Map Overlay (Grayscale, ala Diablo 2)

Would it be possible to make a UI overlay of a grayscale map similar to D2 (and probably D3, I forget what D3 looks like)? If so, anyone up to that task?

Failing that any chance anyone would make something like Votan's Minimap with transparency options?

I'd say it is possible to do, but I'm not sure if the existing map images will work since their background is very bright. One would probably have to create appropriate images for all maps in the game and keep them up to date, which would require an insane amount of work.

Have you asked votan in the comment section if he would add a transparency option to his minimap?

I mentioned it to Votan, he looked into it it seems (he has a screenshot of a semi-transparent looking game map or a large version of his minimap). Not sure what he plans to do, if anything, since I too believe it would require actually creating new maps and no one is that insane.
