API Question - track player
 

Hello,

i am new to the world of add-on creation.
I find your tutorial and wiki very helpful.

With the help of the tutorial i try to write an addon, that can track players
that are not in guild or a friend. I tried
IsUnitInGroupSupportRange - this only seems to work if player is in a group
I wanted to use TargetUnitByName
Is it possible to show if i am near a named player?

Is there any advice or hint you can give me?

The background to this addon is, finding a person in a map.

As far as I know you can only see information about other players if you hint your crosshair/reticle at the player or object.
You can port to other players, like porting to wayshrines. But I think you are not able to get information about "Where the player is" before porting.
Only information I could think of is the one shown in the guild roster oder friends list.

The only way you could do this that I ever found was if the player your looking for appears on your map. You can use the map pin to find their location, but that requires being grouped with them.
