Version: 3.0.6
by: silvereyes [More]
PSA: silvereyes is no longer playing ESO, so this addon is looking for a new maintainer. Please reach out to Dolby via PM if you want to take ownership of this addon.

Automatically starts researching traits when at a craft station.

When paired with the Research Craft addon, you can to craft a bunch of research gear to store in your bags/bank, and then have your character automatically research the next item from the stockpile according to your configured priorities.

Dependencies

You must install the following libraries separately from this addon in order for it to work. I highly recommend using the Minion addon manager to simplify this process.

Use Cases
  • New players that want to store a bunch of research gear at once in the bank up front so they don't have to go find/buy/request new gear every few hours.
  • Storing a ton of research gear in your writ alts' bags so you don't have to manage their research manually.
  • Established crafters that haven't finished research, but tend to forget about it due to the long research times can store 10 or so research items in the bank so they don't have to worry about managing research for several months.

Configuration

The only gear used currently are the following:
  • No items locked with in-game lock
  • No items locked with FCO Item Saver (v1.0+ required)
  • Items marked for research with FCO Item Saver (v1.0+ required)
  • Quality less than or equal to the maximum configured quality. Default is blue quality (arcane).
  • Style is one of the configured allowed styles. By default, these include the racial styles plus Ancient Elf, Barbaric and Primal. You can either choose these in settings, or use the Auto Research right click menu to enable the checkbox for the style to allow it.
  • Non-set equipment, or sets that have been specifically selected. LibSets is required for selecting sets. Once enabled in settings, you can either choose a set manually in settings, or use the Auto Research right click menu to enable the checkbox for the set to allow it.
  • Only equip slots (e.g. Helm, Cuirass, etc.) that have been assigned a priority under the desired trait line (e.g. Blacksmithing) will be researched, in the priority configured. Equip slots set to (none) will not be researched.

Equipment pieces are selected for research based on fastest research times. For example, if you have all clothing pieces 8 trait researched *except* for medium armor helmets that have 7 traits, then medium armor helmets will be given preference over any other clothing pieces.

Trait research order is customizable under Settings > Addons > Auto Research, with 1 being the highest priority, and 9 being the lowest.

All else being equal, gear in the current player inventory is given preference over gear in the bank, lower quality items are preferred over higher quality ones, and lower level items are preferred over higher level items. You can also choose to select gear from just the current player inventory or just the player bank.

Auto Research is currently backwards compatible with older versions of FCO ItemSaver. It doesn't use the newer FCOIS API functions for lock detection.

That said, support for "Mark for Research" flags, coming in the next version of Auto Research, will NOT be backwards compatible, so you will need to update FCO ItemSaver to version 3.0 once updating to the next (unreleased) version in order to enjoy that new feature.

Thanks in advance, also do love your addons.
I'll look into a setting for turning off bank or backpack in the future.

A configurable order is already on my TODO list. I'm not planning to implement a preset order like the one you linked, just because switching orders for those that have already started would probably frustrate anyone that has already started research on the old top-down order.

Ask, and ye shall receive. Version 1.5.0 now supports configurable trait research order.

The latest version now allows you to turn off selecting items from the bank entirely.

Thanks in advance.
FCOIS "mark for research" flags are now supported and allow researching set gear.

Love the new patch to the mod, but for some odd reason it is not auto firing when I use a Blacksmith anvil or Clothing table.

I have attempted relogging and reloading the UI, and the items are in my bag and not locked.

** I did figure out the issue. I had them marked for research with FCO Itemsaver and that seems to have kept them form being researched by Auto Research.

Hope this helps!

Also, just wanted to add that even though I have Prosperous as #8 on my list and Divines as #1, when I got it to work it researched Prosperous for both Light and Heavy and skipped about 9 pieces of Divines it could have researched

You are absolutely right. There was a bug with the "marked for research" feature. It should be fixed now in version 1.5.1.

There are a couple things that could explain this.

First - and this is something I want to fix - if you have multiple armor skill lines with the same research duration (e.g. number of already researched traits), they are first selected in order from left to right. Trait order isn't taken into account until *after* the skill line (e.g. head, shoulders, belt, etc.) is selected. So it's possible you can have an divines belt and a prosperous jerkin in your inventory, and the prosperous piece will get selected first, just because it's on the left. I plan to fix that in a minor patch soon.

Another thing that can cause this behavior is that preference is always given to shorter research times. For instance, if you had 4 traits researched on light sashes and only a prosperous sash available - but all other light pieces had 5 traits researched already and a bunch of divines pieces in your inventory ready to be researched - then the prosperous belt would be given precedence over the other divines pieces because the 4 trait skill line would be chosen before the 5 trait skill lines.

It can also be pretty confusing if you are using AI research grid to track traits, because sometimes it needs a /reloadui or relog in order to show the traits you just finished researching.

I got a problem... I installed your addon just a few minutes ago and wanted to configure the research order, but under "Settings > Addons" there is no entry called "Auto Research". I then tried just to open the bench without changing the settings and nothing happened. The addon itself is marked to load in the menu and is not marked as "outdated". I get no error message and the things in my bag meet all the requirements to be researched... Am I doing something wrong? I'm using the german client...

EDIT: Ok, I found the reason: I installed it with Minion and the directory was called "AutoResearch-1.6.0". After manually renaming the directory to "AutoResearch" the addon worked

One request: Could you please add more options? I personally don't care if the item to be researched is part of a set or a purple item etc. Maybe you can add options like:

Research up to quality: Grey, White, Green etc.
Research sets: Yes, No
etc.

Is there a way to get Auto Research to do armor before weapons? I tried setting priorities for weapons still needed lower then armor still needed but didnt matter still selected a weapon with lower priority (higher number) then armor with higher priority (lower number).

It does select in order #1, #2, #3, etc right?

PS: awesome addon btw, wish I had it months ago when started crafting, would of saved me lot of time and effort

Oops looks like there was an update today that might do want I'm asking, ill give it a try.

Whoops. Sorry about that. It should be fixed now.

You can manually choose set items to research by using FCO Item Saver's Reserve research flag. This flag is given priority over item quality or sets.

Max item quality is definitely something I can put in as a configurable setting.

Sets, though... that seems like it's too dangerous. Addon settings are easy to toggle without understanding the danger. When the feature you thought was great unexpectedly destroys that sharpened sword or staff you spent a year grinding out, the feature will immediately become a bug.

For now, just mark the individual items you want to save for research with FCO item Saver.

Today's update fixes that quirk. It now gives priority to the gear with the lowest number trait you've configured, regardless of whether it's armor or a weapon. However, in case of a tie, weapons still win, just because they are on the left. I'll consider making this configurable in the future.

I think I prefer researching some things manually then ^^ Because for this to work automatically I would have to install 2 additional addons (FCOIS and Research Assistant) and I already use 30+ addons... Don't need 2 more only for researching

Great addon anyway, keep it up
