Question ANSI Lua and Japanese

Hi everybody,

I'm curious. How well will string operations (especially the Lua regex) work with the Japanese language version?
How well do our addons work?
What works and what not?

I have seen the first Japanese patch. Something must work

Anybody out there can give me/us some feedback, please?

It works well. But it's encoded on 3 bytes (special european chars like é are on 2 bytes).

I've self modified Skyshards to test push some strings in UI, everything works..

すべての人間は、生まれながらにして自由であり、かつ、尊厳と権利とについて平等である。人間は、理性と良心とを授けられており、互いに同胞の精神をもって行動しなければならない。
is output as

Personally I still have few tiny bugs to solve in pChat because I didn't checked the 3rd byte before I admit, but it's not really problematic.

Just a thing, the SetCVar("Language.2", "jp") don't work. the data is not in our client.

In fact for every addons excepted chat ones, theres nothing to do.
If a user wants to translate its addon UI, it's like if it was in german or french.

Thanks Ayantir

I remember the non-breakable-space (  ) utf-8 encoded = \194\160, the french translator love to use, must be replaced with the normal space = \032. Otherwise \194 is taken as a letter, while you can't see any difference in debug output.
Or the invisible |o in Wiesenschaum|okraut.

So I am pleasantly surprised. So far...

Just properly encode your files in UTF-8 and you won't have to use hex code.

So are there even any Japanese players on PC, or are they all playing on console?

@Ayantir: I'm talking about in-game text, not addon text. The strings I mentioned are in-game quest condition text and reagent name.
@sirinsidiator: At least @2ch seems to be one

I am playing Japanese version of ESO and it's great!!

I've also localized some addons and currently working on some patch to work with Japanese version.
Unfortunately, they changed some fonts (e.g. Univers 57), so some addons need to replace specific source code to ESO API.

If you have localized any of my addons, feel free to send me a pm and I'll gladly integrate your changes into them.

I prepared a small "silent" update for LibAddonMenu with support for Japanese thanks to @k0ta0uchi. Addons with Japanese support can include it (dl link). I plan to do a proper update to r21 sometime before update 11 is live.

There was a tiny mistake in all previous versions of LAM that only showed up in specific situations and that popped up a lot thanks to the updated to version r20.1 in some addons. I fixed it thanks to Randactyl and you can download r20.2 here.
