May i suggest a slight change to text syntax? Display as such:
You gained 48 gold.
You received x2.
Basically remove the "you lost gold" and the square brackets, this keeps it neat-looking without too much clutter for easier reading.
Also, if it doesn't already work like that, merge all shop spendings after the player close...
