SkyShards
  • Adds map pins for Skyshards to the world map and compass.
  • Does not override ZOS functionality. Not in Keyboard or Gamepad mode*
*ZOS does not provide a reasonable Gamepad API, consider it unsupported

This addon requires use of the following libraries:
In-game configuration is in the SETTINGS -> Addon Settings -> SkyShards menu,
or use command /skyshards

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Slash commands:

Code:
/skyshards		Settings menu
/myloc Prints your current location to the chat window.
/mypos			Same as /myloc

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

How to manually install addon:
  1. Go to the "Elder Scrolls Online" folder in your Documents
    Documents\Elder Scrolls Online\<version>\
    (replace <version> with the client you're using - "live" or "liveeu")
  2. You should find an AddOns folder, if you don't, create one.
  3. Extract the addon from downloaded zip file to the AddOns folder
  4. Log into the game, and in the character creation screen, you'll find the Addons menu. Enable your addons from there.

Apologies about v10.50

My apologies to JLE and other users I had accidentally left out the map pins from 10.50. Version 10.49 was an attempt to resolve some map location issues I was having using LibMapData but it broke something. I reverted the changes for version 10.50 but left out the data for the new zones.

I hate admitting I made a mistake but I'm happy to do so even if it's not pleasant to admit. I won't hide it and just say the user did it.

Skyshards v10.51

Currently there are no issues displaying Icons on the maps.
There are no missing textures that prevent the map pins from showing.
There are no issues displaying Map Pins for Apocrypha or the Telvanni Peninsula.
There are no separate and different issues between EU and NA for displaying map pins.
This mod does not solve the ZOS addition of their own Skyshards system. You will see ghost pins because of that until you discover the Skyshard.

The only issue I will be looking at over time (2, 4, 6 months or whatever) as I play is the issue ggurman reported. Beause ZOS does not provide a useful API to do what I need for any of the various map pin mods I support. Skyshards, Lorebooks, Quest Map, Destinations, and Scry Spy.

Troubleshooting Suggestions

I am not aware of any helpful and simple troubleshooting videos or guides. I don't need them so I don't Google them to see if someone provides something that is simple and easy to follow. Nor do I wish to make any.

I will suggest the Following:

* Disable or Uninstall if possible OneDrive. It takes over the MyDocuments folder where all the addons and saved variables files are located. Make sure you copy any important files such as family photos to another location should OneDrive contain any.

* Take a screenshot while in game but press the keyboard key multiple times so that you can see the path in the upper right corner. This will indicate where the game looks for your Addons. It will be the same relative path for the Screenshots, AddOns and SavedVariables folders.

The folder for your Addons, SavedVariables, Screenshots would be

C:\Users\[your user name]\Documents\Elder Scrolls Online\live\AddOns
C:\Users\[your user name]\Documents\Elder Scrolls Online\live\SavedVariables
C:\Users\[your user name]\Documents\Elder Scrolls Online\live\Screenshots

* Configure Minion to look in the Addons folder after you locate it using the Screenshot Method.

Examples:
Warning: Spoiler

* If you manually install mods then unzip them in another location before you copy them to your Addons folder. By examining the contents of the archive you can eliminate creating a parent folder or a folder within another folder.

.\Elder Scrolls Online\live\AddOns\SomeMod_v313\SomeMod
.\Elder Scrolls Online\live\AddOns\SomeMod\SomeMod

Neither of the above folders will work.

.\Elder Scrolls Online\live\AddOns\SomeMod

The mods primary folder goes in the AddOns folder.

* Do not keep any zip, 7z, or rar files or backups of files in your Addons folder.

.\Elder Scrolls Online\live\AddOns\SomeMod_v313.zip <<-- used to manually install the mod
.\Elder Scrolls Online\live\AddOns\SomeMod_v312\SomeMod <<-- used as a backup in case the new version doesn't work
.\Elder Scrolls Online\live\AddOns\SomeMod_v313\SomeMod <<-- The folder your archive program made
.\Elder Scrolls Online\live\AddOns\SomeMod <<-- correctly installed mod

While the game will not read the archives, it will read any folder present up to at least 3 levels deep. This could cause multiple files to load and the game will determine which it will use and it may be the wrong version of the file.

@JLE

Oddly enough, when I *entered* the Public Dungeons (both in Telvannis and Apocrypha), the skyshard within each dungeon showed on the map there. And when I enter a Delve, it shows the location on the Delve map.

But none of these skyshards show on the regular maps of the zone - either zone.
I have been dealing with a lot of stress in real life.

That statement right there means that was 100% from ZOS then. Because of the mistake I made with accidentally not including the Skyshard data in 10.50 you were seeing the ZOS icons.

This helps shed some light on the various reports of Ghost icons. Without any data from this mod you saw the Delve icons from ZOS. So there will most likely be areas where you see anomalies. This is from ZOS and as I mentioned because ZOS does not provide their own way to disable their Skyshrad functionality then you will continue to see things like that.

Ghost Icons

I seem to have a problem with this addon and Lorebooks. Icons appear on the compass for skyshards that aren't there. I'll just be walking along and an icon will appear on the compass. Not only is there no unattained skyshard there, there never was. They just appear in random places. If I reload the UI, any nearby will disappear, but the problem will re-occur somewhere else soon after.

Any idea what's causing this?

Edit: I saw your response to my similar post in Lorebooks, so no need to respond here too. Thanks!

Skyshard locations not showing

Ran into this problem just today, the addon stopped showing the uncollected skyshards on the map. Only thing I did was update the addon, and shortly after that it stopped showing the locations on the map.
Anybody have any ideas?
I have already uninstalled and reinstalled the addon.

@Spiritwind

Answered in the second bullet point on the description page, and I know I have mentioned this before but didn't want to find it. The description page should be sufficient.

Why am I seeing random fake skyshard locations on the compass? They don't always show, but sometimes they do, and oddly they are generally in the same spot on the compass. They don't vanish if I turn off "Show unknown skyshards", but they do go away if I uninstall the addon. Gets annoying sometimes.

I prefer account wide settings myself but I dislike having both because ZOS doesn't provide an easy way to do it. I'm not really willing to do both with this mod because of what it does. Sorry but I prefer this remains character specific.

Settings are character specific?

I don't see any option to make the settings for this account wide, and assumed they were, but logged into an alt today and found the overland skyshards on the map were all showing white edges like normal. I had set the overland icon border to green on my main character, but found it still white on every alt.

Is there a way to carry across settings, or do I need to set them individually per character?

There is no calculated and stored or saved value. It does not as you go get something wrong. In fact it is calculating based on the games API or internal code.

Only one skyshard comes from a quest, so if you completed the quest you got a skill point for it. Since it's based on the quest that won't be incorrect in regards to the total. Like I say, only one skill point comes from anything other then the game.

If and when I have time I can look into it but I really have no way to calculate that and naturally the totals are accurate with higher level chars. So not something I will look into any time soon, no eta, but I will keep it in mind.

I also have had several people complain about odd things happening with mods, and for all of them somehow their addons were reverted to previous versions. So if you want to reinstall everything with Minion it is pretty quick. If you manually install then however you do that, you might want to manually delete some things and reinstall. Can't say it will help but it's been common enough lately I thought I'd mention it.
A follow-up to the earlier post:

I have tried deleting and reinstalling SkyShards addon.

I have not adventured anywhere on this specific alt since the previous issue, only used it for daily crafting.

"Urich's Skill Point Finder", when looking at it, comes up with the correct value of 17 skyshards gained by this character (this is borne out by cross-checking against all zones manually).

However, when I hit "K" to bring up the skills screen, it says I have 22/519 skyshards.

Even more weirdly, when I change SkyShards's options and opt for the "Advanced" view on the skill screen, it says "22/519 (2/3)". These two numbers are not even consistent with each other: since, quite obviously, 22 skyshards cannot possibly result in a figure of 2 out of 3 (it would result in 1/3, quite obviously.)

However, 2/3 is consistent with the *correct* number of gained skyshards, namely 17.

So, something is causing the "total number of skyshards gained", as reported by the SkyShards addon, to have been incorrectly incremented by more skyshards than have actually been used (22 instead of 17): the game itself reports the correct calculation (it does not report the full number of gained skyshards at all, only the number towards the next skill point, which is correctly 2 out of 3).

Is there a way to delete all data, re-set and force it to cross-check against actual zone data?

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
[EDIT]
Several other of my characters also have a discrepancy of exactly 5 points between actual skyshards gained, and the total skyshards counter.
I just had a crazy idea which I'm going to try testing some time.
I wonder if the culprit is, in fact, the Folium Discognitum - which, in fact, simply gives exactly two skill points (equivalent to 6 skyshards), but the text in-game often refers to "four or five of those Skyshard things" (when Sheogorath first talks about it) or "half a dozen skyshards" (a couple of sentences later).
So perhaps either the game or the addon is incrementing the total skyshard count by 5 rather than 6, even though what you are actually *getting* is 2 skill points?
(The most annoying thing about wanting to test this, is going to be collecting all those lorebooks to actually reach Mages Guild level 5 again on a new toon... and of course having to go through the actual quests too. Unless someone else out there would like to test, and has a character who has NOT completed the Mages Guild quest line yet.)
Thanks all.
No, there isn't a bug with the number of skyshards in The Reach. There are 6, but one of them is visible on BOTH the above and below ground maps ("The Reach" and "Blackreach: Arkzthand Cavern"), because the delve of Gloomreach connects to Blackreach. So there are 7 skyshard icons across the two maps, but only 6 actual skyshards.
In fact, the developers have been careful to keep a multiple of 3 skyshards in every zone since Morrowind. Before that, they were more careless:
- 1 in the Wailing Prison (as a starter to show how skyshards work)
- 6 + 16 + 16 + 16 + 16 + 16 = 86 in EACH faction's entire set of quest zones, but there are 3 factions, so this gives us a multple of 3.
- 16 in Coldharbour. Oops, we have another extra 1.
- 46 in Cyrodiil - 15 for each faction, plus 1 on top of the mountain (which is in fact in Pact territory but doesn't count as one of the "Cyrodiil Pact Skyshards"). This 1 adds to the spare 1 from Coldharbour and the spare 1 fom the Wailing Prison to make 3, so the entire original game resolves to a total multiple of 3 skyshards, and thus a whole number of skill points.
Then were added, in DLCs:
- 18 in Craglorn - the early DLC that became part of the official main game while it was still a subscription-only model, and is now considered base-game because the game has never been "sold as free-to-play" without it. Still a multiple of 3 - so far, so good.
- 13 (12 plus an odd 1) in Imperial City (DLC, used to cost crowns but now free) - ooh, careless, this unbalanced the available number of skyshards by 1. Maybe somebody forgot the 1 in the Wailing Prison when doing the calculations.
- 17 (15 plus an odd 2) in Orsinium - this corrected the Imperial City mistake, the spare 2 from Orsinium can add to the spare 1 from Imperial City.
- 6 each in Thieves Guild and Dark Brotherhood... back on track again.
And ever since then, each "major" expansion (Morrowind, Summerset, Elsweyr, Greymoor, Blackwood, High Isle) has had 18 skyshards: and each "small" expansion (Clockwork, Murkmire, Dragonhold, Markarth, Deadlands, and presumably the end of the Breton Season - "Firesong" I think?) has had 6.
