Minion can't connect to Internet
I'm getting the following error message with Minion 2.0.9a-beta:
"Minion is unable to connect to the Internet. Please check your firewall, security, and proxy settings." I had a similar problem with the installation, that I fixed by adding an exception to my Norton 360. I also added firewall exception to Minion.exe in my users\[username]\AppData\Local\Minion folder, and a "SONAR" exception to the entire directory, and the users\[username]\.minion folder. I set Minion.exe (same folder) to "run as administrator" across all users (there is only 1 user). Still, Minion can't connect to Internet error. I did this all after uninstalling v2.0.8. I also tried disabling Norton's "smart firewall," and antivirus autoprotect, still can't connect. Obviously I am connected as I posted this. The only setting I changed on install was I put the startmenu item in the Minion folder instead of Zamxxxx. Also, when I installed 2.0.9a-beta it wanted to update C++ redistributable, but after the files downloaded an error came up that I already have a newer version installed, and that portion of the install was aborted. Minion installer should detect this ahead of time. I didn't have these problems W/v2.0.8. For now, I am reverting to v2.0.8. Windows 7-64 sp1 v6.1.7601 build 7601. 32 bit DX 11 ver 6.01.7601.17514. 64 bit DX 11 ver 6.01.7601.17514. Norton 360 Premier edition. Satellite Internet (Wildblue) 400KB/sec (KBytes) measured download speed, 3Mbps (Mbits) officially, upload speed is 1/4 download speed. Ping times are around 1000ms to anywhere, 800-900 if lucky. It takes time for the radio signals to get to/from the Satellite (at the speed of light). Could be latency issues, lots of latency in Satellite Internet. C:\Users\[username]\.minion\minion.xml

Edited 6/10 to correct: "DirectX" changed to "C++ redistributable." |
Hi HalloweenWeed,
Minion does not install DirectX, it does however install Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable 2010, is that maybe what you are talking about? The log shows something blocking Minion from connecting to the internet. In Norton 360 can you look in your activity log and see if its blocking connections to api.mmoui.com (port 443) or cdn.mmoui.com (port 80) for Minion? When Minion starts it checks to see if it can read the headers from those two places and if it can't it displays that error. I'm guessing Norton white listed Minion 2.0.8 but when you re-installed with 2.0.9 it probably got blacklisted or the domains api.mmoui.com, cdn.mmoui.com some how got blocked? Also why did you re-install Minion if I can ask? Minion self updates. Did you have trouble with Minion self updating so you tried to re-install to get the update? Thank you for providing all this great info! |

Hey :)
I got the same problem, so i don't create a new topic for this. "Minion is unable to connect to the Internet. Please check your firewall, security, and proxy settings." That's the message i got after opening Minion. I don't know if it's nessasary but i also got an error during the installation with the Microsoft Visual C++ 2010 Redisputable. It told me i got a newer version of it even after deleting my version before installing. BTT: I disabled my Firewalls, the one from ESET and also the one from my router. After it didn't work i disabled every security i got on my pc. Deinstalled Minion and Re-Installed it, surely with Admin-rights. The problem maintains. I'm really clueless what blocks Minions' Connection. I hope someone can tell me, and how to solve it too. Greetz Attached is the minion0.txt file and here is the xml

The bottom line is that the old version or Minion worked for me, and the new one doesn't. So I will use the old version. The old version 2.0.8 beta works just fine, so I'll let you guys just fix the new version, I have done my part of the diagnosis, if you can't see that the new version is flawed I can't make you see it, GL to you. |

Same exact error: cannot connect to the internet
I am also using windows 7 64 home and get the same exact "cannot connect to the internet" error message when I open Minion.

Funnily enough I have the same issue happening lately to me, I have the latest version of minion and it works but often first time I open it, it gives me that error that it can't connect to the internet. I relaunch it and then usually the second time around it does work.
Today however was the first time I had multiple crashes with this error but in the time it took to find this thread I tried again and it worked, I am not sure why this happens though. I am not sure if this has any baring on this fault but I have had issues with connection to the game and some other applications also. I have a feeling it is a port issue, e.g. I could log into ESO and get to the character selection screen but then on the loading after that it would crash with an unknown error, I have had my skype also do this last night, connects etc but soon as I try and make a call it doesnt connect. I seems that its a port or range of ports that get blocked, I also had the issue with bit torrent. Only reason I mention this is if it may be related to a port or range of ports, refreshing etc of those ports i dont know. I have flushed the dns of my PC and restarted the router and PC and sometimes it works other times well it just starts to work randomly, though I can surf the web otherwise fine during these "down times" I am wondering if an application is causing this, so far the only common thread I have here to you folks are that I use minion and play ESO also. I have no idea if there is a connection here but maybe this will give some perspective to you smarter folks out there. Also I am running AVG Internet Security, Win7 64bit Ent Ed. I also have swapped out my routers and the fault still happens. |
N0madS0uL Minion only uses standard web browsing ports. Port 80 and Port 443 (SSL).
When you have a connection issue again with Minion can you post your minion0.log? It is located here. |

Hi
i've the same problem with my win8 pc here are the log files tks |
Hi fierikit,
Something is preventing Minion from accessing your network. What security software do you have installed? Do you have Bigfoots Killer Network manager installed? Are you running ipv6? |
unable to connect to the internet
I had IPV6 active, now i've unchecked but nothing change (after reconnecting)
I've a wireless connection with my router I've Kaspersky version 10, tried to disable firewall, also windows firewall but nothing change other background sofware are: - dropbox: as in my work PC with Win7 (I've tried...) where Minion works - google drive: as in my work PC with Win7 where Minion works - steam client: as in my work PC with Win7 where Minion works - here i also have NVIDIA client Tks |
Same Problem :-/
I'm having the same issue.. I posted a seperate thread, which I will copy here, that has more detail in it.. if any can help me I'd be forever grateful. After reading some of the replies on this thread I feel I should state that I DO have "Bigfoot Killer Network Manager". Dunno if that makes a difference or if that's issue, but admins asked other people if they do so I figured I'd mention that I do. If that's the issue, what I do with it to fix the issue? Thank you for taking the time to listen and assist. My Minion.xml and Log are both attached on the original thread I posted, linked below:
http://www.esoui.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2023 Original Thread Content(Details of my issue): Hi! When I first tried to run minion Windows firewall asked me if I wanted to allow access, so I clicked allow access. I'm operating on a Windows 7 system. I use to not be able to get minion to open at all before this until I uninstalled and reinstalled this new version after waiting a while.. I think for some reason an older version just wasn't compatible with my machine. Now it works fine, except not being able to connect to the internet, which notifies me of it not being able to connect.. then goes ahead and closes it down when I hit ok. So, it's a step in the right direction from it's performance for me before.. but I'm still hitting a road block. I even temporarily disabled all my avast firewalls and tried it with them disabled, but still no cigar. Could anyone please help me? I'll be sure to attach logs etc. It probably is less a bug and more user error, but I know I'm not the only person having issues. :-/ I use Avast Anti-Virus and MalwareBytes Anti-Malware as my virus and malware protection. Only Avast runs constantly in the backround(I don't have the paid version of MBAM) As well as the typical built in windows 7 firewall etc. Hope to hear from someone soon with a fix! Thank you in advance for you time and any help you can give me! I need it to work for me so I don't have to manually update all my ESO mods.... cause doing that really really blows. -Zack |

I dont have that Killer software thing I think. Never even heard of it before so who knows really. I use Webroot antivirus and the only browser plugin I use is Adblock I believe.
|
I have the same issue, but I have been having it for several months now. I regularily check these forums in the hope that one day this will be solved so I can actually use the program. But so far, no one has been able to help me. I'm thinking that this is something that will never be solved, i'm losing hope.
|
With out people posting their minion0.log's and a information on what firewall, antivirus, if killer network manger is installed, etc its going to be difficult to track down since we aren't able to reproduce it. Maybe we can find a pattern in peoples logs. In fact you may have a different problem the only way to confirm is post your minion.xml and minion0.log here :)

We just need to figure out what is wrong/different with your systems and make Minion smart enough to work around that. I'm guessing you'd have trouble with any java application wanting to communicate over port 80 and 443 at the moment. Have a great day Spartakus! |

for a while i was getting a java error then I reinstalled from the webpage and now it always claims I have no internet connection. I have a comodo internet security and I've put it in game mode and also disabled the antivirus and the firewall and no luck. Windows Firewall is turned off. I've verified that the newest version of Java is installed. I've run the installer and the application as administrator. I have Windows 7. I did both of those netstat commands and nothing at all was displayed. I've attached my log and xml. Please help.

Just checking in to say I just tried the latest Minion: Minion2.0.11b-beta, and same old "Minion can't connect to the Internet" prob. So again, I will be reverting to ver. 2.0.8 beta. I like the program, if it works. Attached is my latest files from the try W/Minion2.0.11b-beta. FYI.
|
can I get a link to the old version of minion? I checked the site and had no luck finding it.

Try this version http://cdn.mmoui.com/minion/Minion2.0.12-alpha.exe. When asked to update skip that prompt.
Let me know if it works for you. |
Still, Minion can't connect...

OK I tried ver.2.0.12a and same ol' prob. Minion can't connect to the Internet. Checked my Norton settings, Minion folders still excepted from "SONAR." Attached is the latest xml and log files, and screenshots of Minion working/not working. To the programmer:
I know it can be very difficult to debug programs (I have done so myself several times, and not just game mods). Lately "everyone" seems to think that everyone has good Internet without long latencies. My satellite latency is nearly a second, ping times vary from 800-1200ms. And only about 3% of the ppl on Internet have satellite Internet, so we are a minority, so many developers just ignore us and chalk it up to either a fluke, or just don't believe it (our problems) at all. It has been wonderful to be able to play ESO on my Internet connection. Anyway, we have problems that others don't, due to our long ping times. Something has went awry since 2.0.8. I assume you are having trouble figuring out what went wrong, it might be something as simple as using a new Java SDK - the Java programmers might have forgot about us satellite Internet users when updating their code. Of course all this is just a guess, IDK. The facts remain: The older version works fine for me and anything newer doesn't. The results are repeatable. Therefore, there MUST be something wrong with the newer version, AFAIK. |
Hey, tap-tap-tap, are you guys (MMOUI) working on this?
Haven't seen any new versions yet. |
We are working on some big things however I'm not 100% sure it will fix your problems since we can not reproduce or find what is causing your problem.
Hopefully we will have a release some time next week that you can test if all goes well. We will be releasing 3 versions, 1 normal, and 2 alpha's that have some code we think could be the problem disabled. At the very least we have introduced some more error logging so maybe that will clue us in. The issue is something keeps resetting Minions network connection on your system when it requests access, what or why that is I'm not sure yet? You are one of very few (maybe the only one) to have reported a connection reset error, most every one else with network errors report a permission denied. Code:
<message>I/O exception (java.net.SocketException) caught when processing request: Connection reset</message> |
Hi HalloweenWeed,
Can you try this version of Minion? It has some code that is a little more friendly to high latency connections. Uninstall the current version of Minion and install 2.0.13-alpha-hl. If you get further in and Minion asks you to update please ignore the update (Update Later). Minion is only noticing the version you are running is different than what is currently live and wants to make it the same. Even though you are running a newer version. If this works for you then I think the fix will be simple to roll out into our normal beta release. Thanks for your help! |

I am not deleting the "settings" before I re-install, is that OK? Attached is the resulting files. BTW I just updated my Java (less than?) a week ago too. |
Thanks for the help testing that.
No you don't need to delete the settings file. The error Code:
I/O exception (java.net.SocketException) caught when processing request: Connection reset You say 2.0.8 still works for you though? |
Update. Talked with our java developer and he is going to gut the network check and I'll create a new alpha release from that. Since that is the only thing different network wise from 2.0.8 to 2.0.11. If this works I think we will remove this check until we can find a better way. So I'll let you know when I have a new build, maybe tonight but if not probably not until monday.
Thank you again for taking the time to help me test. Really appreciate it. |
Yeah I just tried uninstalling Minion, deleting the config using the uninstall prompt, rebooting, re-installing the new 13a build, rebooting again before starting Minion, still does the same thing. Just thought I should give it the best try.
Odd, it (ver .8b) didn't recognize that I have the RAETIA info bar installed. I will try starting it again. Nope, still doesn't recognize RAETIA info bar installed (ESO). All it sees is loot drop. I guess I should've saved the settings directory before uninstalling and deleting it. Oh well, it's not all that hard to update these things manually. EDIT: v2.0.8-beta also automatically installed an older version of Loot drop. I manually restored it. BTW the last v (of Loot drop) I installed was labelled the same v as the one before it, by the author (bad programming practice). I could immediately tell, as the older version has "^p" or something like that after the name of every item. |
HalloweenWeed here is a new version with out the network tests. When you have some time please install this and test.
Thanks :) Minion2.0.13-alpha-nn.exe |
I've been having the same problem going on in this thread. I installed the above alpha and it works for me.
Why was the network test there anyway? Isn't it redundant since you need to sign in to use Minion? |

Well ver "Minion2.0.13-alpha-nn" worked fine, except:
It didn't recognize that I have the RAETIA info bar installed. All it sees is loot drop. It updated loot drop (with my permission). Could it me that the new RAETIA info bar uses a slightly different folder name? I will check it out eventually. Attached is the minion.xml file for your debugging. Hmm, there is NO minion .log file, not even minion0.log - I use the search tool "Everything" and it really gets "everything" on my local computer. |
Thanks for the help testing. I think what we will do is add a configuration paramater to the minion.xml that allows people with high latency connections to disable the network check. So the next live release (I'll let you know) will just need you to add something to the config file.
The no minion0.log worries me a little. Can you list all the files inside the .minion folder when Minion is running? Minion uses file structure & folder names to match the addon to ones in our database. If we can find your minion log it will say what its doing with RAETIA info bar. Thanks :) |

Hmm, there's one now!
I found out the "RAETIA information bar" is now called the "RAETIA info hub" and therefore looked at as a separate add-on by Minion. I would think a program like Minion should catch things like that. I installed (manually) the new ver in it's new folder name, all set W/"RAETIA info hub" now and Minion recognizes it. As I said, there was no log file on the 1st run of Minion. However, when I changed the RAETIA stuff and re-ran Minion, there was a log file. You asked the contents with Minion open, so I saved both that log file and the subsequent log file with Minion closed. Since there was a log file on the 2nd run, I will forgo the directory listing you asked for. Another thought: the programmer could ping the home server (or any other server known to be persistent and reliable) and just turn off the net check if all the pings returned were above say 300-500 or so. That would be the automatic fix, to still allow net checks. Here are the files. |
Follow-up about the "RAETIA info hub" for all interested:
It takes hours now to set it up the way I like it - like the "RAETIA information bar" was (that took only a few minutes)! So I ditched it for the older version which still works great - "RAETIA information bar" v1.50. FYI. And I wouldn't want Minion to check for updates anyway for that. |

Minion checks it has an internet connection before it loads anything and gives a nice error. Before if there was no internet Minion would just hang on loading... for forever. Thats why one of the first things we do is check for an internet connection and present a nicer error so people have a better idea of what the issue is. It does this by checking for a HTTP status of 200 for our API and CDN server. Some reason on really high latency connections this does not work. Also Minion does not require you to login, never has. There is a [Guest] button on the login screen. |
New version pushed live 2.0.13-beta. Feel free to update to this version. However you will want to add the following to your minion.xml
example: Code:
<client> *We don't consider this a true fix but more of a bandaid until we find a better way. We don't want to require people to edit their minion.xml in the future. |

Well that worked - with the xml mod.
Again, no log file from the 1st run, but the 1st run I didn't modify the xml, and it once again couldn't "connect to the Internet." So here are the files on the 2nd run, with the xml mod. No need to butter me up with thnx, I always try to help programmers debug when possible. [off-topic] Now, if I could just get someone to help me with my Civ5 mod attempt, posted in the Civ5 Steam forum. It is also xml code. It has been weeks now, looking like nobody knows the answer. I tried to post in the "Civilization fanatics" forum but had trouble with my acct there, and they dissed me and I refuse to deal with them (moderators) any more. [/off-topic] |

https://www.esoui.com/forums/showthread.php?t=8082 Edit: Your minion.log says: IOException: Address family not supported by protocol family: connect Search for this with an online search engine. It might be ipv6 issue or your used proxy server (if you use one). 1st find was e.g. Try to check whether the spy program called "RelevantKnowledge" is installed. Its uninstallation helped me to solve the problem. So scan your pc for malware and Spyware using Spybot search and destroy for example or other antivirus/Anti-Malware tools. |
Minion 3.0.5 and ESO Connection Issues Fixed!
Minion 3.0.5 has been unable to connect to the internet for the past 3 days on my Windows 11 desktop. I have also been having with issues with disconnecting and reconnecting constantly in games, especially ESO. I have also had issues in ESO with slow login, slow switching characters, slow changing zones with multiple disconnects during the process.
When I checked my network connection, I noticed that WiFi and ethernet were connected to the internet, despite the fact that I use a hard-wired ethernet conection on my desktop so I do not need WiFi. I checked to see if Minion was working on my WiFi-connected gaming laptop and it is so the problem is not WiFi so it must be having two active network connections.
I attempted to start Minion 3.0.5 64-bit and it immediately connected to the internet and listed my currently installed ESO AddOns. I then logged into ESO, selected and loaded a character quickly without any issues. Logging into eso is much faster and I did not experience any disconnects while doing so. Minion and ESO connection issues fixed! |
Thanks for your feedback.
If you WIFI is not needed as you connect wired just disable the Wifi at your desktop PC so it is not even trying to interfer with your Wifi and is not disturbing other connections. There is a button to disable Wifi at the right edge of your windows task bar (Not sure abotu Win 11 though). You still should use Minion 32bit version though as mentioned in the troubleshooting guide. |
It worked for me
I just disabled my PC's wifi adaptor, and poof! Minion works again. Thank you for all the hard work all of you put in on this.

Minion wont connect despite everyone tips

please help
As the thread says. Minion wont connect. Tried both 32 and 64 bit Tried turning off firewall and antivirus tried that "skip network check" (Doesn't load) you only see it in task manager |
Please do not post the same in different threads, especially not within the same day, thank you.
I already answered you in that other thread with ideas what to try: https://www.esoui.com/forums/showpos...03&postcount=7 Did you try the step #13 from the troubleshooting guide (https://www.esoui.com/forums/showthread.php?t=8082) already? -> the java ipV4 / ipv6 command in your command line? The log file clearly says it cannot connect to the servers and as it crashes I assume it's due to some blocked stuff by firewall/antivirus, and not a network issue. So either: -your firewall is blocking the access so enable/whitelist Minion.ex in your firewall, or -Step #13 of the troubleshooting guide is worth a try: Force java to use ipv4 instead ipv6, or -there eis a proxy enabled on your pc. Search online for "How to disable proxy Windows <your windows version>", e.g. here for Windows 10: https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/...5-4a61f26375e9 , or -there is malware on your PC which routes traffic elswere. Scan your PC with antivirus tools for them Or there is something else happening with your ISP which blocks the server access. Try to reboot your router/modem. |
Sorry wasn't sure if you wanted it there, but i did all that and still no connecting.

This is how the normal log file should look like:
Code:
DEBUG 2022-12-04 20:33:52,338 [JavaFX Application Thread] gg.minion.util.FeedClient:checkNetworkConnections(106): Starting network check ... Code:
DEBUG 2023-02-14 02:27:15,191 [JavaFX Application Thread] gg.minion.util.FeedClient:checkNetworkConnections(106): Starting network check ... Either your IP address might be blocked somehow, or your proxy is the problem (if you use any?) or your firewall blocks it, or the java IP setup is wrong, or there is any other software installed which blocks the network traffic. It could also be, if you user Wireless conenction (WLAN) that the connection is not stable enough, or you are using LAN (wired) and WLAN (wirelss) at the same time (read this: https://www.esoui.com/forums/showpos...1&postcount=52). Check your router log files for details about that connections to the Minion server adresses e.g. cdn.mmoui.com (if you got access to the router logs). Update your JAVA version to a new one, if not done already. If you visit https://api.mmoui.com/v3/ in your web browser do you get any security warnings? Could be that something is messing with the ESOUI ssl cert on your end. What does it say if you click on the link? Press the WIN key and type cmd, then run the command line Enter: Code:
ping cdn.mmoui.com Or what is the result? Does it say "Cannot be reached"? What about the command Code:
ping api.mmoui.com |
