As soon as my M.2 SSD arrives I'm going back to Win 7 and I really wonder if they try to make me update again.

you should call them and get it re-activated

that's how they do anti piracy -- every CPU has a Unique ID and they associate that to your key.

Anytime you have to replace a chip you have to call MS - it's a huge pain in the ass.

especially when what they are selling you is an OS platform for Spying.

Thanks for this!
After reading this I decided to try it on my laptop and your post helped me shutting down some of this useless crap that is enabled by default.

I'm glad you found it helpful.

you should do 1 more thing.

This is true for other Windows versions, but not for an upgraded Win 10. I've looked around the Internet and read discussions on reddit, you definitely can't reactivate it. The function in Windows where you enter the code when you call MS is not available and it says it's not possible on the official help page.
But wait, there's more! I've seen screenshots of MS support chat protocols on reddit where people actually got accused of fraud against Microsoft when they tried to reactivate Win 10 after changing parts.
It even has become a running gag

Not really, I just figured I would try and see for myself on my laptop before it installs itself on my pc one day. It's called preparation. :D

I have already done this before on a Win 7 machine.

This will prevent the download, the icon and the install.

you just have to uninstall and hide a few updates then it will never update or bother you.

If that does not work for you (it really should) there are actually multiple options to prevent it.
