Bot Scanner 2000  Popular! (More than 5000 hits)
Version: 1.5.1
by: Drummerx04 [More]
Are you tired of seeing enormous bot trains all over tamriel, but it takes too much time to report them? Worry no more! The Bot Scanner 2000 is here to assist you in your righteous crusade!

How To Use:
Keybinding -> it's a 3 way toggle, (open window and scan, pause scan, close window)

I found a video posted to Youtube by HeroOfNone which sells this thing better than I can

Also endorsed by Rich Lambert apparently!
(Here is the name drop a little later)

Then just look at the bots with your targeting cursor to create the list.
Mouse over their names in the list and...

Mouse 1: Selects the target for whispering
Mouse 2: Opens the right click menu and provides several familiar options
Shift+Mouse 1: Opens the report player window and populates the entire player report window for you!

Then just click Submit

Slash Commands:
/bot scan -> reveal scanner and begin scanning all players that fall under your targetting reticle and storing them in an a useable window (drag the window by the edge to move)
/bot fin -> close the scanner and clear all data
/bot clear -> clear the content of the scanner (but don't close or open window)
/bot pause -> stop scanning, but leave the window open
/bot hide -> pause scanning, hide window, does not clear stored data
/bot show -> reveal the scanner window

A decent question was posted in the comments section about how to tell bots from actual humans, so I'll include that answer here.
Usually you can tell a bot from a player by going down a simple checklist:
  1. Does the character come to a complete stop right in front of a mob (every mob) before engaging? Even ranged bots do this.
  2. Do all character attacks happen with about a 2 second delay, and always about the same delay?
  3. Actual players will often walk sideways or backwards, bots never do.
  4. Are there multiple characters in the same location (usually very close together) doing everything else on this list?
  5. I included a screenshot or two showing a bot train of 3-4 pet sorc bots in Stormhaven.
  6. Pet sorcs are by far the most common bot type.
  7. If you run ahead of the player train and kill all their mobs, do they still follow the same path and never complain in zone about you stealing their grind spot or something?
  8. Have you whitnessed similar behavior in the same area? Bots are usually set out in the same locations for each zone because there is actually something like mats to grind.
  9. Does their @name actually look like a word/phrase/name? Bot names are often generated.
Bots are discrete in the sense that they don't make a lot of noise. But once you start looking for them, you will always find them, and they can never be unseen again. I would estimate that about a third of players you encounter in the wilderness are actually bots.

Coincidentally, when I went to test this lasted update, it took me over 30 minutes to find a bot... My friend suggests that ZOS's crown selling simply cut into the profits of gold sellers so bad that the bot masters simply moved to a different game.
1.5.1
  • Fixed a bug where the "Reported" label would not properly attach to a player in the scan list
  • The scan list is no longer sorted alphabetically. It is now sorted again in the order you find the targets. Clicking the list label reverses the order
  • Added a button to clear the scan list
  • The three way toggle keybind no longer clears the scan list upon closing the window
1.5
  • Updated the addon to use proper lists for cleaner presentation.
  • Ticket List now stores the date of the tickets you've sent. Old tickets will get marked as being sent at the first log in after this update. Subsequent tickets will have the correct time displayed.
  • Added a more user friendly shortcut for generating the report. Shift+Left Click will now generate the report (Mouse 3 still does the report for those poor souls who got used to my bad design choices)

Currently the addon does not track the list of reported players/bots outside the game session. The assumption was that on average, one player would not encounter the same bot regularly enough across sessions to count as abuse of the system.

Keyboard shortcut problem.

I had a problem with the keyboard shortcut which didn't worked.
I solve it in the binding.xml file. Just replace the second line :

<Layer name="general">

by :

<Layer name="SI_KEYBINDINGS_CATEGORY_GENERAL">

And it works now.

Very nice addon! I use it regularly, (unfortunately) and recommend it to my friends, guildmates, and even strangers, who want to take up the fight against botting. Thanks for this very handy tool!

Personally the alphabetical sorting makes it harder for me to report. Especially when you have a long list of entries.

It's been difficult actually finding the bots to test changes lately, so this one got by me. Thanks for the feedback.

Edit: I just uploaded a fix and some usability improvements based on your feedback. The list once again is formed in the order in which you spot players. (Clicking "Bot List" label now reverses the direction of the list)

Ooh, that's clever! I guess it makes sense that they are selling though certain guilds, but I'm not super familiar with how common that is.

I was under the impression that most bots operated through a guild owned by the bot master, so ultimately every member of the guild is essentially a bot and thus would not be reported by real players.

Check to your guild members

hi,
i have another idea/feature for the addon:

The scan results can be checked to your (trading) guilds rosters. If there are bot accounts in the guilds you get a notification.

I am still using the addon and it helps tremendoulsy

This forum might be a good place to report bot-train locations. The more locations players know where to check for bots, the easier it becomes to report them.
That's a pretty decent idea, I'll try to incorporate it when I get around to my next update.

I include it more for the Addon user than for ZOS. I find it more satisfying to be 100% certain that All relevant information is getting to ZOS, so I suspect other people will as well. And if it's more satisfying to them, they may report more bots.

Frankly all the info included in the ticket description is probably included or directly discoverable to ZOS except for "Player was seen botting"

Thanks

Thank you for creating this. Sick and tired of watching bots storm in and attack empty dolmens. Sent my first report about five minutes after installing.

Thanks, I needed a first solo project to get started with and this was one of my only practical ideas.

I got my toes wet with the latest Kill Counter update and then sort of wound up doing this as well
