Rainbow Reticle  Popular! (More than 5000 hits)
Version: 1.7
by: calia1120 [More]
This add-on colors the reticle (cross-hairs) based on what it is pointing at, including hostile targets change it to red for example.

It also can optionally color the reticle when pointing at guild mates, friends (from friends list), and group members. Additionally it has options to display the level of the target, as well as the target's health current / maximum values and/or as a percentage.

It also ignores trivial "critters" that are not hostile and only level 1, so as to keep from being distracting.

Just a note, if someone is both on your friends list and in a guild with you, the guild color will override. I'm working on a preference setting for this, along with a color picker to set your own colors, along with some other things.

May be compatible with other reticle addons. Compatibility is confirmed for Combat Reticle, which is another addon that I am on the author team for.

Some history
Rainbow Reticle was originally created by Mitazaki, and was later continued by mctaylor with some help from Garkin for the Craglorn patch.

It's long been one of my favorite addons. With the changes to the game, it was much in need of an update. I hope you guys like it!
v1.7.0 (5/17/18)
* Updated API for Summerset (100023)
* Updated LAM to 2.0 r26

v1.6.0 (2/6/18)
* Updated API for Dragon Bones (100022)
* Updated LAM to 2.0 r25

v1.5.0 (6/10/17)
* Updated API for Morrowind (100019)

v1.4.1 (2/5/17)
* Fixed a small issue with other player names not showing when All setting turned on.

v1.4 (2/5/17)
* Cleaned up some functions, have eliminated the use of the manual critter list.
* Fixed an issue where the reticle was not properly changing colors when name display options were turned off.
* Updated options, now can also still show health values without name display. The health text is not coloring as it should when name display is off, but reticle color is changing properly. Testing some further options refinement per user requests.

v1.3 (1/2/17)
* Updated LibAddonMenu to 2.0 r23
* Updated reticleover functions for human players (Thanks Baertram!)

v1.2 (10/4/16)
* - Updated LibAddonMenu to 2.0 r22
* API updated, compatible with Shadows of The Hist (100016) and One Tamriel (100017)

v1.1 (7/14/16)
* - Updated LibAddonMenu to 2.0 r20
* API updated, compatible with both Dark Brotherhood (100015) and Shadows of The Hist (100016)
* Removed Veteran Rank functions, replaced with Champion Rank equivalents
* Partially updated the critter list - this is still a work in progress
* Changed up the settings menu a bit - have some new functionality in mind for this for a future version as well.

changing reticle or text color to something else?

I'm hoping this addon stays viable with updates, I find it quite useful.

The addon description says:
"It also can optionally color the reticle when pointing at guild mates, friends (from friends list), and group members."

Guild mates look like the same color as interact-able NPCs (green).

Has anyone tried to edit the color parameters in the lua file to make guild mates names/health appear 'purple', for example?

Thanks for any discussion.

Hello, out of curiosity, am I asking something stupid and I am missing some basic feature?

Thanks!

G'day. This is super-close to what I would like: color cursor based on reaction type, but ... I can't get the colors without turning the names on, as far as I can tell. If I disable them, it stays plain white...

Is this a feature request, or a bug?

Change color of HP

Hello, I love this addon, but there's a slight issue that I am having, on your screenshots, it shows the HP number and percentage in different colors, mine just stays white, sometimes it is hard to see white text during combat. Is there a fix for this?

It would be nice if the Reticle Color change but no Names/Level/Health are shown.

I've tested this a handful of different ways. Can you show me a screen clip of your settings and what the reticle is showing as well?

I've adjusted it so that names can be hidden and the reticle still colors properly. I've also adjusted it so health can be displayed without the name, but the health text is not coloring as it should (the reticle itself is changing properly though).

Part of it has to do with the All setting, it overrides a handful of other things, so I'm going to be breaking up the options menu a bit more as I have time.

I would also like to have the option to use the colors only. Right now the only way I can get the colors to show is to enable names, which I don't want to do.

Thanks for updating this!

Edit: I found a small workaround to hide the names for now, if anyone wants to use it. Use it at your own risk. Don't bother the addon author about it if it causes any errors or problems. Make a backup first.

1. Open RainbowReticle.lua with Notepad++.

2. Edit line 204 by changing false to true. This will hide the names even with them enabled in the options.

Find line 204, which looks like this:
Lua Code:
  1. RainbowReticleUnitName:SetHidden(false)
Then change line 204 to:
Lua Code:
  1. RainbowReticleUnitName:SetHidden(true)
