The Questing Guide  Popular! (More than 5000 hits)
Version: 0.52
by: Alianym [More]
Welcome to The Questing Guide (TQG)!

ESO's story content keeps expanding, and with each new Chapter comes a new tutorial and beginner experience. It doesn't always do the best job of introducing you to past content however, and that's where TQG comes in. Featuring an easy-to-use interface, simply set up a keybind in CONTROLS, and you're good to go. Press to open, press to close. It's that simple! (Or alternatively use the slash command /tqg to toggle the menu open/closed)

At the moment there are three primary tabs as you can see in the screenshots:
  1. Overview
  2. Classic Stories
  3. DLC and Chapter Stories
  4. Group Content (Dungeons, Trials, and Arenas)
Features
A list of quests compiled from both Zenimax's Zone Guide and LibUespQuestData, you'll find each major storyline in the game listed in chronological order, (defaulting to order of content release), where you can follow along or even check off your list you may have left uncompleted years ago.

Each major category, (Aldmeri Dominion, Fighters Guild, Daedric War, etc.), is preceded by a number indicating its overall place in the story. Within each major category is a subcategory where each zone or DLC is listed according to its place within the major category arc. For example;

(1) Aldermeri Dominion
(1.00) Khenarthi's Roost
(1.10) Auridon

Embedded in the GUI interface is a button that ties directly to the Zone Story function allowing you to instantly zoom to your current place in that zone. That means even if you've finished every major quest in the zone, you'll be directed to Points-of-Interest you have yet to complete, (maybe directly to side-quests in a far future update), or other objectives left in the region.

Now works in German, French, and Russian clients. Should also support Japanese and Simplified Chinese. Quest Names and Zone Descriptions are translated, Completed Quest Descriptions and the Overview page are not all done, yet. Let me know if you'd like to help, even just with translating the Overview page.

Required Libraries:
LibUespQuestData

Future Ideas
– Add a button similar to the one for Zone Stories for accepting Dungeon Quests, where the requisite DLC has been purchased by the user.
– Add an "Easter Eggs" type of section for each major arc, detailing hidden stories or recurring characters.

Please feel free to leave feedback and/or suggestions in the comments.

    • All text except for quest descriptions post-completion and Overview tab categories should be translated. Anyone that wants to help with translating more or fixing any errors let me know
  • Removed AddOn pre-compatibility with the Greymoor API update (100031) due to the fact that it will break once it updates to the new Chapter anyway (an update will be deployed on the day of the PC launch of the Chapter to bring it up to date – working on future-proofing this so an update on the day of a patch isn't required)
  • Added slash command "/tqg" to toggle the menu open/closed without a keybind

So this one is because of the newer "Year-long Story" format ZOS did for Elsweyr and Skyrim, (Season of the Dragon / Dark Heart of Skyrim). I think I originally set it up with the Yearly stories all being in the one place, before I created the Group tab. If I'm remembering rightly (can't jump in-game at the moment) the heading for that section is named after the Year-long Story (for example; The Season of the Dragon), and so because the dungeons relate to the aforementioned Story, I put them under that category. I do see the point about the Group tab being the "one-stop shop" for dungeons/trials though, so maybe I'll just put them in both, and they'll both tie back to the same quests, so if it marks as complete in one spot, it'll complete in both. I'll think on it!

I remember thinking about that when I was adding them to the Group section after you first suggested it, but can't recall why I didn't do that. I'll look into it this weekend if I get some time.

EDIT: Done! I added the icons, but rearranged them slightly because I didn't like the look of them at the end of the zone names in the bullet point list. I'll look into the other point as I get time.

Fair enough.
To preserve that format you could:
- Also use the dungeon-icons for those dungeons in the bullet points like you just did for the Group-tab to make it consistent, and that way they can stay in the DLC-tab
- Offer a small explanation on the Overview tab as to the change by ZOS towards a yearly format which results in dungeons from those yearly chapters being presented on the DLC-tab, and not the Group-tab

Those bullet point icons for the Group-tab are exactly as I envisioned them, so thanks for that.

And I have to say it's a real pleasure working with you, if you want to call it that, because you're really open and receptive to feedback.

Edit: the Group-tab seems to have an issue with the button. The button is always empty, even if I switch between instances I've already done or still have to do.

Hi there!

I appreciate the feedback!
I'll add that it's probably not coming soon though, unfortunately. As much as I'd like the feature, it's not something for which I have the time right now, especially considering to my knowledge there are decent alternative AddOns for side-quests. It's definitely still on the table, but not something that's likely in the near future. I wish you good hunting, though!

Hey again!

I've just done a fair amount of questing myself, so I remembered it!

You make an interesting point, though. There might be others that could be worth adding. I specifically added Balmora because of the depth as you say, and it's relevance to future Major Stories. That said, there is a two-quest chain in Coldharbour that features guest appearances from three former zone antagonists, (one from each Alliance), that could be interesting to add, for example. I'll search my memory and maybe ask some others I know who are even more prolific questers than I and see what we can remember.
I stopped doing the normal quests as they're just all utterly boring copies of "Go there, collect X, kill Y, talk to A, done. Next area/POI".

Contrary to that the Balmora quest chain has a build-up, rivals main-zone-story quests in terms of length and has actually decent storytelling.
Those kinds of quests I will do gladly, as you noticed the effort that went into creating them - unlike all the other cookie-cutter boring ones.

A few improvements:
- Vanilla dungeons with 2 version should offer that information more clearly: on the screenshot above a clear identifier which objective belongs to which version, e.g. Banished Cells 1: Objective, and below Banished Cells 2: Objective
- Currently no textual or visual difference between dungeons and trials. Just use the ESO icons for dungeon and trial for every entry. Matter of preference where to put it, but I'd favor the icon behind the text, e.g. 1.19 Auridon <dungeon icon>

DLC-dungeons will also be present in the same tab, right?

The Overview-Tab needs a small explanation of the group tab similar to the quest tabs.

And don't worry about frequent updates: you're the dev creating something for free in your spare time.

Edit: Gold Coast - The Sweetroll Killer: is that quest even available anymore? I can't find the trigger notice anywhere.

Hey again! Thanks as always for the well-constructed feedback, I appreciate the time.

Version I / Version II:
  • Fair point. I played around with a few options for differentiating them, but for some reason it never occurred to me to just put it in the objectives space. Busy + Tired, I guess! I'll see about putting it in the next release or the one after that. Though it will show the specific Dungeon I/II to which it's tied if the objective is incomplete. Or it should at least.
Dungeons / Trials:
  • I like the idea of putting an icon next to the zone/region name. I'll look at that this weekend as well if I get time.
Updated Overview-Tab + DLC Dungeons:
  • This one was actually already on my To-Do list after I posted the latest update, but always good to mention anyway. You never know when you might spark an idea.
  • Yes, DLC dungeons will go in this tab, too.
Frequent Updates – Don't Worry:
  • Thanks. Also a good point.
Gold Coast – The Sweetroll Killer
  • So this is kind of an "odd-one-out" quest. I haven't actually done it myself, but I've seen/read that the quest requires you to have done not only the Main Story of the Gold Coast, but every other quest on the Gold Coast before it will appear, (except dailies). I meant to put a note about that somewhere in the guide itself, but apparently I haven't gotten around to it yet. Will see what I can do/where I can put a notice.

Updates

Hi to anyone that reads this!

Update for those that are interested.
I've been really busy and caught up in a bunch of things this past couple weeks, but I've still been working on the AddOn as and when I can. The next feature I'm doing is relating to dungeon and trial quests, which is well underway. I've got the groundwork laid and some of the details ready, but even so depending on how my upcoming week goes it may not get published until next Friday or next Sat/Sun. Might be sooner, but we'll see. Hope you can make good use of the feature, and as always I appreciate the support and comments/feedback.

Is it possible to add dungeons and raids?
- Categorizing each dungeon/raid to their corresponding zones, e.g. Spindleclutch to Glenumbra, as I have no idea where all those DLC dungeons actually belong to without consulting the wiki
- Tracking of the dungeon/raid quests similar to the current tracking of zone quests, so I can tell with a single glance if I did a certain quest or not
Hello!

So, yes. It is certainly possible if I'm understanding what you're asking correctly.
I can either make a separate category for dungeons and trials and tag the quest with the zone to which it belongs, or just add the dungeon/trial quests to the end of the list of zone quests. So for example, at the end of Alik'r list of quests, I'd add the quest for Volenfell. (I'd just need to decide which option is easier to do/more user-friendly.)

I'd need to do some extra behind-the-scenes coding to get the map zoom-to-location working, or the "click this button to accept the quest", but certainly doable.

If that's what you're after, I'll add it to my To-Do list.
Yep, that's what I'm after.

An idea for the how:
Keeping everything as it is, but every zone with a dungeon/raid gets those as new entries below it, e.g. Glenumbra would have 2 indented menu entries for both Spindleclutch 1 and Spindleclutch 2, and everything else with quest tracking etc. stays the same.

That way you can see where a dungeon/raid belongs to and if you did the quest or not with a single glance.

The lists will get longer due to new entries, but it shouldn't be an issue, as right now the content headers already collapse/expand and thus hide the length of their entries.

Just to share, I used Quest Log addon but unfortunately its just a log or perhaps list of completed/uncompleted/missed/repeatable quests. As a player, I kinda miss the old journal like in the ES series, which we can go back and read what quests (even side quests) we have completed, their brief story, Tamriel date completed and their impact/consequences from what we choose (if let’s say there is an option of choosing)
Hi there!

So, I potentially could add side-quests in the future, but it's not on my immediate roadmap. I feel at the moment that other AddOns like Quest Log and Quest Map handle the listing and locating of side-quests well enough at the moment, but I won't rule it out.

If you're looking for something like an older-style quest journal, (as Myrthian suggested), I'd recommend looking into Harven's Quest Journal. I don't think its retroactive though, unfortunately. It would only track quests and times and conversations for quests going forward.
