NEWS for Version 3.x:

Murkmire Edition

This release features an enormous overhaul of Magic Carpet internally and visually, including a:
- new framework that leverages the latest Housing API including the new Item Linking feature
- dramatic improvement to performance and stability
- brand new User Interface and configuration dialog
- ...and a host of new features with literally tons of new Magic Carpets and even more on their way in
the coming weeks

As nearly all of the add-on's code has been rewritten and/or refactored, your Magic Carpet
settings have been reset to ensure compatibility with this update; however, your key binds
configured under Controls should not be affected.

Features
- Dramatically simplified Magic Carpet set up for the dozens of new Magic Carpet Modes that
will be coming in the next several updates, including:
* 1-Button Magic Carpet start up.
* Automated assembly of your Magic Carpet or other mode of transportation using items directly
from your Bank, Inventory or from within your Home (within a configurable range from you).
* Automated disassembly of your Magic Carpet when you are finished with it, including automatic
removal of any items that were placed into the home as part of the Assembly process.
- A brand new User Interface has been designed and developed that gives you a much more intuitive
way of configuring and interacting with your Magic Carpet, including:
* A Magic Carpet selection carousel that allows you to scroll through the various new Magic Carpet
modes that are available now as well as literally dozens more that will be coming over the next
few weeks.
* New visual indicators identify which component(s) are required for your selected Magic Carpet Mode
as well as the quantity of those items that are available in your Bank, Inventory and within
range from you in the Home.
* A "Quick Access" button that will appear whenever you are in a House that you can fly in.
Look for the ethereal Yin and Yang symbol. It wants you to click it.
* Click-to-Adjust your Magic Carpet via the "Quick Access" button. Look for the Raise (Up)
and Lower (Down) arrows that will appear whenever your Magic Carpet is in-flight.
- A near-complete rewrite of the Magic Carpet engine has been done in order to prepare for
the new Housing API features that will be made possible with several new functions provided in
the Murkmire DLC, including:
* Insane new Magic Carpet modes that will include a range of new forms of transportation with
all manner of new vehicles and bizarre contraptions.
* New, game-changing modes that will range from Special Effects and Roleplay Modes that can link
to, alter and orbit your character in real-time to Combat Enhancements for Duels with things
like Magica-Technico suits and Fire- and Earth-Bending Abilities.

Instructions:

Step 1.

Place EITHER of these item types in the home (near your character):
  • 3 x Rough Planks, Wide
  • 3 x Clockwork Vent, Octagonal Fan
  • 3 x Scavenged Grating, Wide
  • 3 x High Elf Carpet, Rustic
  • 3 x High Elf Carpet, Water-Themed
  • 3 x Fishing Vessel
  • 3 x Ice Floe, Thin
Step 2.

Press the Toggle Magic Carpet On/Off keybind (configured under Controls > Housing HUD > Magic Carpet)
OR
Type /mag in the Chat window.

Step 3.

Walk or run around; the Magic Carpet will follow underneath your feet.
Jump to ascend immediately.
Use the configurable key bind buttons:
- "Ascend" to gradually ascend while moving.
- "Descend" to gradually descend.
- "Suspend" to pause the magic carpet in place.

- Blocking provides additional front-facing shielding.
- Interrupting/Bashing can be used to provide brief shielding and may even push attackers back.

- Roll Dodging temporarily engages "Descend" mode and provides additional rear-facing shielding during the roll.
- Sneaking/Cloaking (all morphs) will lower the shield out of sight as to maintain your stealth.

- Added a new Quality indicator for each Mode.
* The Quality of a Mode roughly corresponds to the cost or complexity of the components required for the assembly.

- Added a new "Tags" label to the Carpet Selection window that indicates:
* Modes that support PanoramaView(tm).
* Modes that are Combat Enhanced.

- Added a "Featherfall Sensitivity" setting to allow for higher or lower freefalling meters/sec thresholds.

- Changed the "MC" button to dim, instead of hide, when you are in a house that you do not have Decorator permission in.

- Pressing the "Toggle Magic Carpet On/Off" keybind when the engine cannot start (for any reason) will show the Carpet Selection window to allow you to choose a different mode or see how many items you may be missing for the current mode.
* This is in addition to the error message and reason being displayed in the Chat window.

- The "Missing X items." Mode message will now appear in red.

[ Fixes ]

- Fixed an issue that could cause disassembled components to remain linked to the parent item.

- Fixed an error that would occur when an active Magic Carpet auto-deactivated during a jump to a different zone.

Ah -- ok, so that slant there is to give you a 100% clear view in front of you of whatever you are working on in the house. It's a feature I call "PanoramaView(tm)" It only works for a few different modes, including the traditional Carpet modes as you mentioned. You can disable it if you would like via the Magic Carpet Settings panel from the system menu. Just toggle PanoramaView(tm) to OFF.

Really loving this add on, but I have a weird problem. The High Elf Carpet Water theme is always slanted, never level. No problem with the planks. Let's see if trying to share the image works.

Ah -- ok, so that slant there is to give you a 100% clear view in front of you of whatever you are working on in the house. It's a feature I call "PanoramaView(tm)" It only works for a few different modes, including the traditional Carpet modes as you mentioned. You can disable it if you would like via the Magic Carpet Settings panel from the system menu. Just toggle PanoramaView(tm) to OFF.

Hey Tobbe. I just checked it now and it's working for me. I'm able to stand on it fine, jump, ascend, descend. Is it possible that your Raise/Lower adjustment is off? I am using the default of "0", so maybe try Raising or Lowering with the MC button's arrows (or from the Settings panel) to "0" and give it a go. But please do let me know if you continue to experience the issue. A video even, perhaps, would be great as well if possible.
after i retrieved it and placed it manually near the entrance to my grand psijic villa it stared to work again.
not sure why i could fall straight thru it when it was stationary.
That is strange for sure. I haven't seen that before sadly, so I don't know what would have caused that temporarily. But if you experience it again and could send a video of it, including shots of your current settings for the add-on, that'd be great. Thank you so much!

Hi Tono and thank you for the feedback.

I apologize for the lack of clarity on the tagging of the Sorcerer's Aura mode: that mode is a "Cosmetic" mode, meaning it provides a visual effect on/around your character rather than serving as a mode of transportation, so to speak.

I have relabeled the "Cosmetic" tag to "Cosmetic / Non-Flying" to hopefully make this more clear in the user interface, particularly as I do plan to add more cosmetic modes in the future that provide visual effects similar to the Sorcerer's Aura mode.

The Hectahame Skulls appear around my feet but don't work as expected. (no up, no down, no nothing) The other things I have work fine with MC but not the skulls. I patiently await the day they do. Your addon is a lot of fun. Thanks.

22 October Stream & MC Challenge!

How long is the PanoramaView™ idle start? (Immediately upon standing still.)

Is there a way to initiate the idle and hold it for decorating as well as with the screenshots? (Yes, see above.)

Is it possible to label which modes support this feature? (Yes, this will be coming soon™.)

Is there a way to add custom items? (Of course, this will be a feature that is coming soon™. Just be aware any custom items you choose is your responsibility to recognize the hit box size that is only changeable by ZOS, do keep in mind that Cardinal can only allow you to use it, not change sizes, and you can check hit box size via the selection box visual in Essential Housing Tools.)


Do you even Magic Carpet YO?!! Challenge!

Starting 5 November 2018 until 17 December 2018 submissions will be open for a special design in Magic Carpet for one lucky person. Winner will be announced on or before 21 January 2019. Depending on holiday scheduling and/or replication scenarios.

To be eligible you must:

- NOT have used items that are only purchasable via crowns, limited time offerings such as luxury vendor or exclusive items, or items that are longer available in game.

- use only items that can currently be crafted or purchased in game from achievement or general housing goods vendors. This is to ensure that all players who utilize the winning design will have equal access.

- have created a design on PC-NA or EU that can be used as a vehicle for Magic Carpet that has at maximum 100 items to include a platform in which a player can stand on.

- have the Essential Housing Tools 'export clipboard' saved to a wordpad file and at least one screenshot to accompany the description.

- be prepared to do a very brief visual EHT animated presentation of how it should work 'on the move' before the close of the challenge if one is requested.

All entries should be submitted in response to this post with:

- Your @UserID and Platform (PC-NA or PC-EU).
- A name for your design.
- A screenshot of the design.
- A detailed description of the intent of functionality.
- Best means and times to contact you for an in-game preview of the intended animation.

If you have questions, please either drop a line here or for demonstrations on how to animate, save, and export with Essential Housing Tools drop by Eclaveth's stream ( https://www.twitch.tv/eclaveth ) for a tutorial! Actually, yes :-) Come Monday, I will be able to make single-item "carpets" work as well (if not better) than today's 3-item carpets do, so I will most certainly add the Dragon for you! :-)
And the Fishing Vessel? (please)
Totes! To be honest, animating and stabilizing carpets should be a much faster process instead of the current hour(s)+ needed for each individual mode, so I have been putting the rest of the modes off until Monday. But yes, count on it - the Vessel will come back as well! <3
