Putting a single point into soul trap is worth it IMO. You need soul gems to recharge your enchanted weapons and to be able to respawn on the spot instead of having to hoof it back from a shrine or spawn point. You can buy 10 empty soul gems for the same price as one filled soul gem. In the end, that can save you a ton of money and make life much easier.
