Event Tracker  Updated less than 3 days ago!  Popular! (More than 5000 hits)
Version: 2.201
by: Kelinmiriel [More]
Helps keep track of Event Tickets so you don't miss any.

- Minimal performance impact
- No libraries required (simple installation)

- Reminds you when you need to spend tickets so you don't go over the 12-ticket cap.
- Reminds you if you haven't gotten all your tickets yet the last few hours before reset.

- Can give you info, like which tickets you've gotten already for the day, how to get them,
how many are left to get for the event (/evt and /evti)
- Can put info in chat about how to get tickets when event ends, how many tickets are
left to get - to answer questions for people. (/evtc)

Automatic messages:
- at character sign on ** Now with notification if you need to spend tickets!
- when a ticket is acquired
- when tickets are spent at the Impresario.
- when tickets become available again after daily reset.

Commands:
/evt - View ticket information
/evt coll - shows status of your collectibles currently available at Impresario for tickets
/evt done - manually mark that you have completed your ticket(s) for the day
/evt undo - reverse "/evt done"
/evt help - Shows all chat commands (/evt ? also works)

/evti <event> - the first three letters of any event name, past, present, or future.

/evt hide - Hide chat messages, except the most important
/evt show - Show all chat messages (reverse /evthide)
/evt ui - Toggles user interface

/evtc - Posts event info to chat line, to answer other player's questions
- Please be sure you are in the correct chat before doing this!
- You have to press ENTER to send the line.

All of the options that are listed for "evti" above, also work for "evtc".

/evtc help - View options for event details (this one does NOT post to chat to send)

The User Interface hides during combat, and in between events.

This addon works for people who play on both NA and EU servers.
(Keeps info separate - tickets are stored, counted, and earned
separately on each server, so the addon treats them as such.)

KNOWN ISSUE:

If your game crashes after you got tickets for the day, the addon will not recognize that you got your daily tickets. (Also if you got them on a different computer.) This is because there is no function provided to tell me that daily tickets have been received - only the moment that they are. And variables are not saved to your hard drive until you reloadui, or sign out.

/evt done
can be used to manually indicate you have completed tickets for the day.
/evt undo
manually changes daily ticket status to show that they have not been completed.

This fixes itself at daily reset.

Note: If you have any problems with this addon, it's most likely due to
older versions. Try uninstalling it, deleting saved variables, then re-install.
That will guarantee you have the most recent version of addon and
variables, and it should be mostly restored very quickly; entirely restored
after the next daily reset.

If you still have any problems, please contact me! Thank you!

@Kelinmiriel or @KrystlPryzm (2nd account) on both NA and EU,
or you can leave a comment on ESOUI.

To do: Support for other languages, settings, better (optional) warnings.

I checked this. It's working fine for me. Type in chat:

/evt ui

If you want it to stay off, you can do /reloadui to save the setting immediately, or if you sign off the game, it should save the setting correctly. (If your game crashes, the setting will probably not be saved.)

The setting applies to all of your characters on one server. So if you play on both NA and EU, you would have to do it separately for the other server. I originally kept everything separate between the two servers.

I hope that helps. Please let me know if it doesn't work, or if you have any other questions.

Thanks for your comments! I'll check that out after I get the Mayhem update out. I've been working very hard on getting autobuff to work with scrolls.

Nice idea, but... It's massively annoying as currently implimented!

It keeps triggering at seemingly random times despite having well over an hour to go on the timer, plus it keeps triggering while I'm stealthed and pulling me out of said stealth.

I'll be turning it off for all my toons for now.

Thanks again for the comment on stealth. I've implemented your suggestion - it won't try to activate the buff if you're in stealth now.

Also, as for the timing: It's currently set to do the event buff when you sign on, when you turn on auto-buffing, when your buff runs down to one hour left, and if the buff falls to below one hour, it'll try again at 5-minute intervals.

As for "all toons" - auto-buff is currently a simple setting, that applies to all of the ESO accounts you play on the same computer. (I figured either people will want to use it, or not, so make it easy.)

When I have time, I'll add a settings menu, to give people more control. My initial goals have been to minimize performance impact, and keep this as easy to install and use as possible, even for new players. It'll keep evolving as I have time, and as I learn more, and from suggestions and requests.
Thanks for the quick update, I'll give it another try. Although, on the timing issue, I was seeing it triggering at 1hr, 50 minutes left, so it was definitely jumping the gun. IIRC, it seemed to happen just after using a wayshrine, perhaps the "on logon" trigger was going off? I'll post here with how it seems to be working now.

Nice idea, but... It's massively annoying as currently implimented!

It keeps triggering at seemingly random times despite having well over an hour to go on the timer, plus it keeps triggering while I'm stealthed and pulling me out of said stealth.

I'll be turning it off for all my toons for now.

Thank you for the feedback! That's why "off" is an option. (Or at least it's supposed to be - I've heard that's not working right, so I'm issuing a new version momentarily to make sure it won't auto-buff if it's off.)

I want to get this out immediately, for people who are having problems with it - but thanks to your comment, I'll see about checking for stealth tonight, try to do some testing on that, and hopefully get out a new one that will address that.

I've never seen anything like this before, nor heard about it from anyone else, nor can I think of any way my addon is doing it - the UI is quite simple. I have an idea what's causing it, though. I'd guess that some other addon is putting an icon on the screen over Event Tracker. When you get tickets, Event Tracker refreshes its UI, which might put it on top of the other icon.

If it happens again - try moving Event Tracker's UI by clicking and dragging it. If you move it so the UI would still overlap where the box had been, and the box is coming from another addon, then when it shows up again, the box would appear on a different portion of the Event Tracker UI. Then you'll know to look for something else causing it.

If the box moves with the Event Tracker UI, then please let me know, and I'll try to figure out what else might be going on. Thanks!
It is not "a box", it is clearly the same thing that would happen when the text contains a letter not available in the font. And yes, it moves with the UI.

Actually my friend sent me that exact screenshot with the comment "look, I got a weird glitch" and I was like "yeah, happens to me all the time", and then I used his to write the previous comment, because I wasn't logging back in that day. While we're using many addons that are the same, the configuration is not identical, also I'm pretty sure he keeps his UI in another place than me. And it's ALWAYS that "e" in Tickets, no other letter.

There has to be something fishy going on with encoding, might have something to do with the *operating system* language, if you're not getting the glitch. Both me and my friend are playing the game in English, but our Windows are Polish. Where does that word "Tickets" even come from?

The *truly* fascinating part is why it toggles on and off... It like totally should be coming from the same place and in the same way.
Thank you for trying the experiment for me, and for letting me know - I appreciate it! Sorry for referring to the glitchy element as a "box" - I simply meant the term as descriptive. I'll call it a "square" instead.

I agree with you, that it's much more puzzling about how it's there sometimes, and sometimes not. Also that it's very likely related to the system language - that's probably why you and your friend are seeing this, but I haven't seen it, nor heard from it from anyone else yet.

I would love to fix it for you, if I can figure out how. I'll probably have to ask for help from addon developers who work in other languages to do it. If you think of any other clues, please let me know. Thank you!

Also - in answer to your question, "Tickets:" is initially created on screen in EVTUserInterface, lines 110-114, then updated in EVTUtils.lua, lines 420-463, using a local variable called "UIMessageNone". If you actually look at the code, I apologize for how messy it is - I didn't know Lua at all when I started writing this two years ago. It's long overdue for a total re-write.

Also, might I suggest a workaround for the "available ticket" problem?
Since this happens only when the information didn't get saved properly for some reason, it usually happens when people are very well aware of the fact that they just got those tickets. So perhaps adding a slash command *meant as a workaround* that would send the same signal to the addon as getting tickets would let people immediately fix the display, before they forget what they were doing?
Something like "/gottickets 2" (with a number in case of event that gives tickets in more than one "part").
The workaround: Very good suggestion, thank you! I'd been considering something like that. Perhaps "/evt done" to tell it you'd finished your tickets for the day. Although if you've only finished one part, it might be good to figure out a "/evt done x" to let someone tell it which "x" had been finished. I'll have to think that part through some more.

Re: Available tickets not correct

Unfortunately, there is a known problem with available tickets, but I haven't come up with a reasonable solution for it yet. It doesn't happen often, and it only lasts until reset when it does happen.

The problem is that there is no way for the Event Tracker to tell if tickets have been received for the day or not. This is not information that's kept on the account in any way that I know of, that's available to addons. (Unlike, for example, the number of tickets that you have - any addon has a function available to check on that at any time.)

So the way that I get that information is by observing that you have gotten tickets when the Event Tracker is active, then saving that information. Also unfortunately, though - addons can't actually write variables to your hard drive. Ever. They are only actually saved when you reload ui, or sign out. Until then - they're just in memory.

So if your game crashes, it's lost, and I can't get it back.

I'm sorry about that. I would love to find a better way to deal with this. Until I can, I've chosen to warn people about missing tickets (even if on rare occasions they already got them), rather than risk having them miss some.

As for the NA/EU - those are completely separate. I was playing on both before I started writing this, so made sure from the beginning that it didn't suffer from the confusion I had already experienced with other addons.

I'm absolutely positive about the number of tickets I had yesterday, and the fact that I did earn them today, because I was 2 tickets shy of what I wanted yesterday, and then when I earned the tickets today, I went straight to the Impresario and spent them. In case it matters, this was on the NA server. I haven't earned them on EU and won't be before reset, so it still says I have 2 available there as well.
