Sorry if this exists Bertram. But is there an add-on that can tell you if an ESO characters name exists or is free? TYVM.

Ignore it.
If it's found, the char exists. If not, the name is free.

Or simply create a char.

We are not able to check if a character name already is in use by the help of addons.
You need to create a char and test the name there upon character creation.
