Plunder Skull Timer (2022 Witches Festival)  Popular! (More than 5000 hits)
Version: 1.7.0
by: code65536 [More]

Dremora skulls are now daily resets, rather than 20-hour cooldowns. Regular plunder skulls have no cooldown in group dungeons, trials, or arenas. In other areas, they have a 3-minute cooldown.

Old Information (pre-2019)

What's new in 2018?

It appears that the 3-minute cooldown on regular Plunder Skulls has been removed for the 2018 festival for most sources of regular Plunder Skulls. For the most part, the on-screen timer can be ignored.

The 2018 festival also introduces the new Dremora Plunder Skulls, which appear to be on a 20-hour cooldown from the previous skull of that type that was looted. The /pstdremora command was added to support this.

Dremora Plunder Skulls

Typing the /pstdremora command into chat will print to your chatbox a log of the Dremora Plunder Skulls that you have looted and when each was looted, to help with managing the eligibility cooldowns on these skulls.

You can also include an optional filter term; e.g., if you type /pstdremora tri, it will show only the skulls whose names contain "tri" (i.e., the Trial skulls); typing /pstdremora without a filter term will show the full unfiltered log.

Alternatively, there is another addon that can track Dremora Plunder Skulls in a manner that's more user-friendly than a log dump: Event Tickets

Old Information (pre-2018)

What is the Plunder Skull Timer and what does it do?

This simple addon displays the amount of time that has elapsed since the last time you looted a Plunder Skull.

Since the Plunder Skulls from the Witches Festival appear have an internal drop cooldown, it's useful to see how long it's been since your last loot.

How do I use this addon?

Just install the addon! The timer will automatically appear when you loot a Plunder Skull, and the timer will automatically reset when you loot another Plunder Skull. If you haven't looted a Plunder Skull in a long time (over 15 minutes), the timer will automatically stop and hide itself.

Once the timer appears, you can reposition it by using your mouse to drag it around.

You can manually hide the timer by double-clicking on it.

You can disable the auto-hide feature (so that the timer will run indefinitely) by typing the /pstautohide command into chat.

How long is the cooldown on Plunder Skulls?

Based on my testing, the cooldown is exactly 3 minutes for bosses in group dungeons. I think it's safe to assume that the same cooldown applies to other instanced content, such as trials and arenas. It's been reported that public dungeon bosses also share the same 3-minute cooldown. Reports on the forums suggest that the cooldown is higher for overland and delve bosses, but I have not tested this to confirm nor do I know what their cooldowns are.
  • Version 1.7.0 (2022/10/20)
    • Updated for the 2022 Witches Festival

  • Version 1.6.0 (2021/10/21)
    • Updated for the 2021 Witches Festival

  • Version 1.5.0 (2020/10/22)
    • Updated for the 2020 Witches Festival

  • Version 1.4.1 (2019/10/25)
    • Adjusted the format of the Dremora Plunder Skull log to reflect the new reset timing

  • Version 1.4.0 (2019/10/24)
    • Preliminary update for the 2019 Witches Festival; it is unclear if Dremora Plunder Skulls are still on a 20-hour timer or if they have been changed to reset at 0600 UTC, so further adjustments may be needed

  • Version 1.3.2 (2018/10/20)
    • Reinstated the timer for regular skulls; although the vast majority of regular skull sources are not subject to a cooldown, it appears that some skull sources are still subject to a cooldown

  • Version 1.3.1 (2018/10/20)
    • Server identity (NA/EU) will now be remembered for newly-acquired skulls; the log display will note if a skull was acquired on a server different than the current server (the server identity will be shown only if the current server is not the skull's origin, and it is not retroactive for any skulls acquired before installing version 1.3.1)

  • Version 1.3.0 (2018/10/20)
    • Disabled the timer for regular Plunder Skulls
    • The /pstdremora command can now filter by skull type; e.g., if you type "/pstdremora tri", it will show only the skulls whose names contain "tri" (i.e., the Trial skulls); typing "/pstdremora" without a filter term will still show the full log as before

  • Version 1.2.4 (2018/10/18)
    • Based on forum reports of the cooldown duration, the timestamps for the Dremora Plunder Skull log are now color-coded red if it was less than 20 hours ago, and green otherwise

  • Version 1.2.3 (2018/10/18)
    • Added a chat command (/pstdremora) to show a time log of the Dremora Plunder Skulls you have looted

  • Version 1.2.2 (2018/10/18)
    • Updated for the 2018 Witches Festival

  • Version 1.2.1 (2017/10/23)
    • API version bump for Update 16 (Clockwork City)

  • Version 1.2.0 (2017/10/20)
    • Updated for the 2017 Witches Festival

  • Version 1.1.1 (2016/10/24)
    • The timer will now start counting from a combat end event, if there was one 15 seconds or less before a skull pickup (The game's cooldown starts when the boss is killed, but since there is no way to track that, the addon uses the skull pickup time instead as a close approximation; this change refines that heuristic by using the combat end time, if there was a combat end event shortly before a skull pickup)

  • Version 1.1.0 (2016/10/17)
    • The timer is now color-coded: red from 00:00 to 2:29, yellow from 2:30 to 2:59, and green from 3:00 onwards
    • Right-clicking on the timer will post the current elapsed time into group chat

  • Version 1.0.1 (2016/10/14)
    • The timer will no longer trigger from skulls looted by group members

  • Version 1.0.0 (2016/10/14)
    • Initial version

Missing a Dremora Plunder Skull

Has it already been reported that it's not tracking the gold Dremora Plunder Skull from the Crowborne Horror daily quest? (that quest has its very own Dremora Plunder Skull "category" ['Crowborne Horror'], which is new to this year, and isn't yet being tracked by the add-on.)

(ItemID = 190038)

Oops, I knew I forgot something. I've uploaded a new 2022 version, and it should be available as soon as the admins at ESOUI get around to approving it.
Thanks so much again for this handy addon and for the quick turnaround on the 2022 version!

savedvariables file

If I delete the 'plunderskulltimer' file inside the savedvariables folder - will it rebuild itself with new/current information and leave out the data from previous years?

The new data may be at the bottom of the list - but the list has gotten kind of long and it really scrolls a lot of conversation way up high out of the chat log.

I'm just curious.
Thanks for the addon.

Well, the log in version 1.4.1 tells you which ones you've gotten today (and marks them with green). While I could make it show which ones you haven't gotten, showing which ones you have is easier to implement and I don't really have much interest in spending much time on this addon.

Thanks for updating this again for this year!

Since the other Event Ticket add-on looks to be abandoned, would it be possible to incorporate some of its plunder skull features into this one? With the main plunder timer at top, and the dremora skulls hidden in a dropdown.

Whether you choose to add these features or not, it would probably be good to remove the link to Event Tickets since it no longer works.

it works, but i think they changed something on the cooldown.
i was running around in a public dungeon so far, and sometimes a get a skull after 4 minutes, sometimes even after 2 min. So it seems its not always 3 min?
