You can use the addon "TextureIt" ingame to search and see the path.
Or the tool BlackBookBrowser (not on Minion! manual download here from the Addons -> Tools section) to search the game files directly on your disk.
I used BBB and the file is updated now, as you suggested.

Is there really the need to re-add them as external files in the addons folder again?
Can't you just link to the path of the ESO *.dds texture file instead?
Instead of e.g.
"LoreFriendlySupportIcons/icons/ava_borderkeep_pin_aldmeri.dds",
Use:
"/esoui/ar...

EDIT: I copied the section for Skyrim from FCOMounty and now I have pets in Skyrim :)
EDIT: the same method can still be used for the newer DLC's as well, at some point it'll probably break, but
for now it's still working fine

Maybe you have to use
equiptype("head")

I've recently noticed that the addon cannot be enabled for specific characters anymore, it's either enabled for all chars or none. This used to work fine in the past and I'm not entirely sure when it broke, since I mainly quest on a Khajiiti char, but I noticed some day that one of my non-Khajiiti chars suddenly spoke Khajiit too ;)...
