Code's Combat Alerts  Popular! (More than 5000 hits)
Version: 2.0.15
by: code65536 [More]
Code's Combat Alerts provides notifications and alerts for a selection of mechanics in dungeons, trials, and arenas.

What new in version 2?

Version 2 of Code's Combat Alerts is essentially a rewrite and overhaul of the addon, but one that should be mostly transparent to the user.

This overhaul will make CCA2 easier to maintain and update, easier for other addons to extend, and it opens the way for new features in the future. Robust support for the latest trial, Lucent Citadel, was made possible by the foundational improvements in CCA2.

The CCA2 overhaul is an ongoing process, in which some content is still supported under the legacy framework and some under the new framework. Over time, more of the addon will be migrated to the new framework. This will be a long-term undertaking.

Configuration

Perhaps the most noticeable change in CCA2 is the long-requested addition of an addon settings panel; the old chat commands will eventually all be replaced.

Repositioning UI elements

CCA2 offers more customization options, including the ability to reposition more UI elements (the repositioning of banner and timer alerts will be added in a future version, pending the overhaul of those subsystems).

The process of repositioning UI elements has also been improved to allow users to control how elements are anchored.

For example, when moving the Status Panel element around, you will probably see something like this:

Anchor Lines: What are these thick white lines?
In the image above, you'll see that the top and left edges have thick white lines. These represent how the UI element will be anchored to your screen.

In this case, it means that the top-left of the UI element is anchored to your selected position, and if the UI element needs to grow in size, that growth will be towards the bottom and right.
Can these anchor lines be changed?
Yes! Here's an example of the anchor lines being along the top and through the middle. This means if the UI element grows in height, it will expand downwards, but if it grows in width, it will expand to both the left and right, keeping the center anchored to the spot that you chose.

Each direction will have one of three anchors: top, middle, and bottom for vertical anchoring, and left, center, and right for horizontal anchoring.
How do I change how a UI element is anchored?
While dragging the UI element around with your mouse, just briefly touching the edge of the screen will cause that edge of the UI element to be set as the new anchor for that direction. You don't have to keep the UI element along the edge of the screen or even on that side of the screen: the gesture of touching the edge is just the way to change the anchor and it will remain that way until you change it again by touching a different edge.

Similarly, if you line up the middle of the UI element with the middle of the screen and hover in that position for one second, it will anchor along the middle. Again, you don't have to actually keep your UI element anywhere near the middle, once you've changed the anchor.

  • Version 2.0.9 (2024/07/02)

    • Added alert for Shockwave for the second boss in Lucent Citadel; this alert is visible only if the "Enable additional alerts" option is set
    • Added alert for the spawn-in of new mirrors for the second boss in Lucent Citadel; this alert is intended as a teaching tool and can be disabled in the settings for experienced groups

  • Version 2.0.0 (2024/06/01)
    • Code's Combat Alerts has been undergoing a major overhaul in recent weeks, and this overhaul has now progressed to a point that I feel like it's time to bump the version to 2.0; there is still much left to be done, as additional content is migrated from the legacy framework to the new CCA2
    • Migrated Halls of Fabrication to the new CCA2 framework, and added features from the legacy Halls of Fabrication Status Panel addon, which has now been fully retired

  • Version 1.18.10 (2024/05/29)
    • Improved support for Lucent Citadel

  • Version 1.18.9 (2024/05/26)
    • As the first step to retiring the legacy Purge Tracker addon, the tracking of purgeable effects has been added to Maw of Lorkhaj, using a UI similar to that of Purge Tracker
      • Unlike Purge Tracker, this UI will appear only when there are effects to purge and only if the player has an AoE purge ability slotted, thereby reducing unnecessary clutter
      • CCA2 will automatically suppress the legacy Purge Tracker addon in Maw of Lorkhaj and other areas that are added to the new system in the future

  • Version 1.18.8 (2024/05/24)

You posted an error message from Cloud Combat. This is a different, unrelated addon.

Thanks. That one's been there for several years now lol. I've localized it for 2.0.6.1.

That's intended. If a module needs to be version-gated, I'll define it at the start of the file (which I did for the U42 module during PTS, but that was removed when the patch went live); if it's undefined, then there doesn't need to be a version gate.

In any case, I consider it mostly a code aesthetic issue, whether I should omit that parameter entirely in the call when I don't need it, or keep a placeholder that resolves to nil serve as a reminder that the parameter exists.

But the more I hear myself justify it, the sillier it all sounds, since realistically the only time a module ever needs to be version-gated is for the PTS for that module's content. So I'm just going to omit that parameter entirely and use it only in the exceptional case of a module that's being developed during its content's PTS cycle.

Hello code,

There is a global "color" table leaking in file
Lua Code:
  1. legacy/CombatAlerts.lua
  2. +     2875 color

Also there might be a mix-up if you are using a script to set this in your module files, MIN_API_VERSION,
It doesn't seem to be defined anywhere.

That can happen after DSR gets migrated to the new framework, but I don't have an ETA for that.

All of the new UI elements are (and have always been) moveable by dragging them around with the mouse.

Before U42 goes live, there will be an option added to the settings panel to move these UI elements outside of combat when they are normally hidden.

As for /cca move, that only works for the legacy status panel and nothing else and will be deprecated. The new CCA2 does not use slash commands for anything.

This is likely a case of observational bias. Because CCA is currently undergoing a rewrite, this means that...
  • It is being updated much more frequently than usual.
  • Major changes in the structure of the addon means that a corrupted Minion install would be more likely to create serious errors, whereas when the changes were more modest, it would be more likely for corrupted updates to slip under the radar without raising serious errors.

So I think it is a case of Minion update problems being more noticeable due to the ongoing restructuring of the addon.

For what it's worth, when I asked the Minion author about it, his reply was
minion first tries to delete the folder and then extracts the new files. if you see old files, it means that some external source ("anti" virus) blocked the deletion and it then could only attempt to write the new files over the old ones, which can also get blocked partially or fully

This is caused by Minion failing to correctly update the addon and leaving it in a frankenstein state of old and new files.

You need to delete the addon's folder and reinstall. (Don't use Minion to uninstall, because whatever caused Minion to mess up the update can also cause it to mess up the uninstall.)
Thank you very much sir. I tried reinstalling, this makes sense then.
