AlphaGear Lives  Popular! (More than 5000 hits)
Version: 5.00
by: Lohengramm82 [More]
UPDATE: I don't play ESO any more, love the game, might again in the future, but as of right now this is not being maintained. Others have asked if they can take over and I hope they do!

I do not take credit for the creation of this mod, all credit goes to AlphaLemming who originally created and maintained AlphaGear up until June 2016, at which point it stopped receiving updates for 2 consecutive API updates.

That being said, I am a professional programmer and am going to try to do more than just update the API version number going forward. Please submit bug reports to this AddOn page and I will try to fix them, and I may even be able to implement new features at some point if I have the time.

What Is AlphaGear?

AlphaGear lets you create up to 16 sets of gear that may be equipped with a single button press. You can assign each set to a different key on your keyboard for easy swapping when out of combat. This is not the same as regular in-game weapon swapping as it allows you to swap both of your weapons, both of their skill bars and your entire armor set at the same time! Fantastic!

I just started playing ESO in November of 2016, and out of all the AddOns I downloaded AlphaGear was my favorite by far, despite being nearly half a year outdated. I've tried other gear set solutions and in my limited experience they're just not as good for a variety of reasons, but I'm not going to start bad talking other mod authors by getting specific

Usage Tips
  • Bind your number pad to gear sets if you aren't using it already because they are not considered the same as your number row keys by ESO
  • Create 2 (or more) sets with the same equipment, but different skill bars to create situational skill setups (solo, group, etc...)
  • Create a radial menu using Big Picture mode with your Steam or Dual Shock 4 controller (Steam beta) to make swapping gear sets a breeze! Combine this with my first tip and set your radial menu buttons to num1, num2, etc...
Found a Bug?

Tell me! I'm going to try to keep this thing working going forward for as long as I play ESO, if only because I intend to use it extensively! I will take all bug reports seriously and attempt to fix them, though it may take a while for me to figure them out since I didn't write this (or any other...) AddOn.

Version 5.00 Notes
  • Updated the APIVersion number so that ESO would no longer consider it an "out of date" AddOn
  • Started adding comments to the functions created by AlphaLemming
  • No functional changes from version 4.08, report some bugs and I'll get to fixing them

lovely thanks for taking over this addon
i would have a request, could you move all the options for this addon into the Addon Settings menu using LibAddonMenu?
And i also have found i bug i believe: if you want the auto-recharge of weapons you have to have the UI element of repair cost enabled otherwise the auto-recharge doesnt work.
best regards

Oh boy Looks like I've got some work to do already!

I'm actually interested in releasing an AlphaGear Lite version at some point as well that strips out everything that isn't the set swapping functionality so that people who want minimalist mods or to use other mods for those extra features can do so.

Saved

Truly awesome news! Somebody has saved AlphaGear they said. Thanks does not hack it, but thanks for doing this. I cannot live without AlphaGear and CraftStore. Now they are both saved!

\o/ \o/ \o/ \o/ \o/ illumination! (<<Minion fans )

I would also urge you to investigate LibAddonMenu and the introduction of the costume slot.

Bugs to report: None

I also dabble in code, having retired from IT some 16 years now, and mused on adding a 'what if' dialog based on what changes dropped and crafted sets might make to my builds. Not really AlphaGear, more a separate addon.

Did I say thanks yet? Just in case I didn't Many thanks!

This!

Maybe check out http://www.esoui.com/downloads/info1514-Masquerade.html I love how it saves more than just costume, but it would be even better to have one click for gear, costume, hairstyle

Great news!!

Hey,

this is great news!! I didnt try it yet, but I will as alphagear is one of my most used addons.

There are two things on my wishlist - since it's almost xmas:

1) A minor bug at the original alphagear to be fixed: The original Alphagear sometimes got confused with multiple similar items. I.e. when you use set 1) dagger of willpower + dagger of willpower and set 2) dagger of willpower and dagger of somethingelse. Using the "Insert gear into slot"-option for saving and switching from set 2 to set 1 could result in a "error: dagger of willpower not found". I found out that even when both daggers looked identically, the item id was different and the addon got confused when storing the gears. My workaround for this: Drag and drop each of those "double items" directly into all slots where needed.

2) A plea for extention of the skillbar-slots, from 16 to at least 32 or more. At least i assume you didnt change it yet? There are 16 slots for gearsets, skillbars and set-combinations. But while both weapons are stored in one gearset, you need 2 skillbar-slots to store both skillbars you use. For my mag-sorc it is even worse, as i use one gearset for 4 or even 6 skillbar-slots (solo, pve, pvp, ...). Right now, I use around 8 gearslots, 10 combination-slots and _could_ use 40-50 skillbar-slots

But thats only my wishlist - i am glad you took up the challenge and continue that addon!!

br,
Norfolk

Would you ever consider making an overload bar?

Hey, amazing addon! I was just wondering if you had any plans or would consider making an overload bar for sorcs. I can't find any addon that does this. Thanks!

I second SRIBES's suggestion about overload bar.

Additionally it would be awesome to add poison slots to the item sets.

Thank you for taking over this addon.

Bug: Sometimes when Alphagear freezes my game sometimes when I try to swap gear/skills. Sometimes it unfreezes and other times it crashes to desktop.

Suggestion1: Allow for a greater number of skill and gear sets.

Suggestion2: Allow Alphagear to interact with your bank, if you have it open, so that you can pull gearsets directly out of the bank.

Thanks for this! Masquerade is awesome, but over the top for me. I always use one specific costume with a specific armour, otherwise just wear armour or just the same costume, so its just a click of the quickslot I am saving if this was in Alphagear.

I thought about this. I tend to leave it alone as there is a reduced range of stuff that works on there, BUT it would be good for those of us who play without that ult at all (mage tank/mage healer), and then want to swap to different style of play that needs it (dps).

Still basking in the joy of a revived Alphagear!

Hello

That addon is nothing but a must !

Another suggestion : link equipement set to a role (DPS/Tank/Heal) and a type of game (PVP / PVE)
with that done, the addon would be able to display a warning while in pve zone with a pvp gear or the opposite.

What ? You never came back from Cirodiil to do your dailies pledges and realize after all you forgot to switch your gear ?

Hi,

The only annoying thing for me is the white box at the bottom right of the screen. You can make it go away by enabling/disabling one of the settings but it comes back. Someone posted previously in the AlphaGear comments that he found an uninitialised var and thought this may be the prob.

(I'm just glad this is being supported now)

2 other minor things that could help is;
When you glyph out an item differently or improve it the database still recogises it correctly as the same item but does not update the icon/tooltip in the gear set. I need to remember to overwite the set with "currently equipped". As I said, this is minor.
The other point is, I now have 8 playable chars with multiple sets on each and to help me as I swap chars, I use the dye station to colour code the sets so I have an idea of what is being worn. My thought is to have an option to display the current selected set name above(or below) the set selector block on the screen.

Anyway, thanks again for taking over this great addon.
