Range Reticle  Popular! (More than 5000 hits)
Version: 0.52
by: Adein [More]
THIS ADDON IS DEAD DUE TO A CHANGE BY ZENIMAX

Author: Adein
Guild: Eternal Defiance

Range Reticle modifies the targeting reticle to add the distance to the highlighted target in meters. It also displays the name and level/veteran rank of the target above the reticle.

The color of the reticle changes depending on friend/foe and the range to the target (Out of Range, In Range, In Melee Range).

All features can be configured in the Settings menu (including colors).

New range formula! It's still being tested, but so far it seems to be more consistent.

If you have a feature request or run into a bug, please comment. Also, if you find a zone where the range calculation is wrong (or missing), please let me know!

If you wish to contribute and are familiar with Lua/Git, please send me a PM.

Additional Feature Request

Would it be possible to add a ranger indicator floating next to party member icons? So that I could see how far behind me my party members are without needing to get a minimap addon?

I just saw in the release notes that the author for Reticle Settings fixed a bug with Too Many Anchors. Try updating and see if you still get the error.

I have both addons enabled on my machine without any error, so I don't know why you would have an error. Maybe you have something enabled in mhFramework that is causing the conflict?

No "too many anchors processed" error while disabeling "Range Reticle" addon, if I disable mhFramework and enable "Range Reticle" there are running without "too many anchors processed" error too.

There are compatibility-Problems? Or "Range Reticle" bugged?

Re: Ranges wrong

Ok, thanks! I'll check it out and try to get a fix in for it soon.

I added the difficulty with the latest version (it was pretty simple). I'll add the class symbol to the to-do list.

Re: Re: Suggestion: increase range adjustment

[quote=Adein]Hi amourfou,

Skill ranges shouldn't really ever be more than 60m (as far as I know). What's happening is the zone you were in was causing the range to be reported incorrectly. Do you remember which zone/map/dungeon you were in when this happened? If so, I can update the addon to report the range more accurately for that map.

Hi Adein,

You are right, I tried your addon in Stonefalls and the range worked as intended. When I first tested your addon I was in Bleakrock starting Island for Ebonheart Pact. I was hunting wolves on the SE area of the Island near the coast.

Thanks for the response, great addon. I'm really enjoying it.

My Poison Bow skill has a range of 28m but in game it shows target in range at 69m.
If you adjusted your range to go higher than 60m, say up to 80m or 90m, then I could just calibrate it in game.

All I have to do is move closer or away from a target until the skill on the hotbar lights up and note the in game range. Right now that is 69m even though the skill says it has a 28m range.

That would allow the user to calibrate the range to whatever range lights up the skill on the hotbar. So if the range changes per zone or whatever, it doesn't matter since the player can easily calibrate the current range.

But now your range maxes out at 60m, since most ranged skills seem to be around 70m in game your max distance falls short.

Thanks, hope this suggestion helps.

Hey - Next time you notice that they are off, please let me know which zone/dungeon/etc you are in. ESO's coordinate system changes based on the map size, so some of the range calculations are wrong until I adjust for the size of the map.

For example Templar skill Binding javelin says 20m, but the maximum range on which I can cast it by this addon is 37m!
For 28m skills the addon shows 52m!

This should be fixed.

Edit:
after relog,m the difference is just 3m, Binding javelin 20m - reticle shows 23m, other 28m range attacks - reticle shows 31m

Re: Error message

Hey - based on the error message in your screenshot, it looks like the addon TreasureMaps is actually causing your issue.

Am attaching a screenshot so you can see for yourself.

Thanks, I'll try to get out there this week and see if I can work in some fixes.

Also, keep in mind that the range calculation doesn't take height into consideration (since the API doesn't let me obtain the 'Z' position of a player or NPC). So if there's hills involved, it will be off a bit.

The area was "The Cave of Trophies" in Coldharbor.

Edit: Also Mal Sorra's Tomb

Edit 2: Also the Manor of Revelry (interior portion) has the opposite problem. The addon reports numbers that are smaller than the actual distance.

Honestly it's just most areas in Coldharbor. The exterior overworld area seems to have some issues at times too (like reporting 17m when I know it's 20m because of Snipe).
