the keybind strip using the same callback type that the built-in UI uses.

Minor enhancement: I moved the quest tracker to the left side of the screen so it doesn't get covered up by tooltips when hovering over materials and other crafting inventory items.

If these sound like changes you are interested in looking at let me know how you want me to send the modified files to you. Thanks!

Sure, you can copy parts of the code if you want. Glad you liked it.

I loved your Writ filter idea too.
