Updating an abandoned Addon

I want to update the Addon called MassDeconstructor.

The last update by the author was in late 2015 and (s)he has not been on since last year.

Is it cool for me to do that? I searched for this question and only found this Thread.

You could also use Do It All. It has multi-decon built in, along with a bunch of other things, and is being maintained by Baertram. It obeys any filters applied to the inventory list (if it's not shown in the list, it won't decon it).
