FCO Chat Tab Brain  Updated this week!  Popular! (More than 5000 hits)
Version: 0.3.8
by: Baertram [More]
IMPORTANT CHANGE - Version 0.3.8
This addon depends on the following libraries:
-LibStub (to load the libraries below properly)
-LibAddonMenu-2.0
-LibLoadedAddons

Attention:
You can manually download the standalone libraries from the links above.
-> Be sure to check the extraction of the zip files! They must NOT create another subfolder in AddOns containing the name of the zip archive itsself! Example:
zip filename: LiBStub_v1_4.zip
Extracted to:
AddOns\LibStub_v1_4\LibStub -> WRONG!
Extracted to:
AddOns\LibStub -> CORRECT!

Or use Minion to download them.

You may need to close and restart the game to recognize the new libraries in the addon manager!
[/size]

Enabling addons ingame again
If one of this depending library is missing you cannot enable the addon ingame!
So please check the dependencies of the addon ingame.
The best possible way is to install "Votans Addon List" addon which will seperate the addons from the libraries.
It will show you the dependencies at each addon line, right column, as tooltip for the "red" icon (if an addon is disabled and cannot be enabled). Scroll down to the libraries at the bottom and enable the ones needed for the addon then.

Comments / feedback / "Netiquette"
If you post comments about the addon not working anymore and haven't read and understood what is written here, it is not the addon's nor the developers fault!
Just ask if you do not understand it, but tell me you have read this text! If not I won't answer or just write "Description" as a hint.
Please keep in mind we do this on our free time and are not able to play this nice game if we need to work on the addons.

So:
If you show me you have read this text and ask in a kind way I'll help you for sure.
If not...
Rude answeres/comments will force me to remove the addon totally from pulbic.
This might make other ppl really angry with you and you can be sure I'll make your posts public so they can complain directly towards you.
So please think before you ink and remember: This software is for free. We invest our free time for you.
Think what it was like playing the game without addons and then rethink your text before you write
You got no rights to force me to do anything here Many thanks, I appreciate your help and understanding.

Why do I do this
This change is needed to reduce maintaining time of all the 30+ addons I need to keep updated.
Each patch or change of a library will need me to update ALL addons even if only the libraries need an update Excahnging the librarie folders within the adodn, backing things up, testing them, building the ZIP files and write changelog here needs me to invest about 5-10 minutes for EACH addon
By removingg the libraries and let you install them as standalone "addon" I'm not forced to update the addons if the libraries change. This will save me hours of work!

Please support me with this, install the libraries as standalone once via e.g. Minion and your addons will be set to work normally again + you gain the benefit to be able to update the libraries via Minion automatically as they are updated, and all addons will recognize it automatically without having you to need to wait for an update of each/or at least one addon containing the new library files.
+ the folder size of your AddOns folder decreases a lot if the libraries only need to be "ONCE" in the folder, and not also in each subfolder of the addons.!
+ I might use the gained time to work on fixing addons or adding new features as well.

Explanations:

Standalone library
"Not included" in other addons zip files.
You need to download the zip file of the "library" and install it alone, as if it would be a whole addon.
You got the library then in your AddOns folder like AddOns\LibStub (like an addon is shown the same way, e.g. AddOns\FCOItemSaver).

You need to close the game! If you install the standalone libraries with the game started they are not recognized properly. So close the game client or restart it before/after the standlaone libraries are installed.

Benefits:
For me:
More time to play the game again and maybe maintain the addons better as I do not need to update each time if the library changes and can focus on the needed stuff.
-> So you might benefit fom it as well

For you:
You will be automatically able to update the libraries as standalone versions via Minion e.g. and are also up2date all the time.
Depending addons will recognize it automatically and need no addon update if simply the library needed an update.

Library
Libraries are code line which can be re-used in other code lines (addons e.g.). The LibAddonMenu-2.0 is for example a library which provides the standard UI and controls for the ingame settings so adodns are able to provide these settings (checkboxes, dropdown, texts, buttons) for you.

Included libraries were only included into the addons to make life easier for you, the users, in the beginning of ESO. And there was a kind of bug which did not allow standalone libraries to be used properly, which got fixed meanwhile.

Loading of libraries
The game assures via the library LibStub that libraries (included in other addons or standalone versions) will only load the newest version.
So if a standalone library is loaded with the highest/newest version, the included libraries in other addons won't be loaded again. One could even strip them from the other addons as well to fullfill the purpose of a "library": Reusable code for several other code (addons).

The game will load addons + libraries in the following order:
Unsorted loading of ALL folders which are inside the folder AddOns.
It checks the folders if there are txt files in.
It reads the txt files and check sif in there is specified if this folder is DependendOn or OptionallyDependendOn any other folder (addon, library).
If dependencies are found it will load the dependencies first, and then the addon/library which depends on them.

So as basically every library is depended on LibStub the game will load the folder LibStub (standalone library) first, or LibStub from any of the subfolders of an addon (included librray) if not found as standalone.

The most important thing is the txt file (called: manifest) which gives the information about version, api version it was build for (will be compared ingame with the game's api version and if the version in the TXt is lower than ingame the addon/library will be "disabled" in the ingame addon manager until you enable the checkbox "Allow out of date addons"!), dependencies of the addon/library.

Conclusion
If you understand this, what libraries are, how they work, read the description of addons properly: You will have no trouble in the future.

If you do not want to read, just press buttons to update/auto update everything without thinking, you do not want to understand/learn how eso addons work, but only use them: You might get in trouble in the future. But I bet there are other addons out there which fullfill your needs then (if they will not be changed to use standalone libraries as well, which might happen earlier then you think ).

Thanks for your support.

FCO Chat Tab Brain

Application is Fast API ready

Newest features:
-Settings to remember the last active chat tab at logout/reloadui -> Automatically set the last active chat tab after login/reloadui again

The changelog was moved to the appropriate panel, because Minion will finally be able to show the changelog correctly too. Plesae click on the blue text "Changelog" inside Minion's addon popup.

FCO Chat Tab Brain brings you the brain for your chat tabs:
  • Options to set the fade out time of the chat window and chat window buttons (after a contact cam online/went offline, mails were received, notifications were added, ...) separately
  • Will remember the last used channel and the last contacted person, for each of your chat tabs
  • will automatically change to a chat tab (you chose it) upon incoming chat messages (like "open group chat tab if group chat comes in"). A chat inactivity time can pe set to avoid changing tabs as you are still reading
  • Play more then 500 different sounds upon incoming chat messages, dinstinguished by receiving chat channel (whisper, guild 1, guild 2, say, etc.), keywords or ignored account-/character-names
-> See the file "ESO_sound_list.nfo" inside the ZIP archive for a list of all sounds, and their number (choose/enter this number at the settings panel ingame to hear a test playing)
  • Switch to last incoming chat channel (e.g. /guild1) automatically if you start your next outgoing chat message. Your message will be sent in (e.g. /guild1) then and you just need to press RETURN, type your text and send it.
  • Change chat tab header color to light blue if a message came in and you are not currently active at this chat tab
  • Enables you to mark/unmark all chat tab options with one click
  • You will be able to change your chat tabs by keybndings
  • You will be able to cycle the chat tabs left/right by keybindings
  • You will be able to show/hide the chat window by keybindings too
  • Redirect your outgoing whisper messages to one selected chat tab. All your whispers will be send and received in the same, clean, chat tab!
  • Activate your whisper chat tab automatically upon incoming whispers (only if you do not write text currently!)
  • The annoying chat buttons + labels (friends, mail, messages) can be hidden even if the friends online/messages/mails are > 0 (You'll have to enable the ESO standard option for the chat fade out/transparency!)
  • The minimized chat will hide all buttons and only show the small corner texture
  • Use keybindings to switch between the last chat channels of incoming chat messages

And many other possibilities...

This will only work with the standard ESO chat tabs!

Many thanks to the following people:
-Garkin, for the help with the chat tab code!

What is the idea of this addon?

Do you use different chat tabs to distinguish between zone chat, guilds, party, whispers, etc.?
Ever got annoyed from the chat not remembering your last channel you talked in, after you switched the different chat tabs?
You talked to your party, switched to your guil, strat to write a message and your party will get it?
So you need to manually enter /g1 in the chat, after you change the tab to your guild, and then you can finally start to write text...
You can change the chat tab to a special one that you like to check, or just cycle the tabs to the left/right using keybindings. This will even work during fighting, so you won't miss your guild's messages anymore, when they plan to do this particular vet. dungeon you wanted to join.

This disturbing handling is history now!

FCO Chat Tab Brain will remember everything for you. Even after relogging it will put you the last used chat channel into each tab as you select the tabs!

How to use this addon?

Download the addon, enable it, have a look at the settings and start to chat.
The brain will remember, for each of your chat tabs, which channel (e.g. zone, party, guild1, tell, etc.) you talked in and which contact person you have written to (for a /tell or /whisper).
-> You will have to succesfuly send a message to the chat tab so "the brain" get's active for the current chat tab!

You could also use chat commands:

/fcochattabbrain <parameter>
/fcoctb <parameter>

Supported parameters
'help' / 'list': Shows information
'status' / '': Shows the current status
'on': Enable the chat tab brain
'off': Disable the chat tab brain
'toggle': Enable/Disable the hat tab brain

Compatibility
Currently nly compatible with the stanndard ESO chat container!

-LibLoadedAddons

Please download them as standalone! versions and close the game client before/afterwards, restart the game.

-Added: Sound notification for guild master messages in the chat
-Fixed: Priorization for the chat message sounds (group leader, guild master, friend, text from whitelist, chat channel sound, character/acocunt name sound) will now work properly.
->If you e.g. were not grouped and the group leader sound was setup as standard, no sound was played for the chat channel at least
-Fixed: Settings menu shows language and savemethod (Accoutn wide, each character) again

0.3.5
-Added a keybinding to cycle through the last incoming messages's chat channels at the current chat tab:

If you get a mail, notification or customer support message the affected icon will be shown again at the minimized bar.
Same for a player status change of your friendslist.

0.3.3
-Fixed: Whisper chat tab switch not working sometimes
-Added: Sound for the group leader. It's located in the settings at the sound for groups.

-Updated: Security checks for supported chat channels

0.1.9
-Added feature: Option ON/OFF to show chat tab header in light blue color if a message arrived and you were active at another tab.
Example:
You are currently writing a whisper message and a message arrives from your guild 1. The chat tab won't change to your guild tab as you are currently writing. But the guild chat tab header will change it's color to light blue so you see there are new messages.
-Added feature: Also enable whisper message idle time, like the other idle times too
-Added feature: Option to 'Change chat channel to whisper':
Reckognize incoming whisper messages and enable answering to the sender by pressing RETURN key, if you are at the whisper tab (old behaviour: Pressing RETURN key started a whisper message to the last whispered person and you had to use 'Reply to whisper' keybinding to answer the last incoming sender)
-Updated: Removed smaller bugs, redone all the coding to speed it up and removed unneeded checks for outgoing messages or incoming messages from monsters/NPCs

-Fixed bug: If you have set a chat tab as e.g. the guild1 tab, and aftwerds you removed the guild1 chat channel output from this tab, in the tab's settings, the tab was still automatically opened and the sound was played upon an incoming guild1 message
-Smaller bugfixes and translation fixes

0.1.7
-Added feature: Automatically switch the chat channel to the chat channel of the last incoming chat message (if you currently use the chat tab where this chat channel was selected by yourself to be used).
If you are currently using another chat tab the chat channel will not be changed and will be kep at the current chat channel at this chat tab

Example:
-Incoming /guild1 message
-Addon switches automatically to the chat tab where you have setup the guild1 chat to be used
-If you press RETURN now to start a chat message the chat channel will automatically be switched to /guild1 and you just need to type and send your answer

0.1.6
Added feature: Play sounds for incoming chat messages.
-A sound can be set individually for each chat channel.
-Sounds won't be played if you are currently at the chat tab where the chat message arrives. This setting can be disabled for each chat channel!

-Added feature: Automatically change to a chat tab (you chose it) upon incoming chat messages

Examples:
Open group chat tab if group chat comes in / Open sy chat if say message comes in / Open guild2 chat if guild2 chat comes in / etc.
-A chat inactivity time for each chat channel (say, yell, group, guild 1-5, officer 1-5, sytem) can be set to avoid changing tabs as you are still reading.
-If you are moving the mouse in and out of the chat or you are typing text, changing tabs manually the automatic tab changing will not be triggered (you ar active in the chat then)
-Settings to avoid automatic chat tab changes if you are grouped are included!
-Exceptions for grouped + whispers are included as well

-Added feature: Minimize chat on login/zone change/reload
-Updated translations (Many thx to Chou again for the french texts!)

0.1.3a

3. Mark/Unmark all guilds

0.1.0 - > 0.1.1
-Added feature: Automatically switch to whisper chat tab upon incoming whispers. Needs you to specify your chat tab in the settings at the "Chat whisper redirect".
This will only happen if you are not wrtiting text at the moment.
-Fixed a bug in the settings that prevented the chat whispr redirect deactivation. You will be able to enter the disabling value "0" now!

0.0.9c - > 0.1.0
Added "whisper redirect" function: Clean whispering only in 1 chat tab!

If you use several chat tabs, and especially 1 chat tab for your incoming whispers, you will love this new feature:
(o) Choose your whisper chat tab number in the settings (value=0 means "whisper redirect" is disabled!)
(o) If you start a whisper, no matter how you start it, the whisper chat tab will be opened and your message will be send from here

-> Only 1 single chat tab to send and receive your whispers
-> No more started whispers in several different chat tabs, which will need you to manually change the chat channel again (to guild or group e.g.)
-> Simply use ChatTabBrain keybindings to switch through your chat tabs, press RETURN key and start to write in this channel

Will redirect you to the whisper chat tab if you:
-Autocomplete a whisper name by pressing the TAB key, using the mouse or the keyboard UP and DOWN keys to select an auto complete entry
-Reply to an incoming whisper by keybinding
-Start a whisper by using the chat commands
-Start a whisper by using the mouse's right click context-menu (at the guild roster, friends-list etc.)
-Send a new whisper message text

To come:
-Directly switch to whisper chat tab if you left click a player in the chat (currently this will only select his name and if you write the whisper message and press RETURN the whisper channel will be shown)
-Same for the right mouse button context menu at a player in the chat

I remember that addon - was called "Multiple Chat Tabs" or something like that. It was discontinued when they learned you could accidentally delete your main chat tab (the one that has notifications you can't manually assign in any of the other chat tabs), after it broke a few player's games
Yes, now that you remention this "bug" I remember it too Weird "features" in the base game...

(I knew the reason why; it wasn't a complaint, just a comparison. I know why Librarian tops the list, too, and not complaining about that either; it can take as much storage as it needs! The result is worth the wait.)

TOM should be getting pretty big savedvars as well then if the history is kept over days/weeks.
Indeed, I just checked and it's 974KB after some weeks of use. That is hardly the biggest SavedVariables file: Librarian tops the list at a whopping 4762KB, and WishList in second place with 2942KB (even though I haven't "wished" a single thing yet). I have one TOM setting - whispers? - configured to save history for an entire 365 days, but a few weeks isn't enough time to see just what a mess I can cause with that setting. I'm terrified of my poor memory and what I will forget next, but I may have to just suffer some of it.

But as my time is limited I'm not going to adopt FCOCTB to other chat addons anymore.
You need to use the standard UI's chat window (what for I've created FCOCTB as some functions were missing imo too, like auto answer in the correct chat tab and redirect answers and messages to other tabs like other games do; play sounds; color the chat tab header if new messages appear, etc.)
Nope, not asking for any adaptation! I was just hoping someone had experimented with both and could outline potential pitfalls. You mention changing the coloration of chat tabs with incoming events, though, so that might also be an alternative to TOM's alerts. That would leave the extended chat history as the only reason I might need TOM, but maybe there are leaner alternatives for just that, too.

I will be the crazy fool who tries both, starting today, and learns what does and doesn't work between them. I may discover that my first choice wasn't the best one.

Re: TOM and Chat Tab Brain together?

Hi, I'm not using nor used to TOM so I'm of no help for you this time I gues.
But FCOChatTabBrain only is developed to work within and with the original ZOs chat window, no other chat container addons which duplicate or remove the ingame chat window.

I'd say try it out and maybe it works in conjunction with TOM.

Truth be told, it seems like the only way to truly fix Zenimax's horrid chat UI is to replace it outright, but I'm not even sure if such a transplant is even possible. I don't really need to have both the TOM frame and the default chat frame cluttering the screen, except that TOM lacks an actual input field and relies on the default chat frame for that.

Now I've discovered Baertram has another useful bit of code here that in fact seems to do what I wanted with the [Enter] key. Has anyone else been using Chat Tab Brain successfully in conjunction with TOM? Are there any potential conflicts that can be avoided - or not - with configuration of the two? TOM still has value to me as an archivist to augment my own horrid memory of past conversation and a visual alert of chat events that I don't want to miss.

No, you just have to setup your 7 chat tabs in the addon settings.
So which setting is not working?
If your last chat tab before logout was g1, it should be g1 after login again.

There is only an option to activate the last chat tab used!
If you talked for example at chat tab "Guilds" by logout the addon will show the chat tab "Guild" after login again sobs not the standard games chat tab.

This addon won't show the chat text from before logout.
Please check addon pChat for that.
I mainly just use default tab (chat), but I created 7 other tabs (whispers, group, g1, g2, g3, g4, g5). In order to your addon to work, do I need to enable your tabs first?
