When I attempt to execute a search the result page shows the heading followed by the message:
Retrieving reCAPTCHA token.
A spinner in front of the message rotates endlessly. No search outcome is subsequently displayed.

I suggest that you change Backup your MMxxData.lua files before updating to newer versions to:
Backup the MMxxData.lua files which are in .../Saved Variables before updating to newer versions.

The "data files" you have backed up are not the save data MM creates. You have made backups of part of the addon code and the game loads any addons from subfolder inside the live/AddOn folder following some specific rules. That's by design and if you store your backups inside that folder, that's not the author's problem. ;)

After I installed the most recent TTC update afresh, I ran client.exe as I normally do before launching TESO game client.
Then I logged-in to the game and selected a character. After the character was loaded and ready for play, I used the ESC > Addons feature to enable loading the TTC add-on, then reloaded the UI.

Are you sure you have the latest version? You might need to manually delete the MasterRecipeList folder and reinstall. The version before the recent update contained entries that were since removed from the game which cause the app to crash with LUA errors doing a number of things including switching pages.
