Zolan's Anchors Away  Popular! (More than 5000 hits)
Version: 1.6
by: zolan, Harven
It seems that ZOS is attempting to fix the problem that this addon was written to deal with it. I've decided to stop maintaining it. I'll leave it up as an educational addon for people to look at. In the mean time, if you still need something to block errors I highly recommend installing BugEater. It has a bigger scope but is a nice alternative.

What does it do?

This addon will silence the 'Too many anchors processed.' errors that pop up. It will not silence anything else.

These errors happens for 2 reasons and it is impossible to differentiate between the two. So read this list to know what you are getting into. Note: Anchors are a normal part of any UI code in this game.
  • Some unknown problem which 'seems' to be on ZO's side of the game where if the total sum of anchors you have across all of your addons exceeds a certain number, it throws this error. In this case, it is not a valid error and everything should continue to run properly. It is mainly just an annoyance and frequently the reason you get this error. This is why this addon was created.
  • There is a legitimate problem with an addon that is making too many anchors or possible a recursive anchor. This is an actual problem with one of your addons. Anchors Away will still silence the error even though it is a real error. If you have an addon that isn't working, go into the settings "Z's Anchors Away" and either disable the addon OR make sure the notifications are turned on. If you are getting these errors it is possible that the addon is broken.

What are the future plans?

This app does what I want it to. It was intended to be simple and do its job well, which I think it does.

Known Issues:

No known issues as of version 1.3. Version 1.1 and 1.2 were jacked up though.

How To Donate To Zolan

I don't really need or want money for my addons, but if you are truly thankful and want to show your appreciation, here are a few things you can do.

Thank Him

I enjoy knowing that people are using my addons and that they like them. You can drop me a line on esoui.com or in-game. On US servers I am @zolannaloz

Give Him Some Gold

Though I truly like a good thank you, another super duper awesome idea is sending me a donation of in-game gold. While I work on my addons, I don't get to play the game at all. So I am doing this work to make everyone's lives a bit better and in return I don't get to play the game. I DO gain some enjoyment out of writing the addons, but getting some in-game gold for when I actually do play would be friggin' awesome. On US servers I am @zolannaloz

Donation Hall Of Fame!

These people have donated gold to Zolan! (This list encompasses all donations from all of my addons.)
  • choekstr - 11,000 gold! Yeah... The comma is in the right place. At one time this was the largest donation out there. Since then Awesomebilly got a donation for 15,000 so now I await a rich fan to make me #1 again. Aside from the donation choekstr has given me tons of ideas for features to add to my addons as well as inspring a couple addons.
  • Guardianrule - 500 gold! My very first donation I ever received. Sooooo nice to be appreciated for the amount of time I've put into making my addons for you guys!!!!
  • ironllama - 500 gold! And another! You guys are friggin' awesome! Makes me feel like addon writing is worth it and helping people!
  • jchudz - 500 gold! And another! Really happy that people enjoy my work!
  • luizterra23 - 2,000 gold! And another! I am a happy man!
  • Greiger - 2,000 gold! Just when I thought the well was dried up... WOOOOOOOOO!!!

Who is Zolan thankful to?

There are just too many people to list...
This isn't everyone that has helped but this is the major players that I'd like to call out.
  • The Arcane Scripters Guild - These guys are amazing. Too many to list them all specifically. I love being able to be part of the gang. Thanks guys!
  • choekstr - For complaining about the anchors error so much that I made an addon to suppress the error. :P
  • YOU - That's right. Thank you for using the addon! Seeing the number of downloads and favorites encourages me to do more work.

My Other Addons:

All of my addons are intended to be used together, so if you like one, you might want to install others. Here's the list.

Zolan's Chat Notifications - Makes audio queues on incoming chat that you don't want to miss. It is extremely configurable. Please give it a try.
Zolan's Junk Handler - Handles nearly everything you could hope for when it comes to junk. Including, tracking user junk marking and repeating it. Marking certain things like ornate items or 'icky food'. Then selling all junk upon visiting a vendor. It even has the ability to destroy junk under certain conditions. You really should give it a shot. It is, in my biased yet honest opinion, a pretty darn good addon.
Zolan's Auto Repair - Automatic repairing of your gear upon visiting a vendor.
Zolan's Slash Commands - A couple handy slash commands for doing stuff.
Zolan's Anchors Away - Blocks that annoying 'Too many anchors processed.' error. It is kind of like cold medicine. It doesn't fix the problem, it just makes the symptoms go away.

Final Notes:

If you have ideas of features you'd like to see added, post them in the comments. I keep my addons very specific so any ideas will need to be along the lines of marking stuff as junk and/or auto selling stuff.

If you have an idea for a 'hopefully' simple quality of life addon you'd like added to my suite send me a private message on the site. Keep in mind that I prefer my addons to do one thing and do it well.

v1.6
Updated LibAddonMenu to fix 2 small submenu issues.

v1.5
Updated for the new API changes.

v1.4
Moved the config into the main Zolan's Addons section.
Revamped the way it hushes the anchors. It now will notify you if you have a secondary error and what that error is, explaining that it isn't this addon's fault and that you need to fix the other problem, blah blah blah. Hopefully this will clear up the confusion.

v1.3
Man, I'm batting a thousand... This new version should work. Sorry guys!

v1.2
My previous fix had caused problems where it wasn't catching all of the anchor errors. This new version should work correctly.

v1.1
Changed the way we identify the 'too many anchors' error. I do not suspect the previous version did this incorrectly but I can guarantee that it does it correctly now.
Also, reduced the amount of times it tries to clear the error screen just so we don't accidentally close an unrelated error.

v1.0
Initial release.

When zbug is enabled it grabs the error first and displays it regardless. When I removed zbug and only have Anchors away no error. Since I only installed zbug to find out if it could tell me what add-on was causing the too many anchors I don't really need it anyway.

EXCELLENT job! You have removed a huge frustration on every load and reloadui. Well done.

Thanks for checking that out for me choekstr!!! I looked through the zbug code and no, there really isn't a way for me to make my addon compatible with SinusPi's addon.

I'd be willing to work in tandem with SinusPi, but, honestly, it would probably be easier and better to have zbug handle this separately.

Hmm, seems to now be showing too many anchors. Let me revert back a version and see if it goes away.

EDIT: Yes, 1.0 removes anchors error and 1.1 causes it to return (not working).

WTH,

Does it tell you that it suppressed any of the messages on character load? Also, you don't still have zbug installed do you? :P

Also, can you turn off Anchors Away and reload to make sure you don't have any other lua errors? All I can do is close the current error window. If other errors pop up before I get a chance to do so, then it would close them instead of the anchor error.

Just installed this to hopefully get rid of this annoying error but it doesn't seem to do anything. The anchor error seems to be related to the number of addons I have installed. I can disable any two addons and it goes away but no other errors are showing. Installing this addon doesn't suppress the error.

edit: wanted to add that I disabled two addons to make the error go away, then enabled this addon to make sure it was loading properly (which it did with no errors), then enabled the 2 other addons and the error returns.

EQBallzz, I'll revert my code to how 1.0 was because it worked. Give me about 5 minutes and the new version will work correctly.

Ahh, I see now and didn't realize it was just closing any error that popped first. I had an error that was being suppressed and closed by Anchors away. That makes sense now.

I cleaned up Wykkyd's quest tracker older directory and the error went away and now it closes the anchors window properly. That was the piece I was missing...

Not sure if I'm doing something wrong but it still isn't working for me after update. I can disable a few addons and it goes away. Enable this addon. Then enable the last few addons and the error is back.

edit: After trying a few things with loading addons in different orders and such I decided to try version 1.0 and that is working for me. Just FYI.

I just don't get it. It works for me. Works for my wife. Choekstr had posted that only 1.0 was working, but he later found out that it was actually a completely unrelated problem and 1.1/1.2/1.3 all worked. Here is my guess with an explanation.

I'm guessing you have a secondary lua error and here is why...

The way my addon works is when it sees the anchors error, it immediately clears the latest lua error. If, another error fires off too quickly, it will accidentally hide the second error leaving the anchors error still up. This masks the fact that you have a second error and makes it look like my addon is not doing anything. During the logging in phase, there is a crazy amount of stuff that happens near simultaneously, so this isn't implausible to have 2 errors happen so fast that I clear the wrong one.

Version 1.0 had one or two too many 'clear current error' calls which is likely hiding the fact that there is a secondary problem. The later releases only call it once per anchor error.

The most likely culprit is if you have recently updated Wykkyd's addons. He had an incompatible upgrade that requires manual intervention of you deleting a folder or two. This is what tripped chokestr up and could possibly be your problem too.

To test this, turn off anchors away. Try going into the settings (should be called Z's Anchors Away) and disable the addon, and /reloadui. You'll see your regular anchors error. Click the button at the bottom of that window (NOT the X to close at the upper right) and see if there is a second lua error. If there is one, that is the problem.

Please let me know if how this turns out. I'm dedicated to getting this addon right so if there is a bug I would appreciate knowing, and if there isn't a bug then I can revert back to 1.2 as I believe it was the perfect version. Version 1.3 has one extra call in it.

Thanks and sorry for the hassle. I truly intend my addons to work, and work well without fuss. You are my customer and I intend to give the best customer service possible.

I shall await your word.

Thanks for all the info. I would like to help you troubleshoot this issue but I'm not sure what else to try. Like I mentioned before I tried loading addons in different orders (with Anchors Away disabled) but received no other errors. I tried disabling all anchors and enabling them 2-3 at a time to try and catch any specific addons causing a problem but saw no errors until the too many anchors error once I get to the end of the list (both with and without Anchors Away enabled). I tried enabling the addons in a different order at the end to rule out a specific addon causing an error that was being masked but it didn't matter which order they were enabled in the errors always happen as I load the last 2-3 of them which tells me it has something to do with the number of addons not a specific addon.

BTW, I did recently update Wykkyd's Quest tracker but I did it like he instructed and removed the old one first. It did give me a "bad argument" UI error initially but I haven't seen any issues since. Please let me know if there is anything else you want me to try. I can always remove 1.0 and try something else if needed.
