Question Minion keep "downloading" addons (forever)

Hi,

I tried to reinstall minion because it was everlasting scanning for some WoW installations ...

I mainly use Minion for ESO.

I found a trick in the .xml file (set true to false) and manage to bring back the window that prompts when you first run the program. I decided to uncheck the box for WoW.

Minion finally launch and detected that 2 of my ESO AddOns needed an update.

But when I clicked on "update" button, it kept "downloading" the file but nothing happens. I've waited like 5 mins, and still nothing.

Then, I decided to uninstall the addon, and to reinstall it. But the same happens.

In fact, anything I try to download keeps "downloading" and it never ends.

I can still manually dld them from other sites and install them manually in the AddOn folder (Minion detects them) but I can't download directly from Minion.

Any hint?

I'll need to see your minion0.log & minion.xml to see if that has any hints as to why.

Could be a network issue, permission issue, issue with the minion.xml or wrong addon folder location.

Here are the files required.

I'm running the 64bit version.

Thanks in advance ...

Thanks for the logs, I don't see any errors though.

I see your running an old version of the minion.xml config. Could you try the following?
  • Temporarily clear out your AddOn folder (move them to another location if you wish)
  • Rename or delete your minion.xml so Minion will create a new one
  • Restart Minion (it will act like it was just installed).
  • Once Minion is up and running try to install an AddOn from the Frind more tab. Does it work?

Hello, thanks for the answer!

So far, so good!

I was afraid because it stuck on the loading screen again, but after a very few minutes, I got a message saying that Minion detected that I already had add-ons installed. I ask for not installing them.

Then I searched for the ones I needed, reinstalled them via "Install" button, and now it works fine.

Thank you for your help, I'll try to remember this workaround if I got the same problem again.

Thanks also for your incredible job! GG ^^

Same issue for me

I wasn't sure if there was a way to submit a ticket or if I just post to the forums but I'm having the exact issue as above. Unfortunately the steps mentioned previously didn't resolve it. My error log does have an error about a mismatch on the MD5 compare. I've tried installing both SkyShard and Lorebook addons and neither finish 'downloading'.
I will note the zip file appears to be created once (in the ..\AddOns\ folder)I tell it to install the addon but it never finishes downloading (can't open the zip if I try to open it manually).

I also tried running minion as administrator just in case with no luck as well.

My setup:
Win10 Pro 64bit
i7 4790k
32gb Ram
512 SSD drive with over 300gb available
Kaspersky anti-virus (although I told it to disable while trying this with no change)

I also attached the xml file but I edited out the auth and refresh tokens within the xml.

Question Update

as an update, I have been able to install some addon's but many just get stuck on the infinite downloading status. Each time the error log shows that md5 message. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Sounds like for some reason downloads are not finishing for you. What happens if you download the addon manually from our website? Can you open the zip then?

Another thing to try... rename the zip file it download (the one you can't open) to .txt and open it in notepad or your favorite text editor. Do you see html or some text? We switched to a new CDN provider (Cloudflare) and wondering if the CDN server near you cached an error page or something.

Got this "downloading forever" bug yesterday too.
But it only happened for the Destinations addon (as 1 of 5 updated addons).
Minion downloaded only a 23kb file and the file was corrupt afterwards.

As I downloaded it manually it worked perferctly.

Edit:
As I downloaded another Destinations update today everything worked perfect. Seems to be some temprorary trouble with connections somehow.

If/When this happens again try opening the corrupt zip file in a text editor. Does it look like a partial file download or is it maybe some html/txt with an error? I'm just wondering if our new CDN throwing an error page and Minion is trying to download it as the zip?

Same issue MD5 mismatch on some addons

I'm having this issue as well. Some addons are installing fine, others downloading "corrupt" 24 kb zip files. Logs are giving me MD5 mismatch errors. Permissions are all set correctly, and Minion is running as admin.

Thanks!

Thanks Foonchie that helped alot. The zipfile is actually a html page showing our maintenance page (rename it to .txt).

We recently moved servers (about a week ago) and during that move we put up a page that said our site is currently under maintenance. It looks like the CDN has cached that message for some of the file downloads in certain areas of the country/world.

I just sent a request to purge all cache related to downloads so hopefully in about an hour everything will be fine.

Sorry for the trouble.

I have this problem now.
It stucks like this: http://i.imgur.com/L2Tn1oU.png
and creates always 3kb MiniMap.zip file in AddOns folder.
I close Minion, remove this zip file and retry downloading addon from Minion but still always stucks with 3kb downloaded zip file.
Contents of this zip file is actually zip not text.
When I tried to download another addon from "Find more" tab it worked fine so it only stucks with MiniMap addon.

1st :Provide your minion.log file here so one can check WHICH addon and WHAT problem there might exist.
No log file -> no way to help.

Check which addon is downloading forever.
Manually install the addon that causes problems and exclude it's Minion update via right click within Minion. You need to manually check for addon updates then for this adon.

Or:

Make a backup of your addons folder manually (not via Minion!) and try to delete the Minion.xml file so it
get's reset.
Then try to setupü Minion new, let it scan your addons and try if the update works now.
Always run Minion as admin, 32bit mode of the application even on a 64bit Operating System, and allow Minion and the c:\users\your user name\documents\elder scrolls online fodler + subfolders in antivirus/Windows defender (whitelist).
