CraftCompare  Popular! (More than 5000 hits)
Version: 1.12
by: ckaotik [More]
Notice: My game time has expired so there will not be any updates in the near future!

This simple addon will display your currently equipped item(s) when crafting items. It applies to the following crafting modes:
  • Creation
  • Improvement
  • Deconstruction
  • Research

You can compare to your alternate weapon set by holding down the SHIFT button. Otherwise, comparisons are always against your active equipment.

By default, comparisons will be displayed within the game's PopupTooltip. This tooltip is created by the default UI and can be moved and closed.
If there is more than one item that has to be compared against (e.g. when crafting a 2h-weapon while wearing sword and shield), the second item will be displayed in a custom tooltip so both relevant items are visible.
You may also choose to display comparisons using ComparativeTooltips that are also used by the default UI. These tooltips will only be shown while you hover an equipment item in your inventory and are therefore not available in Creation and Improvement modes.

If you like the idea of this addon, but don't quite like the way it uses those tooltips or would like to have your full equipment viewable while crafting, take a look at NogsSimpleCraftingTooltip

Changes in 1.12:
- Don't show hide animation on PopupTooltip since people reported problems with invisible tooltips afterwards.

Changes in 1.11:
- Updated API version
- Included Zenimax' disclaimer
- Improved tooltip animations and added some spacing here and there
- Combined crafting mode toggle and crafting comparison style settings
- Updated settings panel to use LibAddOnMenu-2.0. You can now find the settings under Settings > AddOn Settings > Stacked

Changes in 1.10:
- Improved tooltip behavior to use animations and feel more ESO-ish
- Enabled alternate weapon set comparison for ComparativeTooltip style
- Added item style to tooltips (can be disabled in the settings panel)
- Fixed ComparativeTooltips left behind when also using InventoryInsight
- Updated API version

Changes in 1.9:
- Fixed comparing to alternate weapon set when your secondary set is equipped. (Before, toggling via SHIFT only had an effect when using the primary weapon set)

Changes in 1.8:
- Added comparing to alternate weapon set. Simply hold down SHIFT on any PopupTooltip style comparison!
- Fixed PopupTooltip showing up when closing the crafting dialog
- Reverted "Equipped" and item style text display in PopupTooltip, since it might collide with owned and/or binding information already present.

Changes in 1.7:
- Added my own tooltip frame - finally! No more jumping tooltips!
- Added item style information to PopupTooltip comparisons.
- Added tooltip frame for deconstruct mode, so PopupTooltip style should now be easier to understand in this mode.

Changes in 1.6:
- Fixed jumping tooltips when switching modes.
- Fixed tooltip showing in research mode when nothing is selected.
- Hopefully fixed lua error.

Changes in 1.5:
- Vastly cleaned up the code
- Fixed incompatibility with MultiCraft
- Added PopupTooltip style for research mode
- You now no longer need to /reloadui when changing tooltip styles
- Tooltip styles may now be set individually for deconstruct/research

Changes in 1.4:
- Fixed: settings frame was missing

Changes in 1.3:
- Fixed: comparison tooltips not showing occasionally if they were shown before crafting
- Fixed: Hide ComparativeTooltip1 (for secondary item comparisons) when hiding crafting PopupTooltip

Changes in 1.2:
- changed saved variables to global namespace
- hide comparison tooltips when closing crafting dialog
- hide secondary comparison when hiding PopupTooltip
- properly display ComparativeTooltip when extracting
- hide PopupTooltip when extracting and using ComparativeTooltip

Changes in 1.1:
- added settings panel labeled "CraftCompare"
- added alternative comparison: Users can now choose between PopupTooltip and ComparativeTooltip
- added comparisons to extraction (both tooltip styles) and research modes (only available when using ComparativeTooltip style)

Just for the record: It has been working just fine with "Load outdated addons" enabled

I've been working on an update the last weeks and just published it. For detailed info on what has changed, check out the changelog tab

Indeed, so it would seem. Thanks for the info. However, I don't have a quick fix at hand since it's most likely related to the fade-in/out animations the default item tooltip gets.

For a temporary workaround, hover an item in your regular inventory. Any ComparativeTooltips that it shows will get their animations fixed by the default UI and should work again properly after that.

Yes, this is currently intended.

Looks to be an issue with the ComparativeTooltip under Tooltip Style. The PopupTooltip style doesn't cause the issue but they each function in a different manner in the deconstruct window.

The ComparativeTooltip shows the piece you have when you're selecting an item of that slot when you hover over it. The PopupTooltip only shows the window once you've selected to deconstruct an item.

Also, not sure if its meant to be like this, but moving a window with the PopupTooltip doesn't save that window to the location you've selected.

Hrm, when do you expect the tooltips to show and what are your settings? I'm using the same version & client and have not had this issue. However, I use a fair amount of addons Will need some testing and feedback, I suppose.

The comment below yours states the same, I'll try and take at look at it on the weekend.

Thx for this great addon, its very useful :-)
I have two problems with version 1.9.0 on german client with no other addons loaded:

- the popup tooltips are not shown (comparative tooltips works)
- the tooltips stay on screen if I additionally use the addon Inventory Insight, it seems there is some incompatibility between your addon and Inventory Insight

I'm having an issue with the tooltip remaining on the screen after exiting the crafting station.

This is the compare in the crafting station:

This is what happens when I hit Alt to Exit:

That tooltip will remain on screen. It appears that it's only the Offhand tooltip that is doing it and it's only in the Deconstruct window.

Did not had the error yet with the latest version.

I know this is "CraftCompare" but woud it be possible to add the tooltips to the repair window?
I often just repair the gear I have equiped, I save the old parts for analysis. Therefor I don't have to repair them. So I always have to remember what I have equiped when I repair items..

Good to know. Sorry about that
Indeed, good to know! Apparently my function hooks came into action a little too late which caused them not to be called at all. I fixed this in version 1.5.

This update will reset your settings.
There are also a few quality of life improvements in that new version, among them PopupTooltip comparisons in research mode.
Hey guys,

First of all, my apologies. I'm actively rewriting MultiCraft in a much better manner atm. It's about halfway complete. I'm pretty sure this was mostly because I was being horrible and overwriting table functions for the various crafting tables in a bad way. I have CraftCompare running at all times now though, and both addons work together nicely in the new version. I should have an update out later today.
