BugCatcher Updated  Popular! (More than 5000 hits)
Version: 031
by: Shadowfen [More]
An updated version of Werewolf Finds Dragon's Bugcatcher addon which has had the common embedded libraries removed so it now requires that LibAddonMenu-2.0 be separately installed.

It has also been changed to address sirinsidiator's concern about firing the "LAM-RefreshPanel" callback too often.

(The utility files including the lua .exe and dll files have been removed, because they are available from the original version - and elsewhere online - and I personally don't like pulling down opaque executables anyway.)

The original addon BugCatcher by Werewolf Finds Dragon
031:
  • API bump.

030:
  • API bump (Necrom).

029:
  • API bump (Scribes of Fate).

028:
  • API bump (Firesong).

027:
  • API bump (High Isle).

026:
  • API bump.

025:
  • API bump.
  • Require minimum version of installed LibAddonMenu to be at least 32. Earlier versions will break the user interface.

024:
  • API bump - Waking Flame.

023:
  • API bump - Blackwood.

022:
  • API bump.

021:
  • Added a /bugs chat command to open up the BugCatcher settings page. (requested by MycroftJr)
  • API bump.

020:
  • API bump preparing for Stonethorn.

019:
  • API bump preparing for Greymoor.
  • Removed a commented-out reference to a file from BugCatcher.txt.
  • Created a CHANGELOG. Filled out info about the previous change retroactively.

018:
Created a patched version of Werewolf Finds Dragon's BugCatcher addon for Harrowstorm.
  • Breaking Change Removed the common embedded libraries so it now requires that the LibAddonMenu-2.0 addon be installed separately.
  • It has also been changed to address sirinsidiator's concern about firing the "LAM-RefreshPanel" callback too often.
  • The utility files including the lua .exe and dll files have been removed, because they are available from the original version - and elsewhere online - and I personally don't like pulling down opaque executables anyway.

Versions prior to this were released with the original BugCatcher addon by Werewolf Finds Dragon

Look for LibAddonMenu addon on ESOUI.

I noticed Bug Catcher telling me it had "Caught a bug (1 in total) in my chat window and attempted to open but viewer by hitting escape and clicking on the Bug Catcher icon. Bug Catcher informed me that it had now caught 2 bugs, but will not open the error text viewing window.

Digging into my interface.log file in <docs>\Elder Scrolls Online\live\Logs, I see the following error at the bottom:

Lua Code:
  1. |cff0000Lua Error: /EsoUI/Libraries/ZO_Templates/ScrollTemplates.lua:770: attempt to index a nil value
  2. stack traceback:
  3. /EsoUI/Libraries/ZO_Templates/ScrollTemplates.lua:770: in function 'AreSelectionsEnabled'
  4. /EsoUI/Libraries/ZO_Templates/ScrollTemplates.lua:1544: in function 'ZO_ScrollList_SelectData'
  5. <Locals> data = [table:1]{name = "BugCatcher", filterText = "bugcatcher werewolf finds drag..."} </Locals>
  6. user:/AddOns/LibAddonMenu-2.0/LibAddonMenu-2.0.lua:769: in function 'lam:OpenToPanel'
  7. <Locals> self = [table:2]{}, panel = ud, selectedData = [table:1] </Locals>

No. In fact installing the Updated version on top of the original version is likely to cause it to not work. One of the reasons that an update was needed is because the original version included a long out-of-date (and no longer working) version of the LibAddonMenu library. That library had to be removed.

Also, if that library is installed inside of any other addon (other than the LibAddonMenu itself of course), then it is probably out-of-date and broken and can cause problems with any of the addons you have installed.

BugCatcher does not throw away errors any more than LibDebug does. It prevents the announcement center screen that always seems to pop up just when you are trying to take down some boss solo, but the bugs are able to be referenced by looking at the bugs caught in the addon settings. They can also be cleared after the user has viewed them (or not viewed them - I don't control that). If people are not going to go view the bugs that have been caught, I doubt that they will ever report them anyway.

When you get savevars files in the megabytes , you will probably have a problem. If a single file is that large, then it is easy to see I suspect (but have not tested) that a large enough aggregate size (for all addons) may also be prone to problem.

This error indicates that you have been disconnected from the megaserver. Check the Service Alerts page to see if ESO is experiencing an outage or going through maintenance. If ESO is experiencing and outtage or undergoing maintenance, you will have to wait until the servers are restored to log in.
But, you should also check (or at least clear) all of the bugs that are caught monthly (or weekly if it catches lots of bugs). There is a limit on how large a mass of data can be loaded in when the game (and addons) start up. If you never clear out the list of bugs caught, you will eventually go over the limit and will timeout loading data while trying to log in. (You should look at the bugs that it is catching to see which addons they are coming from and either update or remove the failing addons. Your game will become more stable that way.)

This applies to other addons which save large amounts of data as well. Some addons are designed to have a much larger dataset than others can handle - Master Merchant, and Destinations come to mind. Most addons however do not attempt to store databases of stuff and will fail if the dataset gets too large.

Thanks for taking this over. I had been using the original for years but it was terminally broken for me and making it nearly impossible to login since Greymoor. So nice to have it back.
