Workaround for Encounter Log Crashes
Version: 1.1.0
by: code65536 [More]
NOTE: This is only a temporary workaround, not a fix. This addon should be removed once ZOS fixes the crash bug.

2022/12/05: The crash bug should be fixed, so this addon is now obsolete; the addon will now display an in-game message asking the user to uninstall it.

This addon works around the Encounter Log crash bug by automatically disabling job threads when the user attempts to start a log.

This addon should work with both manual logging with the "/encounterlog" chat command and with addons that automatically start logs (I've personally tested this with Easy Stalking, and I expect that will probably work with others as well).

This addon will also prompt the user to re-enable job threads if they are done with logging.

An issue and also a fix.

I found that after using this addon, my framerate dropped significantly from ~100 to ~40 FPS. Closing the game, restarting my computer, uninstalling the addon and combinations of those steps did not fix it.

I managed to fix it with these steps in order though:

1. Install the addon (Workaround for Encounter Log Crashes), I used Minion Mod Manager.
2. Type /reloadui into the ESO chatbox
3. After the loading screen type /restorejobs into the chatbox again
4. Escape key → Addons → Disable the "Workaround for Encounter Log Crashes" addon
5. Uninstall the addon with Minion Mod Manager (probably not necessary but just to be sure)
6. Type /reloadui into the ESO chatbox

After this my framerate went back to normal, I think it has something to do with the setting the addon changes not reverting back it's default option but I don't know. I can reproduce this bug, I also play the game with multithreading enabled.

Running the game on an Nvidia 2080, Ryzen 3600 with 16GB of RAM.

Mostly, yes.

The biggest problem that I had noticed with leaving it off is that the game will sometimes hang and require a force-close when rezoning or logging off. This doesn't happen that often--I left it off for a whole day and it happened about once every ten rezones.

The other effect is a degradation of performance, but this effect seems to be YMMV--some people report seeing a significant drop in performance, while some report a negligible impact.

I would recommend re-enabling them if you are no longer logging and have restarted the game (if you've used the encounter log and then try to restore the job threads without first restarting, it will likely result in a crash), but if that's too much hassle, leaving it off, while not ideal, isn't terrible.
