After getting the "cannot connect" error most of the times i tried to open the Program and temporary disabling firewalls without any success i found this error in the log files:

It seams that Minion cannot connect over IPV6 and my pc is unsing this as default.
Setting the option to use ipv4 solved the problem.
Maybe you can add a fallback to ipv4 or the system-property in general to the source of minion.
