Identifying Abilities
 

Is there any way to keep track of effects by using the abilityId? When abilities rank up (or morph) their abilityId and the abilityId of their effects changes.

For example, sorcerer ability:
Rank 1 (I have no idea what the abilityId's are, this is just an example)
Lightning Form: abilityId = 1234

Secondary Effects from the ability:
Major Ward: abilityId = 1255
Major Resolve: abilityId = 1265

Rank 2
Lightning Form: abilityId = 1246

Secondary Effects from the ability:
Major Ward: abilityId = 1268
Major Resolve: abilityId = 1273

Is there a way to determine, given an abilityId, if it is the same "effect" as one of its previous ranked effects? So if I have the rank 1 Major Ward abilityId 1255 & later the addon see rank 2 major ward effect abilityId 1268 the addon can know that it is the same effect? It would have to work for all effects, not just abilities so I can't use the skill line Indices.
