2.0.12-Alpha works!

That version also works for me, if left "un-updated".

I assume the "update" it wants to do actually rolls back to some 2.0.11x version that breaks again.

So, I'm on the 2.0.12 Alpha at this point, and it seems to be running fine for me.

I found main problem of this program.. If you reinstall/update you got file
Code:
C:\Users\..yourusername..\AppData\Local\Minion\app\package.cfg
with EMPTY data at
Code:
app.classpath=
There should be
Code:
app.classpath=C:\Users\..yourusername..\AppData\Local\Minion\app\Minion-jfx.jar
This works for me after few previous and this update.. Until this solve i got javafx, and every possible error writed under posts

I tried this suggestion with the latest (Minion2.0.11b-beta), but it still didn't work for me.
Staying with Minion2.0.12-alpha and ignoring update seems my only option, which is fine for now. At least it is useable.

We are still trying to track this down, we know whats causing it but not sure why yet. I think the fix Scarah posted was for a different issue.

This option continues to work for me as well - 2.0.12-alpha is the only thing that's working for at the moment.

For those of you that are running the 2.0.12-Alpha version can you do the follow:

Please open a command prompt and type the following and copy & paste the results here:

Code:
nslookup localhost
Code:
ipconfig /displaydns
Details on the issue:

The issue is JUnique not being able to bind to a random port on localhost. It does this to make sure there is only 1 copy of Minion running at a time. Allowing more than 1 Minion application to be open at a time causes all sorts of problems. So we disabled this in 2.0.12-Alpha to narrow down the problem. So that's why we are asking for the above network information because we believe there is something abnormal with your localhost configuration.

We are thinking of possibly changing the bind to a null address but the above information should help us determine if thats a route we should take.

Thanks for your help

Success!

Success!

Checked my hosts file and found that I still had localhost mapped to an IP of another system on my local network that I was using for testing a server on, but haven't used for a long time.

So I changed localhost back to 127.0.0.1 in my hosts file.
Uninstalled 2.0.12-Alpha.
Re-installed 2.0.11b-beta.
Launched Minion and no error!

Thanks!

Sounds like there is an issue with your minion.xml can you post yours?
Its located in C:\Users\<your username>\.minion\

Should probably post your minion0.log too so we can see the errors. Its in that same folder.

BTW what was in the above alpha client is now in the latest version on http://minion.mmoui.com

Dolby, I am also having the JavaFX error, and have not been able to use Minion since the latest minion update, I believe.

Hi Aryea,

Delete your minion.xml file and restart Minion. Minion will hang if the file is blank.

If you still have trouble please post your new log.

Unhappy Still broken, now worse...

Well, I'm still unable to actually execute anything other than 2.0.12-alpha. All other versions still generate that launcher error and fail to even start the application.

Now, however, I'm doubly-screwed, because while 2.0.12-alpha starts up, and begins Loading, since Update 5 it hangs there... I'm looking at the bar bouncing back and forth as it stalls and fails to completely load up the addons I have.

I've uninstalled and re-installed, and deleted the minion.xml file, etc. It seems to start from scratch, trying to re-scan the addons, and then stalls.

So... at this point I haven't got any version of Minion that actually works

EricBLivingston do you have a custom hosts file that maybe changes your localhost or some special network setup that mondifies 127.0.0.1?

Ever since 2.0.13 Minion now binds to 127.0.0.1 (instead of localhost) so it can tell if the program is already running. It does this so if you try and launch Minion again and its already running it will just open the instance that is already running instead of spawning a 2nd instance of Minion causing all sorts of problems.

So If you have any custom network settings or host file configs please let me know.

Hosts file and networking

Well, I tried all different configurations. The only reference to 127.0.0.1 in my Hosts was:

127.0.0.1 localhost PostgreSQL

So, I tried altering that line to:

127.0.0.1 localhost

That had no effect, so I tried removing the line altogether, and that had no effect either.

I don't have any other odd or non-standard network that I can see.

Any progress, or anything else I might be able to try? My Minion's been nonfunctional for quite some time now and I'm pretty bummed about it - I can't do addons without it!

Can you post the minion0.log using the 2.0.12 Alpha client? That should give me a hint at what it doesn't like about the API that changed for one of the latest releases.

We are working on upgrading Minion to run on JRE8 and it looks to have fixed many of the edge case bugs. We are still testing and re-writing a few things. Hoping this new version will fix your problem. I'll certainly let you know when we have a version we can release for testing.
