Updating Quest Information

Most of the quest information has been added or updated by mass adding quests from the SavedVariables file. However, I am no longer accepting information that way unless it is for a new chapter. If you have a specific quest pin you would like updated provide the information at LibQuestData:Github/22.

Description
Adds pins for completed and uncompleted quests to the map. (Including not yet started quests!)
NOTE: Map pins are never added to the Tamriel map. Not by QuestMap or HarvestMap.
Major change: Quest Map no longer has internal quest information and instead uses LibQuestData.

Please do not submit `QuestMapScout` files as the information is not formatted for what Quest Map uses. If you want to contribute then upload your LibQuestData to the GitHub link above under "Special Request".

Requirements
To be able to use this add-on you'll need to install these libraries too:These add-ons are optional:
Features
  • Uses new functions introduced in API update 6 to automatically get a list of completed quests, that means you can start using this add-on at any time/level and it will "know" which quests you have completed before.
  • Tooltip shows the quest name and additional info (Cadwell's Almanac quest, skill point reward)
  • Manually (un)hide ((un)mark as completed) quest pins by clicking on it
  • Map pin filters for completed, uncompleted, started and manually hidden quests (you can find them to the right of the map after clicking on the funnel icon)
  • Subfilters to only display Cadwell's Almanac quests and/or quests that reward skill points
  • Different map pin filter settings for PvP and PvE possible (e.g. quests not displayed in Cyrodiil but still in other zones)
  • Changable pin size and pin level
  • Languages supported: English / German / French / Russian / Polish

Commands (enter in chat input)
  • Open settings menu
    /questmap
  • Manually (un)hide all quest of the currently displayed map (zone/subzone/dungeon/etc.):
    /qm hide
    /qm unhide
  • Display list of quests for the current map:
    /qmlist *arg*
    *arg* can be 'completed', 'uncompleted', 'hidden', 'started', 'cadwell', 'skill' or empty (for last used argument)
    /qmgetpos
  • (Not for reporting quests) Display your current location

Notes, Please read!
  • Make sure you install the add-on before starting up ESO, else the pin icon files may not be loaded.
  • There are quests that are missable. Yes I know that sucks, but the missable quests are only (I hope) quests that introduce you to a new region (e.g. quest "To Firsthold"), that's why it's possible to have some few unfinished quests with no related quest giver in each zone.

  • If you want to help improve this add-on, LibQuestData automatically tracks updates for itself.

When handing in my first quest since the update today (a crafting writ) I received a UI-Error from LibQuestData:

UI-Error 25333949

Hide quests?

I know that quests that have the yellow quest marker you can hide just by clicking on the quest marker. However this doesn't seem to work for the green daily quest markers. Specifically the For Glory quest marker. I don't PVP and would like to hide these markers (and a few others as well) but can't seem to do it. Is the addon just not able to do it?

ZOS made quest changes as mentioned in their official post. They do not provide me with any list or any data files so that I can adjust to what they changed. I won't be checking UESP because some data will be updated some won't. Nor will I be attempting to access their site with some kind of java script or Json to process all the quest information they have because I have no way to know what is and isn't updated. I also don't go creating Python and Lua programs to parse other mods data because it's not the data needed for LibQuestData it's specific to each mod. I won't have the time to go running around in each zone and see what they did and what requirements changed and write it all down on a new level one character.

For all I know it has been this way and you can pick up certain Guild related quests in any city with a Mages Guild Building. I doubt I have added pins for every single city that has a Guild hall. The NPC may have always appeared in front of some place. That may be the same as it has been or they may have changed that ZOS doesn't tell me.

I did remove prologue quests recently because they can be purchased from the crown store and started anywhere but I'll be adding back any NPC locations at some point as time permits.

The mod has all hand entered information. So I won't be able to answer any "hey this isn't working right" kind of questions. In fact this mod has never fully automated anything and the original author has mentioned that in his FAQ.

I added as much information as I could find from Destinations to mimic some automation and I have added some of my own information in an attempt to hide certain quests if you don't meet the requirements. However, ZOS doesn't provide some internal functions I need. If users skip quests in Cyrodill then daily quests won't appear either and I can do nothing about that. Some quests will be hidden when you can no longer do them or won't show up if you don't meet a requirement. There are thousands of quests though it's not perfect.

Users typically feel there are bugs with mods like Lorebooks and QuestMap when something doesn't appear how they feel it should. Uninstalling and deleting saved variables won't help because nothing is wrong. Lua errors are when a large window pops up on your screen which most people block with BugCatcher. Having a pin not show up or a pin show up when it shouldn't isn't an Lua error or bug.

I have a family and real life comes first and I feel that maybe for Lorebooks and QuestMap that needs to be made more clear. I may need a post to say, don't ask or provide feedback about pins at all because for me to verify each zone on a new char it would take me several weeks per zone and the last time I checked there are so many zones it would take me a year to redo everything. I can't dedicate that kind of time. As I play if I see something I'll adjust it but that's about all I can do.

I no longer accept quest information files unless it is a new zone or DLC because most users data has been there since I started making changes and it ends up messing up the database in weird ways.
No problem. Just thought I was being helpful and wasn't aware of how this worked. Thanks for clarification and good luck with your family and real life.

I added as much information as I could find from Destinations to mimic some automation and I have added some of my own information in an attempt to hide certain quests if you don't meet the requirements. However, ZOS doesn't provide some internal functions I need. If users skip quests in Cyrodill then daily quests won't appear either and I can do nothing about that. Some quests will be hidden when you can no longer do them or won't show up if you don't meet a requirement. There are thousands of quests though it's not perfect.

Users typically feel there are bugs with mods like Lorebooks and QuestMap when something doesn't appear how they feel it should. Uninstalling and deleting saved variables won't help because nothing is wrong. Lua errors are when a large window pops up on your screen which most people block with BugCatcher. Having a pin not show up or a pin show up when it shouldn't isn't an Lua error or bug.

I have a family and real life comes first and I feel that maybe for Lorebooks and QuestMap that needs to be made more clear. I may need a post to say, don't ask or provide feedback about pins at all because for me to verify each zone on a new char it would take me several weeks per zone and the last time I checked there are so many zones it would take me a year to redo everything. I can't dedicate that kind of time. As I play if I see something I'll adjust it but that's about all I can do.

I no longer accept quest information files unless it is a new zone or DLC because most users data has been there since I started making changes and it ends up messing up the database in weird ways.

Missing Quest Markers?

Hi there,

I'm noticing that some quests aren't showing. I've tried toggling all the filters on and off and some of the starters just aren't there.

Specifically noticing with Bera Moorsmith in Marbruk who wants me to go talk to the Fighter's Guild Master and Arch-Mage Shalidor who is also in Marbruk and is trying to get me to go to a dungeon. I notice others in other cities like this as well. Is that to be expected? Are these a certain 'type' that don't show on the map since they're leading you somewhere else for the 'starter'?

Ah. I was testing on a prologue quests in stonefalls so that would explain it. thanks for answering ^^

Yes with the option enabled you can hide Quests and only Quests. Not the other types. Not Daily, Weekly, or Prologue, or any other type. If you have the default values you can hide only the Yellow ones. I might have allowed to hide Zone story quests. For the others disable the pins. I will not be expanding that option to other types.

Can't hide quests

So unless i'm mistaken. we should be able to hide quests by clicking on them on the map?
however this doesn't seem to work for me
checked with only this addon and all my addons. and i did enable that setting in the addonsettings "toggle option to hide or unhide quests"

well I download all my addons from Minion, dont know if this is the problem.
Have you installed the latest version of LibMapPins? The requirements list on Quest Map's front page shows the lib is needed and the error is saying a newer version is needed. If none of your map pin needs are met, I'm thinking you need to pick up version 1.0 r38 of LibMapPins. I don't use Minion, do all the downloads manually, so don't know if Minion should catch the need for update.
Thank you a lot! I've tried to delete all the files and download them manually from the sites, then it works! XD Though still dont know what happened to the previous files.

anyone know this issue?

All my friends use this addon without any problem, but mine just dont work. Besides, my other addons that require Mappins also dont work.

Got them to work.

my path was C:\...\Documents\Elder Scrolls Online\live\AddOns\QuestMap_v313\QuestMap

I took the questmap folder out of the v313 folder so now the path is

C:\...Documents\Elder Scrolls Online\live\AddOns\QuestMap

and it worked. sorry for the noob mistake and thanks for your replys!

So I know it's working because you have the Story quest showing. So it's for sure an issue with the install. Because the icons that are provided are in a folder so the mod has to use say $GameDir\Addons\QuestMap\img\icon.dds or whatever and because of whatever is going on your path is different. Which is why I mentioned Linux (Not supported) and Manually installing. Manually installing is supported but don't make a folder within a folder or a parent folder. Depending on what you call it.

Some people do things like .\Elder Scrolls Online\live\AddOns\QuestMap_v313\QuestMap and that will never work nor will .\Elder Scrolls Online\live\AddOns\QuestMap\QuestMap

So the game can't find the icons because they are in a different folder then where the game is looking. The game will always look in the default location. OneDrive or putting things on a different drive will not work. It is not something a mod author can control. I can't specify the folder to look in. The default location is the C drive and the Users folder then MyDocuments or just Documents.

Because the game can not find the image files then any mod with image files in a specific location will do the same thing because they always have specific folder locations.

As a workaround you can just choose the game icons that come with ESO rather then the packadged icons. Just change the icon on the settings. The provided icons won't show up until you resolve your issue but the icons that come with the game will show.
