I didn't think of those. However it could still be differentiated, because heavy sacks give a larger quantity of mats. Say 5 decorative wax vs. just one or two.

An addon can listen to EVENT_LOOT_RECEIVED, which also fires when group members get loot. If the item received is a material, it can safely be assumed for the most part...
