MiniMap....lol

I've been wanting to learn how to do a mini map or something like it. I was looking at ZrMiniMap by Fyrakin as an example.....I'm going to make a guess that the scroll box is for +/- y movement and the status bar is for the +/- x movement somehow?? Maybe creates tiles and deletes them as it updates?? If anyone would care to discuss this and lemme know if I'm close, it would be appreciated!! It would be an awesome feature to add to my project!!
