The Elder Bar

This addon adds an information bar at either the top or the bottom of the screen, chocked full of information gadgets that update in real-time.

Release 4
  • New Gadgets:
    • Equipped items durability.
    • Research Timers.
    • Bank Space.

    • Players can now choose in what order gadgets display.
    • Players can choose how to display item durability.
    • Players can choose how to display the research timers.
    • Players can choose how to display gold.
    • The bar can now indicate when the player is in combat.
  • Changes:
    • Tooltips have been reworked so that they are more useful.
  • Fixes:
    • "Telvar Stones" spelling has been corrected to "Tel Var Stones".
    • Fixed vertical alignment of gadgets.
  • Removed Gadgets:
    • Removed the completely useless Character Name gadget. Character name has been implemented into the Level/Champion Points gadget tooltip.

Plans? Yes. It really depends on whether or not the event fires properly.

I ended up working from home today, so that means the I get more work done on The Elder Bar. The event above works great -- almost too great. It definitely hides and shows the bar whenever the targeting cursor disappears from the screen.

However, sometimes it's useful to have the bar up. Automatically hiding the bar makes the tooltips useless, as the bar hides as soon as you show the mouse pointer. Also, it'd be nice to be able to see the changes you are making in settings with the bar visible. I was thinking that there was an event whenever LibAddonMenu2 showed the settings for the addon, but apparently I was mistaken.

I guess the only caveat I could make easily is add a setting to always show the bar, like it does now. I'd rather it hide the bar when performing transactions, crafting, banking, and maybe showing the world map. I have feeling there's a lot of heartache in store as I'm sure I'll miss some.

Other than this, I have added display settings for every gadgets that warrants a setting, so there's that. I also added an FPS gadget, reduced the number of API calls, and changed the way things are centered so there's not so much jitter. Going to have to test these changes for a bit before release.

Plans? Yes. It really depends on whether or not the event fires properly.

I put in more testing and I'm going to be using this as a replacement for RAETIA InfoHub for the near future. Nice job there.

However, I noticed that the bar does not hide itself when you are in dialogue with an NPC, Merchant, Banker, or Guard. Any thoughts or plans on that front?

Ah right, cool. I was just unsure if you had it implemented already and I didn't know how to enable it. In other words I wasn't trying to rush you

I love the looks of your addon design as it looks really sleek and great thing you added an option to remove all flashy colors. Thanks for you great work again.

Technically speaking, no it does not have to display it. But its something some players are used to (myself included) and it can benefit some new players. When I made that modification, I trimmed down the dropdown list's options to just three and hardcoded the number 3 into the tweaks since it saved time. So yeah, I think its easier to just hardcode it in there.

NEW VERSION

Hi all,

I had a few minutes to patch up the combat indicator so that it both honors the bar opacity -- as was originally intended -- and should now appear/disappear properly when in/out of combat.

This appears to be because the important files in the folder (TEB.lua and maybe TEB.txt and TEB.xml) don't have the same name as the folder they are in.

Once I got it working, I gave the new features a spin. The largest concern is that its combat detection function breaks if you use a Wayshrine to change zones completely.

I outran an aggro'd Durzog in Deshaan and took a Wayshrine to Rawl'kha. Once I loaded in, I noticed that the addon failed to notice that I broke combat via Fast Travel and stayed red. And this is besides the fact that the bar ignores transparency settings when its red.

One last thing I did was look at the lua file and combine both "needed" and "collected" skyshard functions into a single solitary function so it displays "0/3" (collected/needed). This is for testing purposes and it works so far, but I can show you how I did that if you want (it's not complicated). It may have to wait until after the hurricane near me passes by however.

As far as I know I have no addon for the action bar. It might look a bit odd as I haven't slotted any skills on it after starting playing again ? I even disabled all my other addons I have and it still looked the same.
