AlignGrid
Version: 0.4
by: skyraker [More]
AlignGrid was designed to allow a user to display gridlines on the UI to facilitate aligning other controls/addons.

This addon is in an early beta stage and may be buggy. Please report them as they come up.

Version 0.3 will reset your saved variables file due to changing how one of the settings work.

Commands:
  • /grid - Shows/Hides Grid Lines
  • /align - Displays Settings Menu (also accessible through ESC menu)

Current User Controllable Settings (updates grid on screen when Reset Grid button pushed in settings menu):
  • Line Thickness
  • Grid Box Size
  • Center Lines Color
  • Grid Transparency (Doesn't require grid reset)

Planned/Possible Features:
  • Other Grid Line Color Picker
Version 0.4: Updated to new API version

Version 0.3: Hopefully fixed display issues. Bolded lines every 5 lines added. Changed how transparency worked. Added option to change line color for non-center lines.

Version 0.2: Added colored 'center' lines and ability to change desired color. Added ability to change grid transparency.

Since some days ago I got the following LAM2 note when I login.

[LAM2] The panel with id 'AlignGridOptions' was registered before addon loading has completed. This might break the AddOn Settings menu.

New version coming/out. Incorporated merlight's changes that may hopefully fix all display issues, ensure the center line is in the center, and make every set number of lines bolder than the others.

With this change, the implementation of how transparent the grid is was changed, therefore I had to force a saved variables reset.

So the center line coloring wasn't as difficult as I thought it would be. Just be warned, it is only an approximate 'center'. Also, you can now modify the transparency of the grid to what you desire.

Next project is to solve the single-thickness display problem and the odd bold lines problem. My thought is that both are caused by the same thing, but will have to pick at it.

There is some discussion in the thread this addon came from about looking at the UI scale value as a cause behind the odd spacing to 1-thick lines, and it may be that the odd-looking bold/not-bold issue is related (though not sure how). May just be a simple tweak of the line texture when it is created for all I know.
and there was me, thinking this would be simple..mk, standing corrected

if you do not mind a few suggestions:

- try highlighting with a different colour the centre-most vertical line of the grid. The more lines i need to count to its right and left (ie the longer a UI element is), the more i lose track as it currently stands

- try and distinguish further between alternating vertical lines. As it is right now, there are some that are done so in a reasonable order, and some that are not. Having two bolded ones in a row makes for a confusing result.
Thanks.
