Votan's Minimap  Popular! (More than 5000 hits)
Version: 1.6.0
by: votan [More]
Description
This addon reactivates the mini map from ZOS. Thus the mini map does not do less, but also not more than the built-in world map, because it is the built-in world map.

No artificial synchronization of (custom) pins between mini map and world map. All kind of pins are supported by design.
But also no border pins or rotation mode and such features. My mini map is intended to be lightweight and fast.
  • Includes world map performance tweaks, which can be disabled for performance comparison.
    The tweaks changing the pin rendering to utilize the CPU up to a framerate of 75 only. Seeing the pins rendered over time is not a sign of overload of this addon, but a compensation of others.
  • Conflicts with other mini maps can be expected. Therefore the mini map can be disabled to use the tweaks only.
  • I do not recommend to use the AUI mini map module at the same time as mine.
  • Gamepad support, but limited due to lines in ZOS source code, they call a "total hack" themself:
    Positioning and resizing in keyboard mode only.
  • The window is resizable via mouse. (this code is written by ZOS, not me)

If you think you need a full-featured mini map try the MiniMap by Fyrakin.

@Shinni did a great job creating a plug-in for a Circular Votan's Mini Map.
And if you want to show group pins in different colors and/or icons, such as showing a different color for dead players, you may want to use Votan's Group Pins.

Providing a mini map can be an unthankful job. I guess Fyrakin could sing a song or two. Therefore I can't resist to say:
The addon works well for me. Otherwise I would not have released it. If you think you have performance problems due to this addon, help tracking down or stop using.
Frame freezes are most likely coming from an addon providing a lot of pins without taking care about creating even a simple pin takes some time multiplied by hundreds.
In this case the author of that addon can make it more mini map friendly, only.

Thanks to @scootworks, @Anceane and @Drakanwulf for testing

Remarks
  • There are key-bindings to toggle the mini map on/off. For technical reasons the toggle while at siege weapons needs its own key-binding. But you can re-use the same key.
  • If you feel dissatisfied with the second main menu entry for "Addons", take a look at Harven's AS to LAM adapter.
  • In order to move or resize the window, you need to go to the mouse-cursor mode. You can do this by pressing the key-bind for mouse-cursor mode, which is "." (dot) by default. Or you press "Enter" as if you want to start chatting.
    Once you have the mouse pointer you can drag the window with the title-bar and bottom-bar. Or resize it using the border. The mouse pointer will change. Like in Windows. (And I guess MAC, too )

All required libs are bundled (until Minion 4 is out). The problem is, that unused/not bundled libs are not deleted.

Re: Re: not allowing access to in-game addon settings

I had the same issue (with both this and the Keybinder add-on by Votan). I removed all my add-ons except those and then checked to see what libraries were showing up in the Add-Ons panel from character select screen. Once noted, I downloaded any standalone libraries I was missing (LibAsync, Harven's Addon Settings, and Votan's Addon List in my case). Once I had all the libraries properly installed, I was able to access the addon menu from in-game instead of only character select.

For those of us who do not use Minion, might I suggest in the future a list of required libraries for the addon to run?

i'm assuming this is an error from the minimap addon because that's the only addon named in the error message that i can tell. if i'm wrong and it's tied to map pins i can post there instead but there's nothing about the map pins addon in the error message.

Re: Re: not allowing access to in-game addon settings

Not certain, but it seems you do not have the last version as the addon actually do not reference anymore to LibVotansAddonList.

If you tried with Minion, remove it completely, and try again or just download manually the last version

If i am wrong, then the Author will probably find out better than me

i'm assuming this is an error from the minimap addon because that's the only addon named in the error message that i can tell. if i'm wrong and it's tied to map pins i can post there instead but there's nothing about the map pins addon in the error message.

My friend has the same issue and they want to replace the addon, but I feel like it's an issue we could probably fix by changing our settings, an addon conflict (even though we tried turning them all off and it persisted), or some way for us to edit the LUA for a workaround for now.
The zoom can be adjusted in the settings. If not, I am quite sure there is a conflict with another addon.

Logged in this morning with a fresh folder and empty interface.log

Error was in interface right after the log in, if i do a reloadui same, if i travel same. (i checked the time it was each time i launched a reloadui, a travel, or log out/in, and those appears at the same time. Also happens when i enter Battleground or Cyrodill.

------
THough there is no error throwed in the LibDebugLogger saved variables concerning those two addons, beside those :

Code:
    {
        [1] = 1558618671120,
        [2] = "2019-05-23 09:37:51.120 -0400",

        [5] = "LibDebugLogger",

    },
That last error is repeated a lot

So far this is all the things that are strange into the elder scroll addons

error thrown in the interface.log

I have those errors in the interface.log file, may be there is a conflict between those those 2 addons :

Harvestmap and VotanMinimap ?

Code:
2019-05-22T23:48:16.600-05:00 |cff0000Lua Error: map measurement missing:
stack traceback:
[C]: in function 'assert'

user:/AddOns/HarvestMap/Libs/LibMapMetaData/MapMetaData.lua:28: in function 'MapMetaData:New'
<Locals> self = tbl, obj = tbl </Locals>
user:/AddOns/HarvestMap/Libs/LibMapMetaData/LibMapMetaData.lua:30: in function 'ComputeMapMetaData'
<Locals> x = 0, y = 0, tileTexture = "" </Locals>
user:/AddOns/HarvestMap/Libs/LibMapMetaData/LibMapMetaData.lua:77: in function 'SetMapToPlayerLocation'
user:/AddOns/VotansMiniMap/Main.lua:692: in function 'UpdateMap'
<Locals> needChange = true, oldMapType = 0, mapId = "" </Locals>
user:/AddOns/VotansMiniMap/Main.lua:757: in function 'asyncUpdate1'
user:/AddOns/VotansMiniMap/Main.lua:775: in function 'minimapUpdate'|r
Not sur if this is related to my bug

I have the same error as aboved in the interface.log after a fresh start this morning and the interface.log new and empty at first.

Thank you

Posting this also in Harvestmap comments

Re: Re: LUA ERROR

As i wanted to verify that it was not on my end, i checked as you suggest multiples times.

Finally after the 8 attempt, this is what i noticed :

If a version of Libstub is embedded in a library and is not the same version as the standalone in my addon folder, it seems to generate a conflict.

The version of the libstub inside the Harven lib was different. As soon as i changed it for the last updated one, the issue vanished by itself.

Though if it can help, the bug it was showing was actually removing some of my keybinds and creating the visual issue : for minimap i use - and = to zoom in an out, and i use the mouse scroll for an attack button.

With the libstub old version, my - and = where not responding anymore, and the zoom was taking over.

As soon as i changed the lib, and without changing anything to my keybdind set up, all went back to normal.

Hope this can help, but for now all is back to normal

THank you

When i stopped to zoom, the minimap icones all regrouped in the middle of the map and then extensed at the good place.

I never saw this happening, so i decided to log with ONLY this addon and the libs needed for it

And the result was :

user:/AddOns/VotansMiniMap/libs/LibHarvensAddonSettings/LibHarvensAddonSettings.lua:2: attempt to index a nil value

Not sur if this error can cause the behavior i discribed, but hope it can help in case

Thank you
Hi Anceane,

this error says LibStub is not loaded. But that can not be true, because LibHarvensAddonSettings implicitly loads LibStub.

Please rename your AddOns folder to something else like "_AddOns", create a new AddOns folder and unpack the zip to it. Still having the error?
I did that and there is no error.
Something really strange is going on.

Hey, was just wondering if there's anyway I could put this in the top right corner and move around the BG info and Quest Tracker frames so they don't overlap, or if there's an addon that can do this for me?
