Uncoffered: Is it worth it?
Version: 2.0.3
by: Complicative [More]
Description:

Want to fill your Undaunted or PvP shoulder collection? But don't know which coffer to buy for the best chances?
Uncoffered adds that info to your tooltip, on every shoulder coffer. Undaunted and Imperial City! (and more)

Features:
- Adds information on the expected cost of a new piece when viewing (formula further down):
- Undaunted Shoulder Coffers
- Imperial City Shoulder Coffers
- Cyrodiil Shoulder and Mask Coffers (Only how many pieces are collected from it, since there are no mystery or curated coffers)
- Infinite Archive Class Gear Coffers
- No Settings, No Dependencies!

Formula:
Expected cost is calculated like this:
Warning: Spoiler

GitHub

Check out my other add-ons as well!
v2.0.3)
- Switched from chance of opening x times a low cost coffer, to expected cost for a new piece. In most cases, the old formula ended up with the same conclusion on what to buy, but for closer cases, this formula answers the question much more precise and is maybe easier to understand.
- Rewrote the whole addon, so that adding more coffer types in the future will be easier (Did not expect ZOS to keep adding them when I initially wrote this)

v1.1.0)
- Added Cyrodiil Coffers (There are no mystery coffers, so it just shows the amount of pieces collected)

v1.0.5)
- Added Scribes of Fate Coffer

v1.0.4)
- Minor visual update
- Added SimpsForBreda's idea, but left it commented out. Check Addon Comments for more info.

v1.0.3)
-Added Lost Depths coffer

Ah yes, I see your point about the number always being lower... I didn't consider that. I guess it's just a matter of how much lower, but it seems to be a flat rate, more or less. Math isn't my strong suit...

That said, I uncommented the bit you added for me, and am enjoying the extra info!
Appreciate your accommodating my poorly-informed ask!

To get to your question, yeah I totally see what you mean, and your math on that is also correct.
There is a slight problem with it though. This probability you describe, will ALWAYS be lower than the one from just buying a straight up 5-key/20k Tel'Var coffer. As long as there are more big coffers than the factor of the cost difference (5 for Undaunted, 2 for IC), the chance can't be higher than from buying the big one.

With that said, yes the add-on is doing what it's intended to do. The intended use is to see which coffer gives the best chance for a new item. If you are looking for a specific item, the choice is always the big coffer. If you are looking for any new item, that is where this addon comes in handy.

If you still want to try it out, I've added that info in the update I'm about to upload (v1.0.4), but left it commented out. In the file Uncoffered.lua search for your name and uncomment the line below it.

If you got any more questions or ideas, feel free to write again. Have a nice day

I may just be reading the description with overly hopeful eyes, but it seems like the numbers displayed aren't quite what makes the most sense.
(the more I'm looking at things and writing out my reply, the more I'm thinking this is actually a straight-up enhancement request...but I'm going to continue nonetheless)

I'll try to explain better...

For example right now, I have 22/36 pieces collected for Maj, so I have a flat 91.48% chance of getting at least one new item with 5 keys. This makes sense.

However, I have 5/6 pieces collected for Wayrest Sewers. When I hover over the Wayrest coffer, it shows a 16.67% chance of getting the piece I need if I buy the 5 key coffer. This also makes sense.

Where I'm a little confused is that it also displays the 91.48% likelihood for the "Open 5x Maj's Mystery Coffer" on the 5 key coffer -- and this same number is displayed on all 5-key coffers, regardless of # of pieces unlocked

It seems like it would make more sense/be more useful if it instead showed the likelihood of getting one of the missing pieces for that specific 5-key coffer's set using 5x mystery coffers.

My last statistics course was years ago, so I'm struggling to come up with the changes to the formula to do this logic... if I can figure it out, I'll post the maths, but it's hurting my brain right now...

Anywho, I'm enjoying the add-on as-is, but I think it'd be more useful this way, if you can swing it!

//////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////

UPDATE: Might've figured out the logic! See below...

DISCLAIMER: haven't actually looked at your code, so I'm not sure what you can pull directly from API, and I may be getting at some of these numbers in an inefficient way...but that is the gist!

//////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////

UPDATE 2: Looking at code now, but having trouble following it completely, and I think there's some added complexity from "shoulders only"... if I can figure out how to hack in my logic, I'll post changes here, but I'm a Lua novice...

UPDATE: Might've figured out the logic! See below...

1 - ((tv-cc)/tv)^n

Where:
c - total collected shoulder pieces
cc - collected shoulder pieces from specific 5-key coffer
t - total shoulder pieces that can drop from the coffer
tv - total shoulder pieces available from all coffers at vendor
n - how many coffers will be opened

t-cc = number of missing shoulder pieces from 5-key coffer
tv-cc = total number of shoulder pieces that are NOT of interest

Example:
Maj's Mystery Coffer can drop a total of 36 shoulder pieces (12 sets).
Darkshade Caverns Coffer can drop a total of 6 shoulder pieces (2 sets).
4/6 shoulder pieces from Darkshade Caverns Coffer have been collected; therefore, 2 out of 36 shoulder pieces are actually of interest, and we don't care about 34.

That would give us the formula:
1 - (34/36)^5 = 0.2485 = 25%

DISCLAIMER: haven't actually looked at your code, so I'm not sure what you can pull directly from API, and I may be getting at some of these numbers in an inefficient way...but that is the gist!
