Question Minion will not "Start" nothing in the task bar either

I had removed and reinstalled minion shortly after the problem where everyone had to do so and it was working fine. Then shortly after it would not open the interface for minion at all. I have tried multiple iterations of deleting and reinstalling the application and none seem to work. I see minion.exe in the background processes of my task manager but that is as far as it gets and there is no .xml file made. I have the log here. please help.

I have already tried most of these and just finished with the items I had yet to try. Still not working. I am going to post the last item from my log. Nothing in the log, which I have attached above, has anything other than INFO. Minion itself also comes with JAVA as part of the download and install.

Minion is legit just not starting. That is always as far as the log gets before my next attempt at opening the program.

The only other information that I have yet to add to this post is my OS - Windows 10.

Did you try the troubleshooting guide of Minion (sticky thread in the minion forums, at the top) already?
Especially check the points about Minion not showing and MS OneDrive.

Are you using Minion 32 bit version and checked the antivirus tools' whitelist, the network setup (java ip6 vs ip4)?

Regarding to this ipv4 vs ipv6 the forum search provided me this thread too:

I went through everything. I do not use OneDrive (there is a special hell for OneDrive for deleting my kids baby pics). I have already tried 32 bit with the same result. I didn't post anything about ipv4 or 6 what are you talking about?

The link you posted leads to more links that I have looked at and just the forum... nothing new pinned.

I'm talking about the troubleshooting guide which was mentioned in my linked thread.
Sometimes this network usage of ipv4 or ipv6 in java affects the total Minion program and it silently fails then.

Follow that post's link to the troubleshooting guide and check if point #14 helps you.
"If Minion is not able to connect to the internet..."

If this does neither help:
At best make a clean install of Minion. Uninstall it before testing new and chosoe "Delete configuration" too.
After that install the 32bit version of Minion again (and allow the Minion installation exe file in your Antivirus before you start it so it can properly work and install all corretcly).
Maybe install it not to the default folder c:\users\..\AppData\ but to e.g. c:\Minion for a test.

Then allow that installed folder in your Ativirus whitelists too again so Minion.exe and folder c:\Minion can properly read and write it's files.
Start Minion and see if you can see it now on screen.

If not:
Do you see a Minion icon in your system tray? Right click it and choose "Reset position".
If there is no Minion icon: Close minion via the task manager.

Maybe manually changing the minion.xml file entries mentined at post #7 ff helps you then.


If not:

Send us your new Minion's install clean minion.xml and minion.log file then like described here (minion.xml might be missing then!):

Exclamation I don't think you understand what I mean by start.

I have read through the troubleshooting guide and no #14 did not help. I have made multiple clean installs of the program. I have looked at my antivirus and firewall. It is added it to the approved app list. I have moved it to my D: drive.

Minion is not in the system tray. Minion is not on the system bar in any way. Yes it is running in the background because I have pulled up the task manager and looked.

Yes I have multiple monitors. But minion would have to start for me to be able to manipulate it from any hiding spots it might try to be in.

There is no .XML file to post.

MINION IS NOT STARTING.

Please check my UPDATED log file which shows minion not starting on repeat.

Yes I am very frustrated. I apologize.

Read this post please from another thread with simialr issue. The user was missing files from Minion installation!

Check if you see the same folders and files (the dates and sizes could differ as this post is from 2023 and we got a new Minion version released since then!)
in your Minion installation, or if anyhting is missing.
If so something blocked extraction of the files then on installation already

The user was using Norton (Antivirus) tools, maybe you do too?



Unfortunately I have no other ideas then...
Something on your computer (software most probably) is interfering and making Minion be blocked.

You could try the following:
Create a new Windows user in control panel->accounts and then login there and install Minion fresh to a new folder.
Then try if this starts.

If this is the case then most probabyl your other windows user is using any software that blocks Minion there.
And it's hard to see or find out what it is as we cannot see or now your setup

I am missing files from multiple folders. I do not have a second user account set up and do not wish to. I will fresh install windows and slowly add programs. Hopefully they will play nice this time around. Thank you for looking into this for me.

Here is an actual filelist of my Minion 3 v3.0.12 folders and files as of 2024-05-27, for comparison.
My custom chosen install directory of Minion3 is:
C:\Users\<your windows username here>\Documents\Elder Scrolls Online\Minion3
-> So just 1 folder above the "live/AddOns" folder.

Your Minion 3 install should look similar to this if you downloaded and installed Minion 3.0.12 32bit for Windows here:
