Need help with french and german npc names for Destinations

Hi all

I have a complete list of npc names, but they need some polishing in both german and french.

Examples (french):
chambellan Weller^md
duc Sébastien^md
garde du Domaine^m
capitaine Janève^fmd

Examples (german):
Xivilai Ravager^m
Micella Carlinus^F
Dominion-Wache^mf
S'rashis Beschützer^Mg

I assume those ^m, ^fmd, ^md, ^mf, ^M, ^m, etc. tells something about what should be in front of the names.

I would like someone to either guide me (or link me to a guide) to do it myself OR someone to go through the npc lists and correct them for me. Note the list is almost 40,000 names long, although far from all needs adjusting.

Please PM me if you wish to help.

^md means Masculine + pronoum. ^fmd is same for Feminine.

In french, the word is "Le" for masculine and "La" for feminine. the english correspondance is word "The".

chambellan Weller^md = Le Chambellan Weller
duc Sébastien^md = Le Duc Sébastien
garde du Domaine^m = Garde du Domaine
capitaine Janève^fmd = La Capitaine Janève

Why you don't just zo_strformat them?

I guess I could use zo_strformat, but then I would have to include the entire NPC list in Destinations, which I try to avoid as it is big enough already with the entire quests list.
Odd thing is, when I converted to csv format, the "^" character disappeared, so "garde du Domaine^m" became "garde du Domainem".
Guess I made it worse for myself (I still have the original data though)

I don't understand what you want to do yet

You only want to include some names in lua later but want the complete CSV formatted? If so then it could easily be done with RegEx in Notepad++

What format do you need it (IDs etc or just names), I could dump you the files

I have the data already, and I saved them like this in lua:
1906 "Librarian Sharuk", "Bibliothekarin Sharuk", "bibliothécaire Sharukd",
1907 "Mage Tharlas", "Magierin Tharlas", "mage Tharlasd",
1908 "Sir Hughes", "Sir Hughes", "sieur Hugues",

Number isn't used. Then I have the english name, then german and lastly french.
"mage Tharlasd" originated from "mage Tharlas^d" (from a spreadsheet) so it is essentially the wrong names I have saved in french and german.
But maybe it would just be easier if I re-exported the data WITH the "^" character, and corrected my data for Destinations. Then I could use zo_strformat as Ayantir suggested

Yeah, if you don't have the "^" then you'd have to manually go through them. It's much easier to import them again without the flags or import them with the flags and use zo_strformat. For formating I can suggest Notepad++ and LibreOffice Calc (or similar) and save the formulas/RegEx so after an api update it can be done again without much trouble.

I guess it's time for me to look into the RegEx system I guess (already use Notepad++)
Thanks for the tips

I had already prepared Destinations with zo_strformat although I had to tweak it a bit.
Lua Code:
  1. table.insert(pinTag, 2, ZO_ColorDef:New(unpack(DestinationsSV.pins.pinTextureQuestsDone.textcolor)):Colorize("["..zo_strformat("<<1>>", NPC).."]"))
I haved one problem left though. The returned values don't have the first letter capitalized, which I want.
The remaining string should not be altered.
Example:
My data contains "chef Tazgol^md".
It is shown as "le chef Tazgol".
It SHOULD show "Le chef Tazgol".

I tried
Lua Code:
  1. table.insert(pinTag, 2, ZO_ColorDef:New(unpack(DestinationsSV.pins.pinTextureQuestsDone.textcolor)):Colorize("["..zo_strformat("<<1>>", NPC:gsub("^%l", string.upper)).."]"))
but this returns "LE chef Tazgol" (the TWO first letters are capitals).

What am I missing here?

http://wiki.esoui.com/How_to_format_...h_zo_strformat

new page on th wiki that sums up an old garkin's post about these zo_formats.

wild attempt : i'd try <<C:1>> but i'm not sure it would capitalize the first letter of the article. Anyway, the answer lies somewhere in this wiki's page. Good luck!
