Guild Research - See all of your guildies researched traits  Popular! (More than 5000 hits)
Version: 1.5.0.1
by: Ethelsia [More]
Guild Research AddOn Description

Guild Research is a combination of an ESO AddOn and a separate windows application. It will show all participating guildies researched traits, their known crafting styles as well as their crafting levels.

Hovering over the green fields will show all guildies which have already researched this trait. You can also select a guildies name from the dropdownbox and filter on the name. Since v1.3. fields containing your own username are colored dark green, so you can immediatly spot your own researched traits.

Screenshot of the external software

Also while ingame you can use (for ingame info without beeing at a crafting table, there are other addons out there already which do this too):

/grs ((shows all keywords))
/grs keyword ((shows all researched traits for the keyword))
example:

As ESO AddOn's are not allowed to talk to the outside world - this ESO AddOn saves all researched traits into a settings file. With the separate application you can then upload your data to a guild FTP or a shared folder (Dropbox) and also see the results of all uploads.

Starting the software will automatically install the AddOn in the ESO AddOn Folder.

Someone will need to prepare this for your guild:

Someone needs to have an FTP for the guild or share a local Dropbox folder (needs Dropbox desktop application). The Guild Research application is going to upload/download the saved traits data to an FTP or Dropbox. Either create a new directory on your FTP and create a new FTP account which has only access to that new directory or create a new local dropbox folder you can then share to guildmates. IMPORTANT FOR FTP: Create a Subfolder in that FTP share called: GuildResearch.

FTP: You need to fill in the GruildResearch.ini file which must reside in the same directory as the application for use with FTP. You'll need to fill in the ftp hostname, username and password. Since v1.3. the ini file will be automatically encrypted when you upload data successfully for the first time with an unencrypted ini file. You can then give the encrypted ini file to your guildies.

Dropbox: The ini file is not needed. Start the software and locate the new folder button in the upper right corner.

Prerequisites for the external app is Microsoft .NET 4.0 or later.

FTP Installation Instructions

1. Create an FTP share with a FTP account having only access to that share

2. IMPORTANT: CREATE A SUBFOLDER WITHIN THAT SHARE CALLED: GuildResearch

3. Fill in server hostname, ftp username and ftp password in the GuildResearch.ini file (provided in download)

4. Start the Software. This will install the AddOn

5. Logon to ESO and quit again OR type /reloadui. This will generate the datafile.

6. Click the refresh database button in the software's top left corner. This will upload and then download the data from the ftp server. Upon upload success, the ini file will be encrypted.

7. Open the ini file in notepad and check if its encrypted (before you give it out)

8. You can now give the software together with your encrypted ini file to guilmates for them to share their traits data.

Dropbox Installation Instructions

1. Create a new subfolder within your local Dropbox folder (needs Dropbox desktop application)

2. Start the Software. This will install the AddOn.

3. Locate the folder button in the top right corner area. Click it and choose the Dropbox subfolder you created in step 1

4. Logon to ESO and quit again OR type /reloadui. This will generate the datafile.

5. Click the refresh data button in the software's top left corner. This will then copy your data file to the dropbox folder. Your data should show within the grid now. If not, click refresh again.

7. You can now invite people to join your shared Dropbox subfolder. Anyone who wants to join also needs the Dropbox desktop application.

8. Invited people only need to click the folder button and point to the shared folder.

Cheers

Shoutouts to Nachtrabe from esomaps.de and his guildmates, to InvalidArg and his guildmates from the East Empire Company guild for new ideas and testing and my lovely guildmates from the Elders Guild for feedback and testing as well! And to Elesar for reporting the item type renaming in the Crag patch!
Versioning/News

1.5.0.1

- Adjusted for Update 5 outdated message (no code change)

1.5.0.0

- Added Nirnhoned Trait
- Fixed printing & export to PDF

1.4.6.2

- Adjusted for Update 4 outdated message (no code change)

1.4.6.1

- Fixed typo/error in german language. This typo prevents the AddOn from recording the single handed Axe traits, sorry! If you are playing the game in english or french you do NOT need this update.

1.4.6.0

- Raised API level in Add-On so you won't get an outdated message
- Some item category names changed in german language

1.4.5.0

- Added permanent username save and added user interface feature to change the username. It is saved in c:\users\<yourusername>\my documents\Elder Scrolls Online\<location>\SavedVariables\GuildResearchAccountName.lua. It will still give precedence to GetDisplayName once Zeni fixes the bug

1.4.4.0

- Zeni managed to rename the light robe again in the API with game version 1.2.3 without me noticing it, sorry and thanks to Billroth for reporting/finding that out!

- Display bug fixed

1.4.3.0

- If you have both "live" and "liveeu" folders (US and EU) GuildResearch will ask you at each start
which one you want to use. It will install the Add-On in both tho. The choice only affects the data file
which is taken for upload.

- Since the latest game patch 1.2.3 Zenimax is no longer supplying the username to be saved. A bug.
This version of GuildResearch will ask for your username if it can not be found in your saved datafile.
Existing users are good and don't need to do anything. New users will get a prompt at application start
to enter their username as in "@MyUserName".

- Updated Add-On version to run without "allow outdated addons"

- Known Display-Bug: Application shows wrong version in window header line but it is actually the new version

1.4.2.0

- Some traits were no longer reported in all languages as Zeni changed the item type name. Fixed.

1.4.1.0

- Raised API level in Add-On so you won't get an outdated message
- Added missing dll's for printing. Needs optimising still, will be fully functional in next version

1.4.0.0

- New Grid design to get more space, moving traits to left side
- Including crafting styles and crafting levels (right side)
- Including toggle switch to switch between account view and per character view
- Support to store/share data in a local folder to use it either for yourself only or share your local folder to guildies via dropbox software as alternative to ftp
- fixing charname/itemname bug

- Known Bug: Printing does not work. Will be fixed in the next major version (1.5.0.0)

1.3.1.0

- Bug fixed, the Addon was installed in the wrong directory for US installations
- Bug fixed, the ini file did not get encrypted at all

1.3.0.0

- Software translated to DE/FR. Language switching button added.

- Fields containing your own username will be colored dark green, so you no longer have to filter on your own name to see your researched traits.

- Data is no longer downloaded automatically upon software start. Instead cached data is used. removed message box with upload yes/no questions on startup.

- Remove download button. Added refresh button which will upload AND then download all data.

- After the first upload of data with an plain text ini file, the ini file is encrypted. You can then give the encrypted version of your ini file to guildmates along with the software.

- Added a timestamp in the top menu bar with date/time when you have last refreshed the data.

1.2.0.0 First update, adding german and french client support as well as a crafting set filter

Is there anything you can do to help resolve this problem?
Thanks for your feedback! Will look into it.

That may be why I could never get the ice staff to display in the application. I hadn't taken the time to look into why it wasn't saving.

The part that I had working with the command was chat log output of what was found. Useful for debugging but if it wasn't ever saving to file not so great.

No worries and thanks for the update!

Also, as a feature request:
Could you add a /command along the lines of /grsupdate with a bit of chat log output saying that the update is complete? I have done this in my local copy for debugging purposes, and it works lovely.
Not sure if that is any help as the data is only saved to file when you log-off or type /reloadui. To my knowledge there is no command to force a file save from in-memory data, this happens only at log-off or /reloadui. Did I miss a command? Thanks again for reporting and happy gameing

Thank you very much Elesar! Since the last release I haven't been able to do any add-on work due to "RL" workload Thanks so much for reporting this, I'll look into it on the weekend and post a new version asap with fixes!

cheers

I'll see what I can do as I have to modify it - I'm using parts which are not open source and I'm not allowed to distribute them, namely the graphcis (I got a license from iconshock.com) and also some libararies www.devexpress.com and limilabs ftp, which includes a unencrypted limilabs license in the source.

Sorry for that, will fix in next version - I think it's barely used anyway.

Upcoming Version 1.4 preview

Greetings all!

Sneak preview on 1.4, possibly releasing in 2-4 days, aiming for weekend.

Future plans:
- Add learned crafting skills/perks
- Possible Mac port (altough prefering a web php port which would replace this software and be accessible for both win and mac ofc)
- Recipes (not sure this is possible with the current ESO lua)

- Your wish? Ideas?

Cheers
Sia

I've tried updating the .exe and refreshing the data from the server... but no luck. Please advise.

Rat.
Thank you very much for the feedback. I've seen this bug, but then it would be for all users, and not just some. It has to do with someone having a character name which contains a keyword from crafting (for example like having the word "shield" in the charactername). I'm going to fix this in the next version - but if it is that bug, then everyone in your guild should see it, and not just you - can you check with your guildies please if everyone sees this bug? And are you using the same version of the software as those not seeing the bug?

I'll post in your forum when a testversion is available for the next release and I send your GM InvalidArg a testversion then (probably next weekend).

Thanks!
Sia
