Votan's Rune Tooltips  Popular! (More than 5000 hits)
Version: 1.4.7
by: votan [More]
DependenciesDescription
This add-on adds the following information to the tool-tips of runestones:
  • For potency runes the level of the resulting glyph
  • For essence runes the type of the resulting glyph, respectively the types of the positive and negative power
This add-on can be used as an addition to Quick Enchanter or an alternative for non-enchanters.
You can choose whether Quick Enchanter or Rune Info shows the level of glyphs by enabling or disabling the setting in Quick Enchanter.

If you feel dissatisfied with the second main menu entry for "Addons", take a look at Harven's AS to LAM adapter.

Beschreibung

Revealing Info

Here's a heads up (for both the author Zotan, and for anyone who's Lua savvy). If you add "and known" before "then" to lines 126 and 129 (the conditions that determine if the extra info is added or not), then the information regarding potency and essences runes will only show if you've used that rune once.

I looked into it, because I prefer learning my runes the hard way first, and then having the extra info for every subsequent enchantment.

The addition to each tooltip would be most useful if the first word that will be in the name of the Glyph is included, and whether it is for armor, weapons or jewelry. For example: "Trifilng armor glyph (level 1 - 9)" or "Slight glyph for weapon (level 5 - 15)". As far as I know, only armor, weapons and jewelry can be enchanted.

Good point.
The potency runes defining the level, but do not specify whether it will be weapon/armor or jewelry. Essence runes defining whether it will be weapon/armor or jewelry (regen is jewelry, health and so on is armor, ...), but do not specify the level.
The sentence, you what to see it, is not that easy (maybe even impossible). I check what I can do.

I don't even understand the point of this request honestly. This addon is adding informations to runes, there are addons that add informations to glyphs in any way imaginable already.

Moreover, the shape/color of the glyph is enough to tell if it's for weapon or armor or jewelery.
Well I suppose it can help if you wanna do this anyway.

for the name of the glyph on the potency rune, it can help with writs though
would be fun to show the needed runes on the glyph tooltips to know which one to deconstruct to get runes too.

I had to read the text more than once, too.
I understand, that it is "nicer" to have a info line like "Creates a moderate glyph (level ..." instead of "For items from level ...".
But if this means I have to maintain my own localization strings (for slight, trifiling and so on), I don't know if it is worth the effort.
I personally don't care how the glyph is called as long as I know it is the right level.

yeah thats why i made my filter addon, was the lazy way and it helped me reduce the odds of not crafting the right level glyph when I didn't have the translations (needed to make wandalize work as i have to be able to slot the runes for that...). Which is once/skill level up. not really Worth the effort.

But i'm looking at it, a more elegant way would be to scan bags at startup or on bag opening (please no SLOT UPDATE event or i'll have to be even more carefull with the guards) and simulate a craft if 3 types of runes are found in the bags. Then strip the glyph name to build a table with localized names.

That would require to find the potency runes at least once/rune lvl to add the info though.
Edit : and i doubled check, it requires the runes to be known to get the glyph link too
Yet the good point of this would be to be able to get the infos account wide and not spoil the noob feeling when you have to find out things by yourself the first time.

Ah, I wasn't aware of that. Thank-you for your reply.

However, it seems feasible to add the word that will start the name of a Glyph to the tooltip for each Potency rune, which currently just specifies the level of the items for which they are used. Then also add to the tooltip for each Essence rune whether the Glyph made with it will be for armor, weapon, or jewelry -- I am assuming that each Essence rune applies to just one of the three, of course.

The reason for my request is that Enchanting Crafting Writs specify the Glyph(s) by name, such as Petty Glyph of Health. In that case, I knew that the Essence rune Oko is for Health, but not which Potency Rune is for Petty. (Okay, I've since found out that it is Jera, none of which I have had in my possession for a while, and I don't know whether it will ever show up in Deshaan or Shadowfen -- I might have to send my avatar back to Stonefalls to search for it.)

That said, so far, I don't have enough experience and information about Enchanting to know, obviously, how it all works. Please forgive me if I make suggestions that don't make any sense to other users.

I should have been less subtile in the way i introduced some addon that might have helped you with this, sry.

Merlin the Enchanter
To select your skill level (aka writ level)
(this one will select the right runes with a single click for your writs, but it requires this addon too : Khrills Crafting Postit )
it requires to have learn the runes in game though, read my previous comments to know why it's difficult to get the glyph names if you're interested on the subject.
Quick Enchanter
Merlight Writ Filters wont help to craft but will help to see if it's the right one

and essence runes will be either for weapon/armor/jewels (2 of them) depending on what potency rune they are associated to (plus or minus effect) and these info are already added to votan's rune info so... thats why i didn't see the point. No offense.

Lightbulb suggestion

Can you make resulting glyth tooltips for unknow essence runes optional? Kind of breaks my role-playing. I know exact translation of every rune without even discovering it .

Hey Votan, thank you for the lovely addon!

Would it be possible to add the tier of created glyph's name to Potency runestones?

For example, a Level 30 runestone like Edora or Pojode always create "Moderate Glyph of X". So on the tooltip, it could say "Minimum Level: 30 (Moderate)".

Thoughts?

Well, requested some time before and still not easy/a lot effort for such small addition. See comments.
